About the neighborhood
The Chateau des Milandes overlooks the Dordogne river and was home to Josephine Baker. She awed Paris with her flamboyant revues in the first half of the twentieth century and later moved to Les Milandes where she famously adopted twelve children known as the 'Rainbow Tribe'. The Chateau now features an exhibition to her extraordinary life as well as parkland and formal French gardens. Well worth a visit, there are also falconry displays and a small restaurant. Spend a day meandering down the river passing magnificent medieval castles, old stone bridges and breathtaking scenery - it's really lovely and you can enjoy a picnic on its banks. You can also partake in a variety of outdoor activities including ballooning and flying, canoeing, caves, cycling, fishing, golf, markets, riding, tennis and vineyards.
How to get there
- With several Low Cost airlines flying to Bergerac, you can be sitting on the terrace enjoying a sun-downer with the minimum of fuss - the houses are just under an hour away from the airport through beautiful scenery following the river. - Easy low cost flights through Flybe from many UK airports such as Exeter, Birmingham, Gatwick, Southampton and Edinbugh. -Ryanair from East Midlands, Liverpool and Stanstead. -Fly with Easyjet from Bristol and enjoy a night in Bordeaux on the way. - Alternatively, why not enjoy one of the many scenic routes from the Channel Ports and ease into the holiday by staying in a romantic hotel or auberge on the way down. A night on the ferry with Brittany Ferries is also an option giving you a full day on the way down. - Please refer to our webite for a ful...
