We were going to start this review by saying "Please don't book Crosple Cottage" as you will fall in love with the place and won't want anyone else to stay there, just in case you cannot get booked for your next visit! We have now stayed at the cottage on at least 8 occasions and feel "we are home" when at Crosple.
The cottage is located close to Loch Melfort and offers 360-degree stunning panoramic views of the loch and the surrounding area. Nothing beats sitting out at the rear of the cottage, having your first coffee of the day, and gazing down the Loch, lost in your own wee world. It gets even better at sunset with the last of the day's rays hitting the hills opposite the Loch, just as you are having your evening meal, we sometimes argue over the "best seat"! The surrounding area has a lot to offer and Argyllshire is one of the most stunning parts of Scotland. Oban is just 17 miles away and is the gateway to Mull and various other islands. Some of the close-by islands can even be reached within minutes using the smaller ferries. Oban also offers good shopping, eating, and drinking, particularly if you like a wee malt or two - it even has its own distillery! Other areas to visit north of Melfort are the Slate islands which can be accessed via the Atlantic Bridge (yes a real bridge over the Atlantic) and small ferries. South of Loch Melfort you will find the mysterious Kilmartin Glen with its standing stones, forts, and cairns, well worth a visit. Crinan Canal is not too far from Kilmartin and local shops can be found in Lochgilphead (1/2 hour journey). As I said above we have stayed at Crosple 8 times now and find somewhere new to visit, or re-visit, every year. If you are into photography make sure you bring along spare memory cards and batteries!
The cottage has everything you need for a short or longer break and it always looks "just like new" when you arrive. All amenities are modern and there is even a log burning fire for those chillier evenings. The cottage also has Wifi and a decent mobile connection to the outside world, for those of you who cannot totally escape, but it does let you upload your photographs of the stunning scenery so you can reminisce about your time at Crosple.
Rory and Jenny are fantastic hosts and it is always a pleasure to catch up with them when you arrive or leave the cottage. In between they just let you get on with your break, but are easily contactable if you need to do so. PS you will also get to know the sheep pretty well and it's fantastic during lambing season when you can sit and watch the lambs playing!
So, in summary, you will love your stay at Crosple Cottage and you may even fall in love with the place like we have. We will definitely be returning next year and looking forward to our next visit already.
