Perfect stay in a beautiful location
We stayed here for 4 nights over Christmas and were so pleasantly surprised by the cottage - the photos absolutely do not do it justice!! It's very large, plenty big enough for 7 adults and a dog. En suites in every room made it perfect. Lovely finish, TV a bit old but who needs TV when you have a national park! Otherwise the house had everything we needed, even for cooking a Christmas dinner! We didn't see the owner beyond first key pick up but that suited us just fine. The location was amazing... rolling hills as you step out the front door and then after a stroll down country lanes you find beautiful churches and reservoirs. Thank you so much for a lovely stay.

Very comfortable and charming, great location
Honeysuckle Cottage is very comfortable, charming, and quiet, it was spotless when we arrived, and very nicely appointed. The bedrooms are spacious, each with their own bathroom. We loved the location - set just between the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, 5 minutes drive from Llangorse Lake (rowing, canoeing and horse-riding at Ellesmere Riding Centre), and perfect for getting out for hiking. Hay-on-Wye is just 30 minutes away, and many other lovely little towns like Brecon are nearer. Liz the key holder was very kind and helpful. We really loved our stay and are booking to come back again next year!

Large cottage, great stay, great location, a few niggles
We really enjoyed our time at Honeysuckle Cottage. The cottage was a perfect size for two families with young children and we got a lovely warm welcome when we arrived. The beds were extremely comfortable and the downstairs is particularly vast and open plan, which allowed the children to potter about while the adults could keep an eye on them.
A few niggles: There were some skylight-type windows in all the bedrooms, which would have been fine except the blinds to cover them were virtually transparent and pretty useless during a summer evening when trying to get young children to sleep. Fortunately I had brought a portable blackout blind for our room, but the family we were staying with had quite a lot of trouble getting their children to sleep and I can't say I blame the children, with light pouring in from the ceiling. I would have thought that blackout blinds would be pretty standard on windows like these. It was also very hot upstairs compared to downstairs, even with the windows open. This didn't prove too much of an issue, and I realise this was probably down to the stonework structure of the building and something that couldn't be helped, but it's worth noting.
The location of the cottage was great for us as we were staying to attend the Hay Festival, which is a 20-minute drive away. There is also a Morrisons 15 minutes away, while also being in a very quiet location away from any other noise. The cottage had all the utensils, crockery etc we needed, and provided a decent cot (with a good mattress, not a hard travel cot mattress) and high chair, both of which were very much appreciated.

Hi Hannah, I'm so sorry you had trouble with the blinds not being blackout. I've never had that complaint before - I suppose we don't often have such wonderful sunny weather as you enjoyed! I will look into whether they can be supplied for those particular windows and will of course fit them if they are available. Perhaps in the mean time I will provide some portable ones now you have drawn my attention to it. Thank you for that.

Great location, but no electricity upstairs W
We were really disappointed because our entire stay we had no electricity upstairs. We called them to fix it and they said they would send an electrician around but I don't think they did because nothing changed. We payed a lot of money to stay there so to have to use torches in the bedrooms and bathrooms was really frustrating. They had left candles in case of a power cut, but the candles were all burnt out so we couldn't use them.
It's a shame because they were very nice and the cottage and property itself is lovely but we were unable to truly enjoy it because we were stumbling around in the dark.

I'm so sorry you were disappointed with your stay. We seem to have had a misunderstanding because when our son went over to see you in response to your call you told him that all the bedside lights were working and it was just the overhead ones so it wasn't too disruptive. He checked the fuses and all were in order and he booked in an electrician to come over but they couldn't come on that day. Mysteriously when we came in to check on your departure, all the lights were working perfectly and have been doing so ever since. I'm really sorry if this spoiled your stay and thank you for pointing out that the candles need replacing.

Peaceful and Feel at home stay
The cottage is part of Tall John's House. Family owned business. They are also living there which made the life easier for us. The owner Liza and her children are very nice people. The area is beautiful and excellent for a peaceful holiday. We went there with 3 kids therefore space was very important for us. The cottage is here like home. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs and all of them are very nice. Downstairs there is another bedroom, kitchen and living room. The cottage is self catering but we asked the owner to give us both breakfast and dinner with additional charge. They did and especially the dinner and desert was tasteful.
The price is very reasonable and worth it. There was also good wi-fi and the kids were very pleased with it!
My family didn't want to come back! I very much recommend this Cottage if you are travelling with the kids or large family. If you are alone or only a couple you should stay at the main building.

Good eateries nearby but not within walking distance.
Getting around
Wonderful walking either up the hills or along the canal paths.
Simply one of the best walking areas in the UK.
We welcome dogs too!
Biking is also a very good way to get round - the lanes are pretty quiet and there is lots of mountain biking available too
