Lovely, well presented holiday home
I visited with 6 other ladies sharing the cost between us, making it very cheap for 2 nights. We were a little worried it may be a little small inside but it was very spacious inside, with 3 bathrooms, (2 with large baths) and enough space for 7 people to sleep. The owners kept us informed from the moment I boomed throught to the day of arriving with plentiful information including restaurants and places to go on Whitby. Inside the property was reallyvwell kept and presented nicely and had all items we needed except for towels. They even had a coffee machine and biscuits ready for us! They did say there would be milk and a bottle of wine but they weren't there when I got there. (Maybe one of the other ladies snaffled them though 🤣) but would be a nice touch for guests. The owners were extremely pleasant and sent us information about arrival the day before.
You are a 5 minute car journey (or £6 Uber ride) to Whitby Town centre or a 20 minute walk (uphill!) But would be a nice walk in spring/summer. There is a lot of outdoor space for children to play and I noticed a little park nearby.

Excellent
Fantastic location with lovely views of the viaduct and the river Esk. The house is very comfortable and well equipped with everything you could possibility need.
There are nearby foot paths and lovely walks to Robins Holds Bay and Scarborough.
The walk from Sandsend to Runswick Bay is longer but well worth it for the scenery.
Overall this is a excellent place to stay and explore the local countryside and Whitby it's self.

Many thanks Vicki for taking the time to do a review for us. As you mention there are plenty of walks from the cottage and surrounding areas and our location is also only about a 25 minute walk into Whitby itself. We hope to be able to welcome you to our cottage again in the future.

Fantastic location & great for families
Great 4 day trip in the summer holidays, 2 adults and 5 children! The cottage had everything we needed with the benefit of lots of outdoor space, 3 toilets and 2 rooms with tv’s in! Lovely to have separate kitchen/ living room space. The views of the viaduct and river were great and so lovely to be o the banks of the river where the kids were able to spot lots of wildlife including g herons, salmon, jelly fish and eels!! Great base for a short break or longer!

After a long awaited trip after covid, we had another amazing time in Kauri cottage. The improvements were weclomed. The cottage is very clean, tidy, has all the amenities needed to stay with a family of 8 for 10 days. The range of our family was 3-65 and all enjoyed. I would like to thank Martin and his wife for another great holiday, heres to the next one!

Stay in an Idyllic holiday home in Whitby
We have just returned from a fantastic weekend break at Kauri Cottage.
The house is idyllically placed in a countryside setting. It is by a river and under a historic viaduct, with wonderful open views. Ducks regularly waddled by to say hello!
Whitby is a vibrant place and easily accessible by both car and foot. In fact, we’d highly recommend the walk as it is along an old railway track which has been made into a walkaway, across the viaduct and through lovely countryside to the town. In total it takes around 20 minutes.
There is also ample parking for multiple cars at the house, if required.
The house was pristinely clean and included everything we needed for a weekend away. Three bathrooms/toilets came in handy with the group of us and plenty of room to settle in, with a dining room, large kitchen, lounge and three bedrooms.
There are also two terraced areas to sit out at and take in the wonderful views.
All in all – very highly recommended! Thank you to the hosts for such a lovely stay.

Fabulous Cottage
Excellent location, which we found very easily, stunning place in beautiful surroundings.
The cottage was very tastefully decorated, and had all the equipment, and utensils for every need.
The cottage had three floors, the middle one with a balcony, and fabulous views.
An easy walk into Whitby town, with lots of restaurants, and if you like fish, and chips it’s definitely the place to be.
We will be back again, and again.
Eileen and Bob.

Great location
Myself and my family only stayed for 2 nights but the cottage was so lovely. It was very well located on the outskirts of Whitby but only a short drive into Whitby and there was plenty of parking at the cottage. The cottage was very well equipped and very well set out we particularly liked the large kitchen diner. We would definitely recommend to friends and family and would love to return in the future

Just book!
We’ve just spent our first weekend at this lovely cottage and have already booked our next visit. It is beautifully located at the foot of Larpool Viaduct, with easy access into Whitby. The cottage had everything we could have wished for - a real home from home! Why delay - get it booked!

The town of Whitby itself is a charming mixture of old and new boasting a number of high quality restaurants and wine bars together with the more traditional pubs and cafes.
Shopping also has lots to offer with a wide variety of boutiques, craft shops and general outlets to browse. The beach can be accessed from the town and stretches for several miles to the quiet back water of Sandsend if you are feeling energetic.

How to get there
From the north follow the A171 crossing over the bridge which looks over Whitby and the harbour. Turn right at the next junction after the bridge onto Larpool Lane.
From the south follow the A171 and before crossing the bridge looking over Whitby and the harbour, turn left at the junction onto Larpool Lane.
Drive along past the houses on Larpool Lane and the road narrows into a country lane. Continue along for about 1 km and just before a small bridge over the road you will see a driveway sign on the right - 'Captain Cooks Haven, Riverside Walk, Riverside View'.
Turn into this driveway and continue driving slowly down towards the river down the steep hill until you drive parallel with the river.
Continue towards the large viaduct where you will find parking for Kauri Cottage. Parking spaces are not allocated so you are able to park in any of the marked spaces under the viaduct and beside the river.
If you are arriving by train or bus you will arrive in the centre of Whitby. Your best option from here would be to get a taxi. Taxis are available from the taxi rank which is situated by Trenchers Fish Restaurant by the harbour.
It is approximately one mile to Kauri Cottage and our full address is 9 Riverside Walk, Off Larpool Lane, Whitby YO22 4NY.
