Luxury 2 bed cottage with the most spectacular views of Cheddar Gorge from its own private balcony. Check out the photos! Located at the foot of Cheddar Gorge (but in an elevated position to take full advantage of the views) this pretty, stone built cottage could not be better situated to explore all that Cheddar (and the rest of Somerset) has to offer. It also has free Wifi. Weekly booking are available during the peak summer season (June to September inclusive) and changeover day is Saturday. Short breaks may also be available (outside of the peak summer season) for a minimum of 3 x nights (please note that Friday - Sunday = weekend nightly pricing). Please enquire before booking for short breaks and also for prices at Christmas. If you want to, you can just park up and leave the car as all of the cafes, tearooms, pubs and shops of Cheddar (as well as Cheddar caves and the Gorge itself) are within a few minutes walk. Axbridge village, with its pretty medieval square, is within walking distance too. (You will need a car or other form of private transport to travel further afield). Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury and Taunton are just a short drive away, as is the picturesque Chew Valley and its surrounding villages. Perfect for ramblers, cyclists, fishing enthusiasts (with Chew Valley lake and Blagdon lake nearby), bird watchers, rock climbers or photographers (the ever-changing scenery is fascinating) - or just relaxing in total comfort - Highcroft has all you need for a wonderful break from the norm. And do feel free to bring man's best friend! Up to 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome; with country walks starting just a stone's throw from the door, your doggy companions will be in heaven. Sleeping 4 people, Highcroft will suit couples, small families (children must be over 12 years old, please) or a group of friends (of course, solo holidaymakers are very welcome too!) Please note however that, because of its elevated position, Highcroft is not suitable for those with limited mobility. Downstairs, this lovely property has a modern sitting room (with comfortable sofa bed), a bright kitchen diner, an understairs storage cupboard and a cloakroom (toilet and hand-basin). Upstairs you will find 1 x double bedroom, 1 x single bedroom and a shower room. There is plenty of cupboard space to store your clothes and belongings. A lockable storage area for bikes etc is available outside. Both the kitchen and the sitting room have french doors opening out onto the decked balcony where those stunning views over Cheddar Gorge will become apparent - there really is no better place to watch the sun popping up over the Mendips, first thing in the morning. Highcroft also has its own private, enclosed, patio garden with waterfall and small pond - quite the nicest spot for a lazy lunch or to sit with a glass of wine (or three!) in the evenings. Parking for one car is available on the owner's drive with on-street parking available a short walk away. The cottage has its own private pedestrian access.

Romantic cottage
Highcroft Cottage was very clean and tidy. Even though dogs are allowed in the premises, we could not smell any previous dogs had been there. The welcome package was really appreciated, with milk, bread, margarine, crumpets etc available as we arrived, as well as a little treat for our dog, which he very much enjoyed! There were all the condements that you needed including sauces and all the equipment for cooking was there. The actual size of the cottage was plenty for the 4 of us. My husband and I slept on the sofa bed in the living room for the week, while our two teenage children had the bedrooms. The sofabed was fine to sleep in for myself, but my husband found it a little bit uncomfortable towards the end of the week. The children found their beds very comfortable. There were some chest of drawers and a dressing table outside of the bedrooms, which was handy for my husband and I. We were able to park in the owners grounds and had to walk across their lawn to get to our cottage. However having said that, Highcroft cottage was very private and secluded away from the owners actual house. The garden was very pretty and peaceful. There was a secure gate to our part of the garden, which led up some steps to some table and chairs and a pond. Then you went further up some steps going to our cottage. There was another secure gate at the end of the balcony. I felt very happy that our dog was safe and secure. The owners Andy and Helen, were quite happy for us to use their part of the garden too and were very friendly and accomodating. There were plenty of takeaways and places to eat near by at walking distance and there was also a small Sainsburys about 20 minutes walk away. The best of all for me though was the view. Sitting outside on the balcony with a nice glass of wine, watching the Cheddar gorge, listening to the sound of the pond and the people in Cheddar was very relaxing and it felt very romantic! Even though we were close by to everything, we also felt away from all the hustle and bustle as our cottage was elevated. You could also see the view of the Cheddar gorge from the living room sofa. I had the french doors open as often as a could, so I could look at the wonderful view.

Fabulous views!
A short walk from the village centre and with stunning views, this cosy cottage is a perfect, dog friendly place to stay for 2-3 people. A warm welcome from our hosts and a welcome pack in the kitchen, ensured we had comfortable start to our week in Cheddar. We will definitely be back soon!

Perfect in everyway
The location is perfect for a walk into Cheddar Gorge and nice and central to travel to other places such as Glastonbury, Wells and Bath and many more. The cottage was very clean and had all the essentials you need and more. An amazing view sitting out on the Veranda so amazing we ate in most nights to enjoy the view. Andy and Helen were very helpful and pleasant. Many Thanks Wayne & Roz

Car free Easter Break
If what you’re looking for is a short break where you can leave the car behind and do everything on foot, this a great base. The cottage is located at the foot of cheddar gorge and at the start of some lovely walks. Set in the grounds of the owners home it also felt like a safe place for us to leave the kids (16 and 11) for a couple of hours while we popped 5 minutes up the road to some lovely cheddar venues (La Rocca and On the Rocks being two of our favourites) - also close enough for the kids to pop into cheddar themselves to visit the amazing ice cream shop!!

Fabulous
We stayed here as a family of 4 for a week in August. The cottage is idyllic, set within beautiful gardens in a central location in Cheddar. The property is perfect for a family or couple and so easy to get to surrounding towns, cities and beaches. Helen and Andy have thought of everything to make the stay perfect right down to the welcome grocery pack (very much appreciated). This is certainly a home from home with all the required necessities, utensils, bedding, towels, hairdryer, iron, washing machine ........... the list is endless. There are numerous bars, restaurants and cafes in the area and all within walking distance of the cottage. We ate out quite a few times and can highly recommend La Rocca, Zen Thai, Riverside Inn, either of the local fish and chip shops and the Chinese take away to name a few. At the time of our visit Cheddar Caves had not reopened due to Covid, however, this did not stop us from venturing out elsewhere and to climb Jacobs Ladder a couple of times (I am so unfit but made it to the top eventually - it is worth the hike, I promise, especially if you carry on and do the Cliff walk. Andy and Helen are very helpful and I would definitely recommend Highcroft Cottage and hopefully return again sometime in the future. Thank you

Highcroft cottage Cheddar Gorge
Enjoyed a a week in a lovely cottage. Andy and Helen were excellent hosts. Food essentials left for our arrival. Clean, comfortable, everything needed was there. Like a home from home. The garden and fish pond was beautiful, as was the view from the veranda.

Beautiful, dog-friendly cottage, with stunning garden and views
Highcroft is an oasis of peace set in amazing gardens, with various outside seating areas, but only 2 minutes walk from shops and restaurants. It is comfortable and very well equipped, I couldn't think of anything which was missing, and a very generous welcome pack was provided. Andy and Helen were very welcoming and made it clear that we could contact them for any questions but also left us total privacy to relax and enjoy their beautiful cottage. Our dog could have the run of the garden which was 100% secure. There was a welcome pack of bowls, biscuits, blanket, poo bags etc for him too! Having said it is dog-friendly, the cottage was absolutely pristine and you would never know that any pets had been there. One thing which perhaps isn't made clear in the description is that there is an additional toilet, which is very useful when there are 4 people staying. We didn't want to leave! Thank you so much, Andy and Helen
