The spacious and well-equipped kitchen has a full oven and microwave, large fridge-freezer and washing machine/drier. The courtyard, accessed via the lounge patio doors and the main door is a sun-trap; chairs, sunshade and a table are there for guests to use. The lounge has a gas fire, but the whole property, including the adjoining Old Schoolhouse, which belongs to the owners, has oil central heating. Whether you are wanting to go walking, cycling, fishing(we have trout fishing rights in the Yarrow Water!), sailing, kayaking or would simply prefer to relax and soak up the beautiful scenery, the Yarrow and Ettrick valleys have much to offer. Edinburgh is just over an hour's drive away, while each of the Borders towns is fiercely proud of its heritage, from the Common Ridings which take place every year from May to July, to the textile/cashmere mills, which brought wealth in the past. The abbeys of Melrose and Jedburgh are especially imposing, while Dryburgh's setting is simply stunning. There are historic houses to visit, notably Bowhill and Abbotsford, both within 15 minutes' drive. St Mary's Loch is just 20 minutes away, beyond the historic (and welcoming) Gordon Arms, which serves bar food. Nearest shops are in Selkirk(5 miles) and there is a good range also of cafes and restaurants.More

About the neighborhood
There are good local shops in Selkirk and larger supermarkets(24hr Tesco, Asda & Aldi) in Galashiels(10 miles). In Selkirk there is also a good range of cafes and restaurants. Bowhill House and Tearoom are open from Easter to September. The Waterwheel at Philiphaugh is open all year for light refreshments and lunches. The Gordon Inn at Yarrow Feus and the Cross Keys at Ettrickbridge serve pub food. There are plenty of tearooms and restaurants/pubs in Melrose. The Border Abbeys towns,( Jedburgh, Dryburgh, Kelso, Melrose) are all well worth a visit and have cafes/pubs/restaurants at close range. Lochcarron(Selkirk) and various woollen/cashmere businesses in Hawick offer visits. Selkirk and Ashkirk(The Woll) both have golf courses. The Woll also has a bar/restaurant. There are swimming, gym and tennis facilities in Selkirk.
Getting around
We are not on a transport network, so having a car is necessary. The nearest buses, with links to Galashiels, Edinburgh, Melrose, Hawick and Carlisle, are 5 miles away. The nearest railway station is in Tweedbank or Galashiels, roughly 10 miles from Yarrowford. There are good bus links from Galashiels to other Border towns and also to Berwick upon Tweed. The Borders Railway, opened in 2015, runs a half-hourly service to Edinburgh(hourly on Sundays).
