Visitors to Cliburn Signal Box will find that, whilst it has been completely modernised, it has been tastefully renovated to retain its charm and many of the original features and characteristics. Its secluded location is ideal for those wishing to relax and get away from it all, those wanting to be closer to nature, or those wanting to get out and about. Nature is on your doorstep, with visitors often seeing the local red squirrels and the Signal Box uses the first floor lounge, which has windows to three sides, to give breathtaking views of the Eden Valley. Cliburn Signal Box
Nice clean well maintained accommodation. A few railway artefacts which was interesting. Lovely and warm. Ideal rural location but not too far from Penrith with shops etc. Lots of dog walks nearby. If you are s geocacher there's a really sidetracked cache close to the signal box. Helpful hosts.

Don't Miss It
Agree with other comments- great place and well modernised as you would expect. Practical information - there is nothing in the village of Cliburn other than a fish and chip van on Tuesdays which is well worth a visit - best from a mobile van we have ever encountered. If you look on a detailed map of the surrounding area you will see that there's a Centre Parcs site just up the road - this has ABSOLUTELY no impact on the property at all as all traffic to the site enters 4 or so miles away, so do not be put off if you see it. Almost endless walks around the area - I managed over 40 miles without driving anywhere. We will be back as soon as we can. Wendy had put up some banners for Grahams 70th birthday and is on hand should you need anything.

Unique Establishment
Wow what a wonderful place to relax. On the edge of Whinfell forest . The signal box has been superbly refurbished. The views from the living room were very tranquil and with no light pollution star gazing is brilliant. Comfy bed. All the things you would need in a kitchen including a very "welcome" welcome pack from our hosts. Storm Arwen may have raged but we were very cozy and warm . Lovely walks around nearby Pooley Bridge. Hope to return .

Fantastic highly recommended 👌
what a fantastic restoration of a signal box. We had a peaceful relaxing stay with lovely walks to local villages. We enjoyed seeing the red squirrels on our woodland walks and at the feeder by the signal box. A real gem in Cumbria and so looking forward to staying again soon, Both Gavin and Wendy very welcoming and at hand if needed 😊

Super signal box stay
Lovely peaceful tranquil place to relax and unwind. Beautiful views from the main signal box room, watch red squirrels nearby in the forest. So well equipped that it is easy to stay in and enjoy some quiet time. Great places to visit, castles, Roman remains and market towns with interesting shops in the Fells and the Dales .

Fabulous stay
Fabulous stay Had a fabulous stay at the signal box, we were sent directions and postcode to the property and had no trouble finding it. Wendy the owner called in to check we had everything we needed. Lovely quirky accommodation converted to a very high standard, very well equipped and with underfloor heating made it very cosy for our weeks stay. Lots of information provided on local attractions, maps of the lakes which we found very useful and also some history of the property which was interesting. Fantastic views from the lounge upstairs across the countryside, woods to the side which were lovely for an early morning walk. We found it an ideal location, penrith, Ullswater, Windermere, Keswick all only a short distance away. Would recommend a visit to Haweswater reservoir for both cycling and walking absolutely stunning. Look no further if you want an ideal stay, hopefully we will be back in the near future.

With the lakes and fells of the Lake District only a short drive and the market towns of Alston, Appleby, Penrith, Brough, Keswick and Kirkby Stephen nearby, visitors should always be able to find something of interest. Or your stay may be specific if you plan to visit the area to attend one of the growing number of events in the area, like the Appleby Horse Fair, Kendal Calling, Lowther Game and Country Fair or Potfest.
Getting around
We are 7 miles from the nearest town, so a car is recommended. However, once here the local roads are ideal for cycling, if that's one of your hobbies.
