Situated in the very heart of the oldest, historic part of the east side of Whitby, The Corner House is one of the oldest properties in Whitby, with a lease first being signed in 1639! Fully renovated in 2014 with a host of quality fixtures and fittings to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
We love our location, as it's perfect for travellers of all ages with there being no hills, steep steps or cobbles to negotiate with walking sticks or pushchairs. We're still within very, very easy reach of shoppin...

Perfect Whitby holiday home
This was our first time in Whitby, and we did a lot of research to find somewhere that combined being comfortable and affordable with not being on top of a cliff or up a million steps - and the Corner House fits the bill to perfection. It's an obviously old and characterful cottage that has been sensitively renovated to create a holiday home that has both history and modern convenience, and we loved our stay here.
We visited as a family of four and it was fine - some places say they're for four but you arrive and there are only two chairs etc, but everything here was set up for four (though it is cosy and would be just as nice for less people). The open plan living/kitchen/dining area is lovely - brighter and lighter than it looks on the pics - and is well equipped with appliances, TV etc. Upstairs the bedrooms are good sizes, the beds comfy, plenty of storage space available. The bathroom is pretty and comes with a huge shower that we loved. Our time in Whitby was over a very wet and windy few days, and coming home to our little refuge was always lovely - it's very warm, with easy to use heating if you need it.
The location was, in our opinion, perfect. You're essentially at the heart of everything - a few minutes (literally) from the different aspects of Whitby. Out of the door and straight up to the quaint cobbles of the old town along Church Street, and a quick left over the bridge to the other side of town, with it's slightly more modern vibe. Even the little street it's on - Grape Lane - has some fab shops, cafes etc. The cottage is located between a pub (the Quirky Den micro-pub) and a pie shop (Humble Pie and Mash), which is pretty much my definition of heaven - but you don't hear anything from either, maybe due to the thickness of those old walls.
Parking - there is a pay carpark very close, but it does get busy and fill up. We followed the owners' advice and found a free parking spot in Church Street as we drove into town. It was a few minutes' easy walk away, and we only had one suitcase with very good wheels. If you need to be closer there are drop-off spots outside. Once we were parked we left the car there for the whole trip, as Whitby has a lot to offer without needing to drive anywhere.
On the 'old' side of town, we loved the Black Horse pub, with its great selection of drinks and 'Yapas' (Yorkshire tapas!) - available until last orders and really reasonably priced. The whole area is full of gorgeous little shops, cafes and pubs, all the way up to the base of the 199 steps that lead up to the Abbey. We also spent some time in the west side of town, and enjoyed a quiz night at the Elsinore pub, and a very lively karaoke night at the Little Angel. There's a bit of something for everyone! The 199 steps are not as bad as they seem (at least that's what I was told, I wasn't risking it!), but we also went up to see the Abbey and St Mary's Church on the hop-on hop-off tourist bus for ease. We took the bus to Robin Hood's Bay for a few hours there as well.
The Corner House was perfectly located for accessing everything Whitby has to offer, and also provided a cosy, comfy home base. I felt quite smug every time we let ourselves in! The whole place was spotless, and the owner offers lots of advance info and communicates well throughout. Highly recommended.

Perfect location, lovely little get away.
Perfect location. Sat right in the centre of Whitby. The cottage had everything we needed, was lovely and cosy and the beds where really comfortable. We found a lovely little café on the other side of the road from the cottage which served delicious and very cheap breakfast baps, this was our go to every morning. The views from the cottage where lovely to wake up to each morning. Had a fabulous weekend. Would definitely return.

Excellent centrally located cottage
A lovely old cottage, with everything you need and very well kept. It is very central, in easy level walking distance for everything round the harbour. Communication from the owner very good.

Perfect location and home from home
Second stay at this little cottage. It’s a really perfect location being close to the harbour, train station, shops, Abbey and piers.
The host Nichola leaves everything you need for a cuppa when you first arrive which is a godsend.
Beds are comfortable and the cottage is spotless.

Fabulous little cottage!!
I had the pleasure of staying at the Corner House with my wife and 2 children after the recent Easter bank holiday.
The house was found to be exceptionally clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything needed for our stay, there has clearly been quite a lot of thought which has gone in to ensure everything is at hand.
The location of the cottage was perfect for us with parking available nearby and all which the picturesque town of Whitby has to offer being right on the doorstep.
I must say that communication from Nichola was second to none from the outset, detailed information was provided well in advance and questions which we have usually had to ask when staying at other properties were answered without asking!!
We had a really lovely stay here and would certainly recommend the corner house, we fully intend to visit again.!

Amazing Cosy Cottage
Couldn't have asked for anything better the cottage more than met our expectations. The cottage has everything you need for a cosy pleasant stay. The bedrooms are spacious, the beds are lovely and comfortable. The cottage is very clean and Nichola is an amazing hostess very attentive and on hand should you need her, not that you will.
The shops, bars and restaurants are literally on the doorstep. Had a nice meal at the Edge restaurant and a lovely take away from the Passage to India to name a few!
Would definitely stay here again. Thanks Nichola x

About the neighborhood
Come and visit our Whitby, which is nestled along the banks of the natural harbour at the mouth of the River Esk, Yorkshire's only Salmon river, and see how flawless Whitby jet, made famous by Queen Victoria, is turned into arguably some of the most beautiful jewellery in the world.
Then wander around its narrow streets crammed full of independent traders, selling everything from dog treats to dinosaurs!
The Pannett Park museum and its grisly "Hand of Glory" is another "must see"; together with a visit (or two!) to the many local hostelries, where a thriving live music scene can be found.
A 5 minute stroll from The Corner House is Whitby Railway Station, where the steam trains of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway will make you feel like you've been transported back in time! Journey through fabulous scenery to visit Goathland, or continue on to Pickering, before returning back to sample some of finest and freshest food Whitby has to offer.
Ice cream, seafood, international cuisine, pie & mash or good, old fashioned, fish and chips can all be found within a very short stroll of The Corner House and if you've got room after that, why not treat yourself to coffee and cake in any number of excellent, independently run, cafes.
Up the famous 199 steps you'll find the iconic Abbey and St Mary's Church, which was the inspiration behind the most well known of all vampire stories, Dracula.
Whitby's "not to be missed" festivals and specialist themed events can be found throughout the year too - great music, great atmosphere and fabulous people watching opportunities - these do get booked really quickly though!
Getting around
As soon as you arrive in Whitby my advice is to leave the car in the car park! Not only because parking spaces are at a premium but because Whitby and its surroundings are brilliant for exploring on foot or via public transport.
An open top bus runs from the west side of town up to the Abbey (if you don't fancy the 199 steps!) a regular intervals through the day, as well as scheduled bus services from the station to Scarborough, Sleights, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and many other places.
There is also the North York Moors Railway, which runs every day from Pickering to Whitby, with its fantastic collection of preserved steam and diesel trains - a must for all the family.
