fantastic stay
Excellent location, cabins lovely but in need off some TLC, heating not working hence a few convector heaters dotted about, once the fire is on nice and toasty especially in the master where the chimney runs through, the owner really should supply unlimited timber for the colder weather instead of just a starter pack, spent over £60 on logs to keep the place warm as we didn't have enough heaters for everywhere, neighbour in the horse box was so kind to gift us some timber x. Never received a gift pack of goodies as I've read in other reviews ☹️ OVEN is a nightmare to work even when using the instruction manual, just keep pressing buttons until you get lucky🤣. Loved my visit especially the wildlife, lots of birds and cheeky wee great tits feed of your hands 💗

A lodge with incredible potential overlooking the Caledonian Canal
This wood-built holiday let overlooks the Caledonian Canal and its terrace has views towards Ben Nevis. We enjoyed our holiday in the region and the lodge proved a good base for exploring the surrounding area. We were thrilled to receive a lovely selection of Scottish snacks and wine upon arrival. Yet for the rental price being charged for this place I would have expected better maintenance of the property. A handful of issues need to be addressed. We left detailed feedback in the hope that they can be addressed as this place really does have the potential to be incredible. Some of the issues - such as a non-functional bedroom lamp, all but one light out in the bathroom of the back bedroom plus a loose tap fitting in the front bedroom - should be quick and easy to fix. Movement of the wood railing upon on the balcony (I would not lean on it) and loose, rotten decking down on the terrace made negative early impressions and really should be addressed with urgency. The back bedroom had no blind on the rear window and the roller blind in the front bedroom did not reach to the bottom of the window. Improved maintenance would help transform this lodge. If they were fixed I would have no hesitation in recommending this place.

Comfy large dog friendly lodge on the water's edge
Comfy lodge with lots of facilities - including lots of hot water, comfy beds and large, fluffy towels. Bottle of wine and snacks on our arrival which was a nice touch. Large area for parking. Great views across the water. Fairly close to Fort William where there are lots of places to visit, so made a good base. You drive past a commercial business (lorries) down the lane to get to the lodge and then past approx. 6 caravans which are next to the lodge, which was a shame. Decking needs updating. Each bedroom downstairs has one single bed (and one pull-out bed which would be a squeeze if used as not large rooms, leaving no floor space) and you could not push together to make doubles as at different heights.

A breath of fresh air
Our ski holiday to France was cancelled due to current climate. Decided to try out Scotland. Have been many times walked Great Glen. but never to ski. Found this amazing lodge. We actually booked it the day we were leaving. Ian was fantastic and could not do enough to make sure we were welcomed. The lodge has everything and more. Very comfortable with log burner. Views and walks breathtaking. It’s in a little corner and found the caravan residents very pleasant so if your looking for a special place this is awesome. Skiing was great up on the Nevis range. Have no doubt I will return soon.

Gairlochy Bay lodge
Fantastic holiday!!!! After reading the previous reviews we were a bit apprehensive about going away and spending our Christmas at Gairlochy Bay with the family but we were definitely in no way disappointed!!!! Some have complained about fence and caravans but all we can say is if your looking at that your looking at the wrong things the scenery is beautiful, mountains covered in snow, boats sailing in to the small marina and not to mention the geese and wildlife surrounding you. The log cabin is absolutely beautiful, with a fully equipped kitchen, open log fire, comfy sofas and owners even left us a beautiful real Christmas tree for us to decorate!!!! Great size Bedrooms with comfy large beds with en-suite bathrooms all clean and fresh!! The cabin had that lovely log cabin feel at that time of year that we hoped for so warm and cosy and we had a totally relaxed, enjoyable family Christmas!! So if you are looking for a quiet get away with beautiful scenery in a log cabin and Fort William about 15 mins away we would highly recommend this lodge100% and we would definitely give 5 stars!!! We will be returning very soon!! Thank you very much Iain and Anita for making our Christmas.

