Aviemore Glenlivet Lodge is our highland holiday home in the heart of the Cairngorms. Aviemore is a great centre for all things outdoor and family. During the winter months there is everything Cairngorm Mountain has to offer. During the summer there is an abundance of outdoor activities. Please note: Building work has started on the creation of a new cottage hospital in the area behind our house, on the other side of the railway line. The construction work started in August 2019 and completion date is unclear. There is the potential for noise from the building site - apologies. Please note: Building work has started on the creation of a new cottage hospital in the area behind our house, on the other side of the railway line. The construction work started in August 2019 and completion date is unclear. There is the potential for noise from the building site - apologies. Our bungalow is all on one level. 2 small steps from outside. In the entrance vestibule there is a cupboard to store coats and shoes (please leave dirty shoes at the door!). The cupboard is also where we store Dyson and drying horse, iron and ironing board. From the entrance vestibule you enter the living room with dining area to the rear. The living room contains a sofa and 2 chairs, the dining table can seat up to 8 when extended, but there are 6 chairs. A high chair is stored in the master bedroom cupboard. From the living room you enter a small hall with access to the 2 twin rooms (we call them the teal room and the purple room) and the shared bathroom which was recently renovated with fabulous tiles and light-up mirror. The bathroom has a full size bath and electric shower. The 2 bedrooms have 2 single beds with fresh bedding, wardrobe with hanging space and drawer units. The teal room looks out towards the mountains and has a small television for watching DVDs - no signal to watch TV. The purple room looks out to the side of the house/garden, has a small TV and PS2 player again to watch DVDs or play the small supply of games (no tv signal). From the living room you enter the good sized, extremely well equipped kitchen. It has washing machine, fridge & freezer, microwave, induction hob, double oven, Tassimo coffee machine, toaster, kettle etc. A good supply of crockery and cutlery including wine and champagne glasses. The freezer usually contains a bag of ice (for those essential gin n tonics!). You'll also find in the cupboards a slow cooker, hand blender, baking equipment . . . and more. From the kitchen you enter the sun room, a small seating area which is cosy in the winter and bright and airy in the summer. An excellent place to relax with a book, or for the kids to watch a DVD. From the sun room you enter the master suite with super king size bed (6' wide), dressing table, drawer unit and wardrobe. There's a cupboard with plenty of hanging space (and travel cot & high chair). The ensuite has a walk in shower with excellent water pressure. The large window in the bedroom looks onto the deck and woods beyond - not to mention the Strathspey Steam Train! Access to the garden/patio area is from the parking area as well as the sun room and through french doors in the master suite. The garden is fully enclosed by high fencing and next door's garage. Please note there’s no grass so not suitable for kids’ games (but no shortage of play space in Aviemore!). The garden is a patio area and deck area that surrounds 2 sides of the house, facing south and west - so gets the best sun all day long (yes, Scotland does occasionally see the sun!). There is plenty of seating, BBQ, collapsible clothes airer (in the shed) and a garden shed that contains cushions for seats, a tumble dryer and hanging space for wet clothes, a boot warmer for drying wet ski/walking boots and BBQ utensils etc. There is parking for easily 2 cars at the side of the house. Please note the layout of the house means the master suite is accessed by going through the kitchen and sun room, so not close to the twin rooms - worth bearing in mind if you have little kids.

Interaction with guests: We don't live locally but have contacts who live in the local area if there are any difficulties, and we are always on the end of the phone. If we need to visit then we can be there within a few hours. But after 6 years of owning Glenlivet, we've never had a problem. Happy to make suggestions for things to do, places to visit - just ask!

Beautiful property and location
Fabulous few days spent at Glenlivet Lodge. The kitchen is well stocked with all the utensils and pans you might need and the place is like a tardis, it’s way bigger than it looks in the photos! Outside, the patio and decking provided a lovely sun trap area to relax in after a days sightseeing and the steam train passing by was an added bonus. For those with dogs, a short walk from the property takes you a walk that follows the river across the fields towards town. All told it was an amazing place to stay and I hope to return one day.

Lovely, warm, welcoming house
A lovely house, close to the centre of Aviemore, with everything a family needs to enjoy a holiday. The website says there is room for 2 cars in the driveway, but I promise you 2 cars and a van with bikes parked easily. Alan, the owner, is easily contacted if there are any issues (the only one I had was that his email with the keypad details went into my spam) There are wonderful walks and cycle paths close by - we did the landrover tour at Rothiemurchus - expensive but so worth it, the Highland Folk Museum and found the bothy bakery at Grantown only to find it was closed on a Tuesday. Next time KJ. All in all, a great week in a lovely house.

Fabulous cottage
We have just returned from a wonderful break in Aviemore. Glenlivet Lodge was a fabulous base and had everything we needed. Can't praise the house highly enough. Many thanks to Alan and Sandra for all the thought they have put into making a stay in Glenlivet Lodge memorable. Ours certainly was.

Great digs for a weekend of climbing.
Stayed here with 4 other mates for a weekend climbing in the Cairngorms. Ideal accommodation comfortable for all, especially me who got the master ensuite! Had cracking weather for a couple of the days so was a able to utilise the bbq facilities. Nice quiet accommodation a short and pleasant walk from train station/main street. Highly recommended and would stay again. Ideal for family, couple or small groups.

Comfortable and cosy
Perfect location, 10 minute walk to the village centre, or 10 minute drive to the mountain. Great for families, plenty of board games, dvd's and books to entertain. Kitchen facilities excellent and clean. Bedrooms and bathrooms very clean and.comfortable. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in maintaining this cosy but spacious holiday cottage.

Comfortable stay
Had a great long weekend. The house was well equipped and very comfortable. We were two couples so it was great to each have bathroom facilities. The amazing weather made it extra special - so much to see and do, we are already talking about next year's visit.

About the neighborhood
We are a 5-10 minute walk from Aviemore village centre, so going out for coffee or dinner and a drink means leaving the car at home. Tesco, Aldi, Home Bargains and The Co-op shops are within walking distance too. Our personal favourites are The Skiing Doo Restaurant, Cairngorm Hotel Restaurant, Smiffy's, Coffee Corner cafe and Coffee Pot cafe. There's a huge amount to do in the local area so your whole stay can be centred on Aviemore. But it is a great hub for visiting other places including Inverness, Kingussie, Carrbridge (where you'll find the Landmark outdoor centre which kids love!) and Cairngorm mountain, going up the fenicular railway and having a snack in the Ptarmigan restaurant with its spectacular views.
Getting around
We're a short pleasant walk or cycle to the village, so for shops, restaurants, coffees & bars you can leave the car at home. The local bus service stops right outside the house twice per hour, going to and from Cairngorm Mountain. Simply stick out your hand to stop the bus! Timetable in our guest information folder. The train station has a regular service between the south and Inverness. There are buses north and south if you fancy heading up to Inverness. Local taxis are available if a walk after a lovely meal is just too much!
