Visitors to Cliburn Weigh Office will find that, whilst this historical railway building has been completely modernised, it has been tastefully renovated to retain its charm and many of the original features and characteristics.
Its secluded location is ideal for those wishing to relax and get away from it all, those wanting to be closer to nature, or those wanting to get out and about.
Nature is on your doorstep, with visitors often seeing the local red squirrels and deers from Whinfell Forest or Salter Wood. At night little light pollution means that it is perfect for stargazing and if that wasn't enough, a short drive and we are walking up one of the many fells or playing in one of the lakes.

After that we leave you very much to yourselves, unless you want to interact or if there is an issue and you need our assistance.
The Weigh Office is a charming little building, I was amazed at how spacious it was inside compared to its small size from the outside. We booked through the owner's website which was the cheapest option and as we paid straightaway using direct debit we were given a complimentary bottle of wine and biscuits for our stay which were delicious. Wendy came to say hello after we pitched up and let us know to knock on their door if we had forgotten anything which we did and nothing was too much trouble. Owners were very welcoming but not intrusive. Kitchen was well kitted out with oil, salt and pepper too. Everything was clean. I would mind the shower doors, can be a bit temperamental and pop off the rail at times but shower itself worked great. Didn't get use out of the decking as it was cold and wet but I can imagine it would be lovely in the warmer months with the bbq to use.
The bedroom area has a skylight - sitting up there with a book and hearing the birds chirping with a cup of tea in hand after a long walk was the best part!
We found the location easy to get to and secluded with good parking area for one car. Owners offer a discount for a future stay which is great too.

Beautiful place to stay
This property and surrounding areas are beyond words, you will have to see it to believe it. We were met by Gavin, who was extremely helpful and knowlegeable about the area, really enjoyed our two night stay, I wish we had booked for longer.

Amazing repurposed building at the former Cliburn Station
Just had a brilliant stay at the Weighbridge. A cosy let for two people, beautifully restored, every convenience provided, superb hosts and wine and cookies left out. Satellite television, good shower, fully equipped kitchen. The mezzanine bed is up a steep ladder and low headroom. Not ideal for two old folks but what a fabbie place for honeymooning newlyweds! Being split level this is not a let for mobility challenged people. Secluded village location below the forest, lovely views and the delightful old station surrounds, all beautifully restored. A credit to the hosts and an asset for the village. Close to Penrith and Lakeland countryside. There are red squirrels, easy parking, a patio, underfloor heating and a wood stove if desired. Super shower. Wi fi offered though we did not need it. Peaceful and good for working (we were on business). Gentle dawn chorus in the morning. I wondered if I heard the chatter of railway workers and passengers on one of our nights!

Very Cosy
We had a fabulous stay in Railway Weigh Office Holiday Cottage. It was spotless and very cosy. The lovely cookies and a bottle of wine on arrival was a nice greeting😊. The cottage was well equipped. A good size Co-op was nearby. We will definitely be back and I will definitely recommend others as well. Thanks Gavin for a lovely stay.

The Hidden Gem Of Cumbria
Stayed at the Weigh Office last weekend and cannot recommend staying here enough. Upon arrival we were greeted by Gavin the owner who was lovely, he explained everything we needed to know and let us settle down. Although the office is small it only adds to its charm and character, there is everything in there that you need. Location is brilliant, we came for a weekend of hiking in the Lake District, a 20 minute ride away and your in the heart of the Lakes. I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank Gavin for being so welcoming and helpful the whole time that we were there. Will without doubt be coming back to this hidden Gem.

Fantastic little cottage.
Me and my husband stayed at this wonderful little cottage for 3 nights. Gavin and Wendy are very welcoming and there was a lovely bottle of wine left for us on arrival. The cottage has everything you need as it’s well equipped. Great base to explore the Lake District and lovely after a day out to come back and light the wood burning stove up (very cosy). Would definitely come back in the future.

A beautiful part of the country matched by the lovely weigh office, small and compact, but charming and quirky. Lovely Cottage
Lovely little cottage. Perfect size for two. Really well equipped and modern facilities. Bed area was very nice and, although the ladder was a little nervy in the middle of the night there were no actual problems.
We used it as a base to explore the lakes and never spent longer than an hour in the car getting to Windermere or Ullswater or Keswick.

With the lakes and fells of the Lake District only a short drive and the market towns of Alston, Appleby, Penrith, Brough, Keswick and Kirkby Stephen nearby, visitors should always be able to find something of interest. Or your stay may be specific if you plan to visit the area to attend one of the growing number of events in the area, like the Appleby Horse Fair, Kendal Calling, Lowther Game and Country Fair or Potfest