Not what we expected
Unfortunately, we had a bad start here, the paperwork we received from the booking company said to contact the owner before arrival to ensure keys would be available. We spent three days trying to contact the owner before setting off (morning, lunch and evening) with no result! We contacted the booking company a number of times to get alternative numbers which they were reluctant to give, and they didn’t work either. We tried to cancel the holiday as we had a long way to travel and didn’t want to arrive and no keys available. This created a stressful unknown start to the holiday that we hadn’t banked on, hoping for a stress-free break. We found the lodge easily and the view and setting are immediately amazing, and it is this reason that improves the score from what would otherwise be a 1 out of 5. From the lodge you can see mountains in the distance including Ben Nevis, the canal almost wraps round the house with the occasional boat passing and the view forwards is simply wonderful. The view that is less evident from the brochure although is listed in other reviews is that to one side of the lodge is a scrap yard for trucks, and to the other a number of mobile homes. That being said with the curtains closed on one side of the property its only when you go out that you notice these distractions and realise it’s not the solitary place that some of the photos suggest. The track to the lodge has very large speed bumps and potholes, our car did bottom out on these and we noticed other residents of the area having similar problems, a vehicle with larger ground clearance sound be ok. On arrival although the tap water is brown and from a spring which we didn’t mind, its not until you read through the file in the property that it states the water must be boiled. Had we known this prior to arrival we could have brought water with us for the first night as the younger members of our party didn’t want tea, coffee or hot drinks. The remaining days we managed to put a plan together but the first night I would recommend you arrive with bottled water. After the initial wow of the property which could be simply stunning, looking round you notice that outside looks like a building yard with bags of cement, large builders’ bags of gravel, railway sleepers laid about to make a fence. The property is completely unloved, sofas stacked up on chip board, the fence in front of the property rotting and falling down, water coming into the kitchen, two main blinds missing from the lounge/ dining area, a blind missing from bedroom 3, the blind in the main bedroom installed away from the wall so it is not effective, broken shower door, water doesn’t drain away from the shower. No point trying to inform the owner as we had no luck, and many of these things have been reviewed in the past and are still issues now. The property was generally clean but there were a few bags of rubbish outside the property left from the last guests, the wood burner was full of ash, although once we had emptied it and cleaned up it was nice to see it lit and adding ambience to the room after a long journey. All in all, it wasn’t the experience we had expected, but a real shame as a little bit of effort could make this place simply amazing!

Great Holiday destination
We had a lovely couple of weeks staying at Gairlochy Bay Lodge. The cottage was really cosy and supplied us with everything that we needed. The views are really great and the area is very quiet. Good accesibility to surrounding areas including Fort William and Ben Nevis. Would recommend.

Amazing location but some issues
No curtain in bedroom (was told it was being mended, not much help to us), rave type music from caravan next door (we had to play white noise to both sleep and eat our meals), no bedding for 7th person, not enough bowls - told the owner on the 2nd Tues of our fortnight and he did nothing because he was off on his own holiday... the house was very clean :) An expensive holiday house and I would have expected better... However we had an amazing holiday, the location on the edge of the loch was superb :)

In response, the blind had been damaged and removed for repair. This blind cost several hundred pounds and are not off the shelve but will be back in place as soon as repaired.I did discuss this with the holiday tenant. I received a message about the loud music on the way to Glasgow airport. The issue was dealt with immediatly and stopped by message to a third party. This was a one off that has never happened before and i will ensure it will never happen again.Nothing was mentioned to me about bedding or a bowel short but thank you for bringinging it to my attention and i will correct this with the cleaner. I want everbody who stay at Gairlochy Bay to enjoy there stay and enjoy the location and log house.

Spacious house but needs some attention
We really enjoyed our week in Gairlochy bay cottage. Its a nice spacious house, full of light at a Nice location. The two bedrooms upstairs are lovely with each their own bathroom. However, we thought that the house needs some attention at some points. Comparing to other houses we’ve rented in Scotland this summer, this one was by far the most expensive one. But to be honest, some points were a bit disappointing. The kitchen for example really needs some attention, like the door of the oven that doesnt close well, a cupboard door that my husbamd fixed himself before it really cake down, frying pans that should be replaced (that goes as well for the table and chairs on the porch, which are old and rusty and not very appealing to sit on) and the curtain in one of the bedrooms downstairs that was broken and couldnt be closed. And in spite of the description, I would not recommend this house for groups of 8. Two people would have to sleep on matrasses on the floor and the dining table only has 6 chairs. Like I said, it’s a really nice house, but it could be a great one if a few things would be fixed (also the showers - Nice bathrooms but not always good water pressure for a good shower).

In response to your comments I am always glad when a holidaymaker enjoys their stay at Gairlochy Bay. It is a unique product in the area and we try to keep it to a high standard. Thank you also for pointing out one or two issues. The garden furniture has been replaced with new. I personally put the glass back in the oven door and relocated the cleaning clips that hold it. The extra single beds in the downstairs bedrooms have a separate fold up spring loaded metal base that makes up in to the extra bed to the same level as the single bed already there. I will personally check the kitchen utensils and also replace the frying pan or anything else I feels needs replaced. To make a sitting for 8 people around the table the two leather chairs make up the full compliment. Thank you again for bringing these to my attention.

Gairlochy Lodge
Beautiful lodge house with stunning views. Warm and cosy and very well equipped. Only ‘minor’ issue would be the slippery leather sofas which were not overly comfortable. We all agreed that if these were deep fabric settees you could simply sink into, we would probably have been inclined never to leave the cabin as it was so relaxing and peaceful! But that is just me being overly pedantic...! Overall, top marks and highly recommended
