Haglathe House

Visited by Tripadvisor
Overview
Rental Home -
3 Bedrooms , 2 Bathrooms , Sleeps 6
Whitby, Scarborough District, North Yorkshire, England
Haglathe House is a spacious stone terraced Grade II listed building constructed in 1760. It is next door to the authentic Fortune kipper smoking shop and used to be owned by the Fortune family. The late Bill Fortune told us that they used to smoke fish in the range on the ground floor of the cottage.

Haglathe House is located in one of the most attractive old streets of Whitby, one minute from the beach, 199 steps leading up to Whitby Abbey, shops, pubs and the harbour. It is tastefully furnished to a high standard and retains some nice old features like an open fireplace in an original Yorkshire Range in the first-floor living room. From the second floor window, across the rooftops, you have views of the sea all the way to Sandsend.

Close to beach and cliff walks. Well-behaved dogs welcome.

About the neighborhood
Whitby is a small seaside town located on the North Yorkshire coast, in the North East of England, between Scarborough and Redcar. But it is also rather more than that.

Whitby is isolated from the surrounding major towns due to the protective influence of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the local geography. There are no motorways, dual carriageways, planes or high speed trains connecting Whitby to anywhere else - and it seems very likely that there never will be. Annoying when you want to get to here in a hurry, but such an important part of the unique ambience. A lost world, stuck in time and dripping with history.

How to get there
COMING TO WHITBY BY CAR & BIKE

From the North, take the A171 out of Guisbrough, and follow the road across the rolling hills until you're suddenly greeted by a panoramic view of Whitby and the sea. Keep following the road all the way, and you'll arrive in the town. (See note below about parking in Whitby)

From the South, West and South West, follow the A64 from York, then take the A169 from Malton, through Pickering and then across the North Yorkshire Moors, with stunning panoramic views. Stay on the 169 all the way down Blue Bank, through Sleights, and up the other side of the valley to a roundabout connecting you with the A171. Turn right, and follow the road all the way into town.
