This delightful 300 year old fisherman's cottage has been fully modernised, yet retains many original quirky and unique features. It is superbly located on the harbourside and small beach, just 20 metres from all the local restaurants, bars and shops, as well as the famous 199 steps. From the four front windows of the property guests can enjoy fabulous views directly on to the harbour/ beach and out to sea. It's near impossible to to find a front line location/luxury holiday cottage with stunning views in front of the harbour and beach, this is the one. The cottage is fully equipped with all that the self catering visitor may need, including a modern gallery kitchen with black granite worktops, built-in Bosch oven hob and dishwasher. In the sitting room/kitchen is solid oak floorboards, a comfortable modern black leather corner suite, black wall fire and black wall mounted sky TV. Free WiFi is available. The house bathroom has marble flooring an old style Victorian bath with claw feet in addition to a modern corner shower cubicle. Old style cast radiators provide central heating. The cottage sleeps 5 in two doubles (1 ensuite) and one single room, with an additional shared bathroom. All 3 bedrooms enjoy fantastic views over the harbour, beach and out to sea. All windows have stylish window shutters, all bedroom furniture is solid oak. Towels and bedding included in the price. Children are welcome but no pets. Please note there is moderate slope leading to the cottage and, with angled stairs both outside and inside the cottage, may mean the cottage is not suitable for the very young, elderly or infirm. The cottage does not have dedicated car parking as it is adjacent to the local beach. Guests can drop off and pick up from Church Street (50 yards from the cottage) and then use the local public car park which is a five minute walk away.More

The cottage is very quirky with beautiful views in a perfect location in the centre but at the same time just tucked away. We used to take our coffee downstairs, have a drink on the harbourside and watch the world go by.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed the cottage location. It is great to watch the harbour activities from the beach under the cottage on a sunny day and, in winter, just as nice but looking out from the cottage windows. I look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip to Whitby.

This cottage was right next to the slip way. The view over the harbour was constantly changing and very interesting to watch. The cottage itself was very comfortable and near all amenities. All in all a very nice accommodation.

Just got back from a 4 night stay at the Maritimus Cottage. The cottage itself is in a brilliant location. If you desire, there is a bar, the rowing club, only 5 seconds walk from the front door. It's right off the cobbled street and very close to the famous 199 steps. The cottage is really small, but suitable for 5 occupants. My wife and I couldn't attend unfortunately, but we were due to go with our son, his wife and our granddaughter. They still went so this is effectively their review. The room had a small , but very well equipped kitchen area, leading into the sitting room which contained a TV (inc. Sky Entertainment package and can record) also Netflix is included, no need for your own subscription. On the lower level is an ensuite bedroom, double bed. In the ensuite is a small shower cubicle, toilet and small sink. Up the stairs is a small bedroom with a single bed, the next bedroom contains another double bed. The bathroom has a freestanding bath, a toilet, sink and very large shower cubicle. Everything we needed was there. Our daughter was just about old enough to be safe in the property, but I wouldn't recommend for anyone maybe under 4 unless you take your own baby gate(s). The stairs are steep and are right next to the single bedroom, so access to the bathroom could be precarious. The only downside was the parking. As it was located where it was, the nearest parking was between a 5 and 10 minute walk, so lugging the cases wasn't ideal. But once you've unloaded, you can forget about this for the duration of your stay. All in all I would highly recommend this property and wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Thank you for your review. The cottage is nearly 250 years old and so, whilst this makes the cottage a bit quirky and unusual, it also means strange stairs and bulging walls. The said I am glad you enjoyed your time in the cottage and all the local amenities on the doorstep. I look forward to welcoming your back on your next trip to Whitby.

Maritimus Cottage is an enjoyable place to stay. The cosy accommodation itself is well equipped, and it's in a great location, overlooking the Esk estuary with all the activity that generates, and only a few yards from Church Street with its pubs, eating places and shops, plus the steps to the abbey, church and brewery. No private outside space but that wasn't a problem for us as there's plenty of seating by the lifeboat station just a few steps away, ideal for people and boat watching. It was always easy to drop off luggage and/or shopping from the car, and usually there was space in the nearby Church Street car park - the larger car park by the marina always had spaces and is only 15 minutes walk away. We found it more flexible to by parking tickets on a day to day basis, and these appear to allow parking in all Scarborough council car parks.

Stayed in Maritimus last October. It’s in a fantastic location, looking over the harbour. The cottage is very well appointed and has been renovated to a very high standard. We have already booked again for 2022. Can’t praise it highly enough!

We keep wanting to come back here because,to us, it is the perfect place to be in Whitby. Great location and views so whatever the weather you can enjoy seeing what's going on in the harbour. The cottage has everything you need and is not chintzy!
