What a place to stay! So spacious with stunning riverside views. Everything we needed and more. Spotlessly clean and lovely bedding, furniture etc. Kircudbright is a special town, loved the art history, friendly people, shops, museums etc. Great local towns, fantastic beaches, and forests. We would love to return for another holiday.

Our second time returning to the Boathouse and again, it did not disappoint. Great location, clean with plenty of space for our party of 6 adults and a toddler. Well stocked with plates, cutlery and glasses etc. We even managed two barbecues using what appeared to be a new barbecue. All in all, no complaints.we all enjoyed this location so much that we are in the process of booking this house again next summer. Please could I ask for good weather also.

A very last minute booking - everything was perfect, Very clean and very well equipped for eating in and catering for a couple of families. Location excellent for walking to restaurants, general walking around the town and for walks, cycling and swimming. Plenty of guide books sitting in the house. Best part was sitting on the balcony in the evening whether the tide was in/out or coming in and out. So so peaceful. Convenience shops very close. If you arrive empty handed there is every shop available to stock up. Owner also very helpful.

Ideally situated for all local shops, restaurants and attractions, with enviable views of the river Dee. Be careful of sudden drop at entrance door on the street. Ramp down has a fair gradient. Quiet secluded rear courtyard. We loved watching the ever changing river from the patio. Peace and quiet only disturbed by birdsong and the tinkling of ropes against the masts of the boats in the marina. Could never tire of that view. Kitchen has all you need but a 4 slice toaster would be better for those in larger groups. Spacious dining table and comfy lounge with wall mounted TV. DVD's, books, jigsaws and games available.Bedrooms all in a row with river views. All really need blackout curtains, particularly for lighter months. The middle is the largest and would benefit from a King or Super King sized bed. Plenty of room and storage space.The bathrooms are well equipped and the showers are hot and powerful. The annexe, over the slipway is good and has separate bathroom and entrance, if desired. It does have a musty smell, possibly from lack of regular use. The slipway could do with a good clear out. The outside lights and those down the path, would benefit from being controlled by a sensor, so as not to waste electricity. As a suggestion; a small welcome pack would be a nice touch for arriving guests and liquid soaps in the bathrooms. We had a lovely stay in this beautiful part of Scotland and enjoyed the Tardis like Boathouse. A splash of colour and a few minor tweaks, would elevate this accommodation to the next level.I

BBQ unusable attached picture below , place has lovely view but very well used needs updating, mattress very hard , needs money spent on it things really starting to go , sad as it could be great , but will use somewhere else to stay next year love the area and will be back to the area in 5 weeks

Our 2nd time for a family holiday in the wonderful Boathouse in Kircudbright - this time with a 4 1/2 year who called it "the best holiday home in the whole wide world" and she is right for all of our 3 generations - 5 Adults +1 child. Centrally located, clean, modern, warm and with 3 bathrooms just a cracking place to sit and rest watching the birds and boats on River Dee or as a base for exploring Dumfries and Galloway . People are very friendly and cafes and restaurants everywhere plus galleries and museums. Castle Bistro only 100 metres away was our favourite. Shona the owner is great at communication and giving tips on what to do - thank you.We'll be back I am sure.

What a great holiday house, perfect location and deceptively large. We are just back from this fabulous home from home. It feels like we were on a ship for 5 days, boats passing the window, the patio doors leading to a sun trap private patio literally on the river. Luxurious duvets, great beds, very private and no struggle on street parking. Delights of Kirkcudbright within 2 minute walk. Kitchen has every conceivable pot, cup plate and gadget. Great spaces, so no need to be on top of one another. Choice of 2 shower rooms and a full bathroom. It's down a private lane from the street, but easy enough for our 92 year old aunt to wander up and down. Auntie Anne enjoyed the ramped entrance and accessible shower room. We have stayed in a number of holiday homes in Kirkcudbright over the years, this is the best one by a country mile. Shona is a superb host, excellent communication and was able to support slight tweaks to our schedule. Book it, you won't be sorry!

The Boathouse is in a great location, close to shops and all Kirkcudbright has to offer but hidden away down it’s own wee lane, overlooking the river. Perfectly private and quiet. The balcony was a great spot to enjoy a coffee while watching life on the river, and dog safe too. The Boathouse was really well equipped with everything required, including lots of board games and books to while away a couple of rainy hours. Definitely somewhere to return too. We loved it.

3 of us and a dog spent a week at this property. The place is spacious and the views of the estuary are stunning with a large outside private area to sit out in. It is well equipped and having 3 bathrooms was an added bonus. It is within a few minutes walk of the local shops cafes pubs and other amenities and is within easy reach of fabulous beaches and beautiful countryside. Wifi and phone signals are good. Shona the host is responsive to messages but is unintrusive. If you want a break away from it all I would highly recommend The Boathouse as the place for you

Good accommodation - made very special by the patio/seating area overlooking the river. Very private accommod. with an impressive air source heat pump. Nice quality plates etc in the kitchen. We had good communication with Shona, including very helpful tips, to which we can add the first rate fish shop & occasional fish van & the pies available at Paul Jones bakery (although the bread is basic & dull white). The art gallery is impressive. We walked & cycled a lot around the area & found the lack of crowds so refreshing : recommend the Carrick & Brighouse beaches & coast, the excellent cafe in Gatehouse & the Cardoness estate wood walks & beach beyond that town (£4 parking charge). The only reasons for not giving 5 stars is that the septic tank covers in the courtyard leaked significant sewer smells which prevented us from using the seating area there. This would be easily remediable with specific drain covers which can deal with this. We were also rather attractive to wasps flying in, only discovering a nest under the gutter later in our stay ! Thanks Shona for an otherwise v.enjoyable stay.
