Nice but needs maintaining
First of all, on first appearances, a nice place. Basic, but nice. The original stone wall feature is stunning. However, on closer inspection, the cottage clearly needs a deep clean and maintained better - for example there were a couple of holes in the walls, one large one behind the front door, the mat as you walked in had lots of, was seemed like, duck faeces on it, the carpets and mat could do with a clean, curtain poles were hanging on by one screw, shower curtain pole is ridiculously rusty, shower pressure was non existent with no cold coming through at all. The bathroom is extremely tiny and is in desperate need of an update. Bathroom door was really dirty, the door gets stuck and you really have to pull to open it. And there were dirty marks on the bathroom wall that a simple wipe over would have got rid of. The bedrooms were fine, beds were made nicely, not the best mattress but each to their own when it comes to a comfy mattress. Plenty of storage with a big wardrobe, if needed. Warmed up nicely when heating was put on. The kitchen is nice and big, again, could do with a deep clean, especially the tiles near the cooker. From the outside, the cottages and grounds are beautiful. The only downside to outside was finding out we were next to sewage works which didn’t have a very nice smell, you couldn’t really smell it when inside the cottage unless you opened the windows. We only stayed the one night so not sure if that’s a regular smell on a regular basis. The morning we left we couldn’t smell it like we did when we arrived. Such a shame really, as this has the potential to be a really cosy cottage if the little simple details and maintenance were taken care of accordingly.

location is the only good thing
so much missed potential. Absolutely filthy. Furniture stinks of smoke. Doors are sticky. Stained mattresses. The place could easily be perfect but its just too dirty for me. Bizzarly we were next to someone hosting a hen do! I love whitby and regularly stay in cottages bit I've never been anywhere like this. I wont return or recommend this place.

Needs updating
This property has a lot of potential, great location and courtyard setting. The cottage itself at first glance looked clean and tidy but on further inspection it really did need a good deep clean. The kitchen in particular needs a bit of attention, the fridge was dirty as was the drainer on the sink. The plates in the cupboard were not all clean and the pans rusty, we couldn’t use the frying pan as it was really grimy. We had planned to eat in the cottage but had to change our plans. The shower was very difficult to get to the correct temperature and the bathroom could do with a bit of an update. The floors are extremely creaky but that in itself wouldn’t of been a problem. The price was very reasonable but would of been happy to pay more if the facilities were improved.

Wonderful stay.
Loved it! The cottage was so cute but a great size and in the perfect location, owners were really friendly. Plus there is an animal sanctuary next door. My whole family had an amazing weekend, will definitely be coming back! Thank you.

Lovely cottage
Having read the reviews we knew about the creaky floorboards - never heard creaky floorboards like it! Was quite funny going to bed each night and trying to keep quiet so as not to wake the children! The cottage was the perfect base for exploring Whitby and the coastline there. The children loved the playground and the games room - great distraction while parents were cooking dinner or sorting stuff. The cottage was warm, clean and comfortable although did feel a bit tired. However we had a lovely stay and would stay again if we come to this part of the coast again. Many thanks

Good base for a short stay.
Quiet place to stay with the dogs with no interference from the owner. Only a short drive from the centre (or walk if you wish!). Would revisit again.

2 day break
Visited Horseshoe Cottage for a two day break. The cottage was warm, comfortable and clean. We were pre-warned about the squeaky flooring from a previous review, they somehow added a quirky charm. It is a great base to explore Whitby. We will definetley head back. Value for money. Many thanks to the owners.

Lovely cottage but squeaky floorboards!
The cottage is lovely and a brilliant location for Whitby. We loved being in the countryside as well as having Whitby town, harbour and abbey so close to explore. The cottage was well equipped and parking was ideal. The only downside to the cottage was how squeaky the floorboards were upstairs (I’ve never heard floorboards as loud haha) - this wouldn’t normally be a problem at all apart from my 10 month old baby woke up as soon as anyone took a step. Would recommend the cottage overall. Thank you!!

Horseshoe Cottage
We absolutely love the location of this cottage. It’s spacious peaceful and the cinder path at the back of the cottage is just ideal especially if you enjoy walking ... walk to Whitby or walk the other way to Scarborough... we will definitely be returning again. This was our second time staying at Broomfield Farm it in a perfect location walking distance to Sainsbury /Adi or even B&M.. a pub 4 min drive away to the Windmill Inn. No car parking problems to think about this is a massive bonus. Looking forward to our next visit.
