We stayed at the Gables over the New Year 2023. The house is great, ideally located for a large family group, close to amenities, shops, bars & restaurants & a short walk to Derwent Water. The house was clean & well equipped. Chris, the host was fantastic, so helpful when we had to postpone our holiday a couple of times due to covid & so reactive, responding straight away to our queries both before & after our holiday. Thanks Chris for a great holiday.

Central accommodation
Visited for a family get together, the accommodation was well equipped and comfortable, very spacious and good socialising area. Keswick centre just over the road. Had a little trouble getting parked with more than one car but it was Bank Holiday weekend.

Glad you enjoyed it Melanie, the town was built in the 1850s, so there is free parking on the side streets near Greta Street - glad you enjoyed your stay

Three generations of our family plus two dogs stayed at The Gables to celebrate an 80th birthday and everyone agreed it was a special weekend. The Gables is a fabulous house in an enviable location right on the edge of Keswick. It has great sized rooms so never felt overcrowded even with 13 people (apart from family gathering in the kitchen at meal preparation time, that happens in all homes!) The pool table was well used (handy on a wet day) and as we have a pianist in the family, the piano was wonderful.
We're missing that lovely house and are jealous of who's there now!

Perfect Family Celebration House
My parents booked The Gables for Dad's 80th - there were 13 of us and 2 dogs. We loved it ... the house is fab, the outside areas were neat and tidy and the inside was very clean. The pool table went down a storm!! The kitchen was like a hive of activity morning, noon and night! Easy trip in to the dining room with foods and drinks. The very pleasant walk into town lasted about 5 minutes! Keswick is so lovely and the people are all friendly. With respect to The Gables there was literally only one inconvenience and that was that the pillows were all too firm. There were 2 people who didn't have a problem and slept okay but the rest of us had morning grumbles!
I would still return and recommend to others ... just take your own pillow.

Very good, spacious accommodation
Well equipped, very spacious 4 storey Victorian House provides excellent accommodation for large groups. In a nice part of town, views over the park, very close the town centre. Quiet inside and between rooms: double glazing and Victorian walls keep noise out very well.
Not the height of luxury but a very decent standard and perfect for walkers. A lot of thought has gone into it by the owners. Very useful garden and excellent to have separate laundry room and boot room.
Parking is not a problem unless you are decrepit. Streets a few minutes walk away have plenty of free parking.
Minor quibbles: TV could be a bit bigger in living room; and some of the showers are the typical electronic dribble variety.
One thing that did annoy. In winter, everywhere in Keswick needs a fire. This is a well established principle. There are three living flame fires here but all are disconnected. If just the one fire in the living room worked it would have made all the difference to ambiance (which should never be overlooked). No doubt someone with a deathwish once threw themselves into the tepid flames and now the whole of the sane population has to suffer, but please find a way to have one again. A living flame fire is advertised on at least one of the internet listings.
I would however recommend without hesitation and it is superior to the last property we stayed in (which is now part of the marine landscape).

Hi Mark
Sorry about the fire, we are sorting it out in the Lounge ASAP (we have a blocked chimney, so I assume a bird nest but we will find out when the chimney sweeps comes this week)

Parking issues
Well positioned in beautiful Keswick.
However there are a couple of issues. The first being the attic room. This is just one room with a dividing door. It has only on route of access, meaning that if there are 14 staying in the house that the couple staying in the far end of the attic have to walk past the other couple to go to the bathroom. The 7th couple have to stay on a very uncomfortable sofa bed, ok for one night maybe, but not a whole week.
Parking is a problem, not advertised accurately and we picked up a £25 parking fine!

Hi thanks for your feedback..we are sorry that you had some problems. On our website - www.newlandshousekeswick.co.uk - for The Gables, it is clearly stated that the extra two bed spaces are on a sofa bed in the lounge in the attic and unfortunately you are the first guests to say that it is uncomfortable...we have since brought a 4 inch mattress topper for future guests. We also state that there is one parking space for a car at at the bottom of the garden next to The studio, plus plenty of on street parking down any of the streets off Penrith Rd which is opposite the house. We realise that you did book the property through Sally's Cottages who did not have the correct information on their site... we are now ensuring that they have the correct information so any confusion does not happen again. So to clarify the sleeping arrangements - The Gables sleeps 12/14 with The Studio at the bottom of the garden sleeping 2/3 people - which is why the board says 14-17 people. Once again we are sorry for any confusion and have asked Sally's Cottages to update there information.

Absolutely superb place to stay in Keswick
I stayed at The Gables with friends and what a wonderful time we all had.
The whole place is fabulous, very well thought out and the attention to detail is amazing.
It's very central to the shops, bars and restaurants in Keswick and of course the lake too.
Would thoroughly recommend The Gables.

Fantastic House in a perfect location!
We stayed at this fabulous property in May 2015. There were 12 of us in total including 4 children. The house is finished to a very high quality with absolutely everything you need in there. All the crockery is good quality and there is plenty of everything. All the rooms were a really good size too. The location in keswick is second to none, just a short stroll (200 meters) and you are in the centre!

Lovely house & location
We booked The Gables for a long weekend for a group of 9 adults, and found it was very well equipped, with plenty of room for us all - enough comfy seats in the lounge, big dining table, bathrooms, mugs, glasses, crockery etc. It was easy to walk to shops, hills, & pubs.
