This two bedroom apartment is a truly stylish and spacious home-from-home on the first floor of this charming development of luxury apartments. Whilst perfectly situated for exploring the vibrant city centre, it offers a haven of tranquillity as it sits in a peaceful, private landscaped setting. The apartment epitomises what funky, spacious open plan living is all about: on the ground floor there is a stunning lounge/dining room leading to a large kitchen area, and a separate stylish shower-room and luxurious twin bedroom. A staircase leads to the upper mezzanine suite which consists of a fresh and modern bathroom and open plan bedroom. While the building retains many original features which makes it of interest to history buffs, the Old Schoolhouse Duplex apartment itself is achingly cool with its split level interior and contemporary and stylish furnishings. The windows, which are almost floor to ceiling height, means that the apartment is flooded with natural light. The furniture and furnishings have been carefully selected by an award winning interior designer (including the award for the most luxurious holiday rentals in Edinburgh in the Lux International Awards 2016). The contemporary palette, with coloured accents, uses luxurious fabrics which will cocoon and comfort you during your stay. The upstairs mezzanine bedroom has a plush king size bed, plentiful wardrobe storage, private bathroom (with over bath shower) and funky furnishings. The twin bedroom downstairs is located off the hall and has a shower room right opposite. This room, which also has plentiful wardrobe storage, again uses the finest of fabrics and designer wallpaper to make you feel as if you are staying in a 5 star hotel. In both bedrooms, we use only the finest Egyptian cotton bed linen; quality sprung mattresses with oh-so comfy mattress toppers; fluffy white bath towels and – in the bathrooms – you will find quality Scottish made toiletries. Better than a hotel, however, the Old Schoolhouse Duplex gives you the benefit of flexibility and independence. In the evening, whilst Edinburgh is abuzz with fabulous bars and restaurants, nightlife and live music venues, you may well be tempted to opt for a cosy night in, in front of the feature fire, put on the mood lighting and curl up on the plentiful comfortable seating, after making a romantic or sociable meal in the well equipped kitchen. In house entertainment includes board games, a Bluetooth speaker and a large screen TV with free Netflix. The apartment is particularly suited to couples, a family or friends who enjoy a city break, in the buzz of the city, but who appreciate a tranquil haven to retreat to at the end of an exciting day of shopping or exploring. The Duplex apartment sits within communal gardens in a building with secure free parking access (with an automatic fob operated gate) and also benefits from free wifi and Netflix. Attractions which are only minutes walk away include the Palace of Holyroodhouse where Her Majesty the Queen often visits with other Royal Family members; the Scottish Parliament building; Dynamic Earth; the many delights of the Royal Mile which leads up to the Castle, the bustling Grassmarket square and a large number of Edinburgh Festival venues. It’s also just a short stroll from Holyrood Park and the beautiful viewpoint of Arthur’s Seat, recently voted by Lonely Planet as one of the world’s best City Hikes. Despite being in a former school, there’s nothing ‘uniform’ about this apartment which has been transformed into one of the best self-catering properties Edinburgh has to offer. About the neighborhood
The Old Schoolhouse Duplex is perfectly situated to the south of the city centre. There is a huge choice of restaurants and bars just minutes from your door but the apartment itself is peacefully located behind the old school gates!
Getting around
Travel information Arriving by car: If you are driving, we recommend entering central Edinburgh using the A7 and follow signs for Old Town. You will pass the Royal Commonwealth Swimming Pool on your right hand side and continue straight onto The Pleasance. Turn left in to West Richmond Street and then Davie Street is the second road on your left. Arriving by air: After arriving at Edinburgh airport, take a taxi directly to the apartment, asking the driver to go to 'Davie Street, Newington' or you can take the airport ‘Airlink’ bus or tram into town and then take a taxi. If you choose to take a taxi all the way from the airport, the ride takes from 25 to 35 minutes depending on the time of day and will cost approximately £22-£25.
