Le Manoir De St. Marcel is set-up to cater for families with children. Your children can expect to meet other children. We provide a safe secluded environment for them to play in, & they are made to feel very welcome. Our local restaurant, just 2 minutes' walk from your front door is unusual in that they provided genuine haute cuisine whilst remaining child-friendly.

Stayed as a couple for a week in September 2017. The initial contact and booking was easy and straight forward and there was a nice welcome basket to get us started when we arrived. This property is on a small site with about four other gites, but it has its own entrances and a private area for chilling. There was everything we needed in the gite - it is very well equipped. The site is very remote from any facilities (about 20 minutes from Bergerac) and unfortunately the local restaurant had closed down just before we arrived, which was a shame but we knew this before we travelled. A car is essential and there is plenty of parking space on site. The communal pool is an excellent size but it was a bit on the cold side for us. All in all a very pleasant place to recharge the batteries, and sooooo peaceful and quiet.

Many thanks for your kind words. The pool is heated by solar panels, & as you know, we did not enjoy the normal sunny weather that we expect this September.

And, no doubt, it won’t be our last stay here. A warm welcome from Peter and Nancy makes you feel at home straight away . This was our third stay at Le Manoir de St Marcel and it’s always interesting to meet other guests who have also stayed there multiple times. There’s obviously something about the place. La Porcherie comes with everything you need including a welcome pack, which can be useful if you haven’t made a quick stop at the shops on your way. The large lounge/dining room is a perfect retreat if the sun gets too hot as it’s very easy to keep the room cool by closing the curtains. The kitchen is equipped with all the cutlery and crockery you need and, handily, has a dishwasher. The washing machine is an added bonus. The choice of two terraces means you can enjoy as much of the sunshine and fresh air as you want with the lower one making an ideal spot to enjoy fresh croissant for breakfast as the sun starts to warm up. Le Manoir is a great base for exploring Dordogne with all its chateaux and vineyards and is within easy driving distance of local amenities and airports. Free wifi, swimming pool, games barn, Peters infamous BBQ and a local marche nocturne. What more do you need?

As pungent wood smoke curled across the pretty hillside above the mellow stone village of St Marcel, Peter, the charming owner, welcomed us into the warmth of La Porcherie on a cold damp February afternoon. The flavours of rustic life captured in the exposed stonework, wood and tile floors and beams wrapped us in history without the hardships. The electric heating, efficient hot water system, easy to use wood stove, dishwasher and range of English TV channels were all most welcome. Indoors and out the rural tranquility was broken only by the solemn tolling of the church bell and trilling birdsong. On a summer day we would use of the barbecue, private courtyard garden, pool and grounds, but in winter the blazing woodburner and generous log supply completed a delightful fortnight.

We booked for two weeks with our cat and stayed three!! Peter and Nancy are charming and helpful hosts and La Porcherie is a lovely property. Quiet with a Sun trap courtyard where we had wonderful barbecues. The area is stunning and we have made an offer on a house nearby! Cat was furious when we dragged her away. Want to be there again right now. Thank you Peter and Nancy for your amazing hosting.

we had a wonderful family holiday at la manoir. the accommodation was clean, well presented and suitably stocked with all mod cons and utensils needed for a relaxing stay. peter and nancy are wonderful hosts and i cant thank them highly enough. the facilities including the pool and play barns were ideal for entertaining our 14 month old even when the weather was not at its best. la manoir is ideally placed to explore the dordogne and the local villages and we had a fabulous holiday

We stayed at 'La Porcherie' in August 2013 and had the most relaxing holiday we have ever had! The four gites surround a beautiful Manor House (Le Manoir) and there are fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. The scenery is stunning when you arrive and you grow to love it over your stay - we really didn't want to leave and the children were asking why we had to go home!! The facilities are fantastic with a large swimming pool and games barn to keep everyone entertained and there are fields and woodland to explore which make you appreciate the wide-open peaceful space even more. The owners Peter and Nancy are the perfect hosts being on hand to help out with advice, recommendations for local attractions and friendly chats. They order what you want from the local bakery which is delivered every morning so you don't even have to leave the grounds to get your fresh croissants, pain au chocolate or baguettes! They also do a barbecue for all the guests on a Sunday to bring everyone together and there were themed tractor rides in to the woods each Friday for the children. We stayed with our seven year old and our thirteen year old daughters and the accommodation was perfect, there was plenty of room for everyone to have space and relax; two large bedrooms, a big lounge, kitchen diner, large bathroom, patio with chairs, table and barbecue and also a private garden with washing line (we didn't even have to do the washing when home!). The fact that there is free wi-fi and British TV keeps the kids happy when they are tired after exploring or canoeing down the Dordogne river which was a fantastic experience we will never forget! If you want to get away from everything and explore a beautiful area this is the place for you!

Having stayed in Le Pigeonnier last year we decided to treat ourselves and stay in La Porcherie this year even though there were only two of us. This property is extremely spacious and, of course, benefits from all the amenities afforded to all the properties at Le Manoir. Free wifi, large swimming pool, games room etc. Peter and Nancy were, as ever, perfect hosts. Ensuring that you have everything you need including ordering fresh croissants and bread from the local bakers to be delivered every morning. La Porcherie has a very large lounge/dining room as well as a breakfast table in the kitchen giving you plenty of room to spread out and feel comfortable. The shower in the seperate shower room is perfect for waking you up in the morning or for refreshing yourself if you've been sunbathing on the secluded upper terrace. Something which we did frequently. Fully equipped with everything you need, including enough cutlery and crockery to cater for everybody staying in the surrounding gites, it also has the essentials of a dishwasher and washing machine. Would we stay here again? Without a doubt. La Porcherie is a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside whilst having enough room to make yourself feel comfortably at home when you return.

About the neighborhood
There is just so much to do in summer, it often overwhelms our guests, & they unwind by the swimming pool! Your first Sunday will often be spent visiting the market at ISSIGEAC, a medieval bastide town which is beautiful in its own right, but with the added attraction of a vibrant Sunday Market. The kids will love Castelnaud, perched high over the River Dordogne: It offers the them a medieval war museum. Nearby is my favourite Chateau; Chateau Milandes; The home of Josephine Baker, an American Cabaret artist who adopted a child from each continent. This is where they lived, & the chateau is a museum about her. There is so much that you will not want to miss! – Where to stop! You must visit Domme, & Sarlat. Finally, I nearly forgot! – If you are here in July & August the Marche Nocturnes...
Getting around
To get here by air Bergerac Airport is our closest airport. Brive is also only an hour away. Bordeaux is 2 hours drive. By train: Bergerac is the closest station with car hire available. By car: We are about 8 1/2 hours from Calais. 6 1/2 from St. Malo. A car is essential once here.
