We reserved a two-night stay at Popfosters Barn for my wife, my son and I, as we love the Cotswolds, but on our many previous visits over the years had always stayed in hotels. We thought that it would be a lovely change to hire a cottage - and we were certainly not disappointed !
On arriving at the main house (Popfosters), you simply drive down to the bottom of their gravel drive, and park at the Barn, situated at the end. We found the key in the door, let ourselves in and were in the kitchen / living room. The living room has a sofa, two comfortable armchairs, smart-tv, various cabinets and coffee tables. The kitchen has everything you may need (fridge with ice compartment, cooker, dish-washer, pots, pans, cutlery, crockery and glassware). Our host, Lisa, had left a welcome pack of Waitrose cake, croissants, milk, eggs, ground coffee etc and shortly after arrival she knocked at the door to check that we had settled in and gave us a really lovely welcome. She mentioned that 'Doug' may pop around (Doug being their absolutely adorable terrier - who did indeed call in to see us a little later - and developed a penchant for custard-cream biscuits !).
Through a door on the ground-floor, you find a room with another sofa, small dining table and mezzanine double bed, accessed by wooden steps.
Upstairs is the master bedroom and shower room / WC. The beds were supremely comfortable, with lovely views over the gardens.
Each room is thoughtfully and tastefully furnished with good lighting, local pictures on the wall and nice floor coverings. Attention to detail is everywhere, from ample scatter-cushions, fleece throws, provision of board-games, a DVD library, WIFI, nice garden furniture, barbeque, local maps and guide-books etc.
Housekeeping and cleanliness is immaculate throughout. A wonderful stay in very comfortable accommodation in the heart of the Cotswolds !
