The Avish Cottage
What a wonderful stay in the Avish Cottage. Spacious, impeccably decorated and furnished and lacking nothing at all in terms of equipment and comfort. Can highly recommend the Avish Cottage ti anyone visiting Derry.

Wonderful fully-restored cottage
Our stay here was magnificent. The cottage was so spacious inside that my wife kept getting lost. She also liked visiting Buster, the local horse. Plenty of space for a family of five (with three nearly aduly sons). We cooked and ate dinner every night in the well-appointed kitchen because what was the point in going to a restaurant? Very relaxing after a long day touring far and wide. The cottage has a beautiful view of the sunset. Derry/Londonderrywas a short drive away, but you'd never know it because the cottage was in such a scenic part of the countryside. Our host was very friendly and accommodating. He gave us a good tip on how to avoid the high parking fees at the Giant's Causeway (park at the railway station and take a short stroll). With no offense meant to the other places where we stayed during our month-long trip, both north and south of the (non)border, this cottage was by far the best.

Beautiful
The Avish Cottage was perfect for us. The cottage was comfortable on the inside and beautiful views around. And quiet. Easy access to all sites. The owner was especially gracious as was her brother.

Perfect rural retreat and exceptional hosts.
This old farm property is close to Derry and an ideal base for touring. It has been expertly and sympathetically restored with beautiful and interesting authentic objects and decor. Absolutely everything we needed was there, including sticky tape! The house was warm and well-heated with an eco-pellet heater plus option for slow combustion stove in the lounge room with wood from the farm. The owners Ann and Robert were great at communication and Robert even met us to show us the way through the Irish lanes when we arrived. Will definitely recommend for a genuine Irish welcome and an authentic cottage experience! Derry itself is also so welcoming of tourists and is a fascinating city.

Many thanks for your very kind comments about the Avish. We're delighted that you so enjoyed being in the cottage, that you found the sticky tape AND your way around the lanes and that you appreciated how great a city Derry has become once again! You will be more than welcome back any time!

Magnifique

Fantastic Holiday Cottage
Comfortable, well equipped cottage in beautiful countryside with views over the valley and of the hills of Donegal beyond. Quiet and secluded, yet so convenient for the city and the sights. Lots of great finishing touches, including a welcome basket full of goodies. We found something new every day - a picture, an embroidery, an elegant piece of pottery and so on. It was interesting to read about the renovation of the cottage - it sounded daunting! A very kind welcome and ongoing TLC from Robert and helpful information prior to our trip from Ann - both of which were greatly appreciated. Thank you both! We enjoyed our holiday very much - we were sorry to leave and could have happily stayed on - the fantastic weather probably wouldn't have continued though. I'd recommend Avish cottage as an excellent holiday rental - I'd be very happy to return in an instant!

Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a kind review. It was just great having you to stay at the cottage for you were great guests and great company. Glad you enjoyed reading about the work we did rebuilding the place and that you liked discovering the various bits and bobs in the house! Especially glad that you had such wonderful weather so you could see our part of Ireland at its very best! Hope you all had a safe and pleasant trip back to Yorkshire. Come back to the Avish whenever you like - you'll be more than welcome.

Cottage envy....
Very much straight out of the holiday magazine ... Beautiful well restored irish farmhouse property... as my title suggests don't stay here if you suffer from cottage envy ... you will want to wrap it up and take it with you.. This is the second time we have stayed at Avish ... a very relaxing break both times.

Superb!
I can't praise the Avish cottage highly enough. The thought that had been put into the renovation was brilliant. It has all you want in modern fittings, but also had lots of beautiful arty touches. You could tell this has been a work of love! Ann was lovely and helpful in her emails that she sent in the run up to our stay, but the welcome we got from her brother Robert was second to none. What a lovely man. It's not often you are welcomed with fresh salad, carrots etc straight off his farm, but we also were supplied with milk, cakes, home made jam and so much more. We had great weather during our stay, and although we were mainly there to see family, we got out and about every day. We love beaches and we were both amazed at the high quality of those nearby! A wee trip to Portrush, Portstewart, Castlerock etc highly recommended. Tons of things of interest to do and this cottage was a smashing base. Again, I can't recommend Ann and Robert's cottage and their welcome and kindness too highly.

Thanks so much for writing such a lovely review - we're really pleased you enjoyed staying at the Avish and that the weather was good enough for you to be able to get about and visit some of the sights on offer. It was a real challenge to restore the cottage the way we did, and it's just great that visitors appreciate it so much and feel at home there. A big thank-you as well for leaving the house so spotless!

About the neighborhood
There's a lot to see and do in the area. At the Avish we provide information tailored to our guests' own tastes. There's a great golf course just a few minutes' drive from the cottage and riding and fishing nearby leisure centre with swimming pool, gym, climbing wall etc. The UK's first City of Culture in 2013, Derry has a great history and a wealth of museums, galleries, cinemas and theatres. The 17th Century Walls are listed as a “You must see” destination by UNESCO. And the cultural year is punctuated by festivals - a jazz festival in the spring, a comedy festival in the summer - when the history of the famous walls also comes to life during the Maiden City Festival - a Hallowe'en parade hailed as the biggest in Europe and the fantastic Foyle Film Festival in November. Oh - and there are also lots of shops, pubs and restaurants where you can sample great locally produced food.
