Home away from home
We stayed in Gillbank Cottage back in June and had a wonderful time. The hosts brought a very personal touch to the place and could not have been more friendly and helpful in the build up to (and during) our stay. The cottage itself is very tasteful in its decor, well equipped and wonderfully cosy. In addition, it has a lovely garden that enables you to enjoy its peaceful and beautiful location. It is very well-situated for exploring the Lake District. We particularly enjoyed its proximity to Hawkshead and the fact that you could walk across beautiful country paths to reach the village, its pubs, shops and ice-cream shop, which was a huge hit with the kids! In short, we loved our stay in the cottage and look forward to returning!

Gillbank Cottage
From the outset host Geoff was very informative and helpful, going the extra mile to assist us. The cottage is spotlessly clean, warm, cosy and equipped to a high standard. The location is perfect for exploring the Lakes as well as providing good walks on the doorstep. We had a great stay.

A lovely summer holiday at Gillbank Cottage!
My family and I have just returned home from a fabulous two week break away at Gillbank Cottage. We dealt with Geoff before, during and after our stay and he was extremely thorough in ensuring we knew how things worked and what was what, providing lots of useful information. The cottage is very well equipped, the kitchen has everything you need for cooking for yourselves which we did a lot. The garden area with seats and a table was lovely in the heatwave we had whilst staying here. The cottage is very comfortable and spacious. The only thing that is a bit tight and tricky is the parking and access to the property from one direction only - however you are made aware of this when booking and you soon get used to this just something to be aware of if you have a large vehicle! Halfway through our holiday Geoff visited the cottage and left some much appreciated goodies including biscuits for our boys and sausages! Unexpected and very generous. The best thing about Gillbank is the location! Set in a private estate just outside of Hawkshead you can leave your car on the drive and visit a lot of places by foot or bicycle. With our 6 and 9 year old boys we walked into Hawkshead on numerous occasions through the wood not far from the cottage and using the bridleway. We cycled to Wray Castle using the bridleway and also walked there a different day using the footpaths. Latterbarrow is an easy hill to climb minutes away from the cottage with fabulous views across the Lake District. We also enjoyed walks to Hill Top farm and Moor top. The cottage is a great base for the South Lakes and we had a fabulous time - thank you to Geoff and his family for making his feel welcome.

Lovely cottage in the country with all the comforts of your own home
Our stay at Gillbank was excellent, everything was thought of and the cottage truly is lovely and perfectly clean. The contact with owner Geoff before and during our holiday was great, if we had questions, he answered them almost immediately. No need to bring towels, cleaning products, toiletpaper, bin bags or things like that, evertything is in the cottage, there to use by all the guests. Wifi connection and modern equipment is great. We loved the cottage and will visit again if we're in the Lake District.

Superb cosy well equipped cottage in perfect location
This is the second time we have stayed at Gillbank, and it was just as wonderful as the first. Gillbank is a Lakeland cottage, oozing traditional charm and character, and yet fully equipped with everything you'd expect in a modern home. Wifi, Apple TV, sound system, wood burner, timed central heating with boost, and a kitchen packed with all you need, One double bedroom and two singles too, so ideal for couples and families too. Plenty of wardrobe space too, for those who might travel not as light as we do, The front garden has table and chairs, and a wonderful aspect overlooking the private estate and National Trust Woodland. If you're lucky you might just see deer emerging from the woods too. There's a space for a car, which is fine and practical. The location, just outside of Hawkshead, offers so much walking we hardly used the car once we parked up. Geoff is the most attentive host, ensuring we knew everything we needed to know about the cottage before we arrived, and available to help with any queries we might have had (we had none, all went very smoothly). We'll certainly be back!

Everything, and more, that we expected!
Gillbank was everything, and more, that we expected! From the minute we arrived at this lovely, peaceful, Lakeland cottage until the minute we left, we were able to switch off totally. We arrived on a cold, rainy, blustery day and the house was already warm and inviting - and spotlessly clean. The cottage was very well equipped; the kitchen had everything you’d need for a full range of meals; the sitting room comes with a wood-burner, cosy settees, TV (absolute requirement as it was a 6 Nations weekend) and an excellent sound system. The bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable, and once the curtains were closed, the room was lovely and dark resulting in an extremely peaceful sleep. Two smaller single bedrooms were available, though we had no need of them. There is a small entrance / utility area, which we made full use of given the weather. And of course it has wifi! We have a Tiguan, which fitted easily into the allocated parking space. We did not need to move it for the rest of our stay, as we took full advantage of the many walks in the area that could be started from the cottage itself. Outside, there is a garden with table and chairs - we look forward to using them during a future visit! Geoff was an admirable host, albeit virtual in these times, providing a video tour with sufficient information and detail to cover all the things we needed during our stay.

Lovely cottage in a gorgeous part of the country
We had a brilliant stay at Gillbank cottage. The cottage and location was perfect for us. Geoff is a great host and made sure I knew everything before our stay and made the cottages very clean and welcoming for us. We highly recommend for a break and hope to come back to experience the area in the summer.

A holiday to remember for all right reasons
We chose Gillbank Cottage based on the reviews which were on Tripadvisor. What we didn’t expect was that the reviews did not accurately describe what we experienced. They were not even close to describing how brilliant Gillbank Cottage was. From the moment that we spoke to Geoff on the phone when he took us through the layout and arrangements in the cottage to the moment we returned home everything about our holiday was almost perfect. Saying almost because we stayed at the cottage during half term which coincided with some of the worst rainstorms and floods experienced in the Lakes for many years. Despite the howling winds and the torrential rain the cottage was a home from home. It was beautifully appointed and the little touches like the binoculars on the hallway table and the walking maps left for us to use just made our stay memorable in every way. From the duck down duvets to the electric under mattress heating, the matched soft furnishings and curtains to the slow cooker and other kitchen equipment, which was available, nothing has been overlooked. Geoff Amanda and Alex have created a wonderful holiday cottage in a beautiful landscape in the Lake District. Geoff was aware of our daughter’s recent birthday and to our surprise we found birthday cakes on the kitchen table on our arrival. Geoff and his family are committed to protecting the waters of the Lakes and all the cleaning products were eco-friendly, a habit we have bought home with us. There is no doubt that we will want to return one day, hopefully during better weather. Thank you very much Geoff and family for our wonderful stay in your home.

Wonderful Week in the Lake District
Gillbank Cottage is perfect for easy access to Lake Windermere and Lake Coniston, the lovely village of Hawkshead is approx a 20mins walk away (there's a delicious ice cream shop there!) and a short walk up Latterbarrow is directly behind the cottage. The cottage itself is well equipped and very comfortable and provides an excellent base to get out and explore the area. The owner Geoff went out of his way to make us feel welcome, even though due to the covid pandemic he was unable to meet and greet us in person. His communication was excellent and very detailed, with emails, texts and even a phone call to go through all the welcome information whilst we viewed the various photos of the cottage that were emailed through to us. This was our first visit to the Lakes and we loved our time there. It has something for everyone - walks, watersports and so much more. We hope to return again soon.

Excellent stay and location
Lovely week in Ambleside - the cottage has lots of character. In a stunning location with amazing views from both the front and back windows. Great back garden to take in all the scenery and quiet location. Only a 20 minute drive from Ambleside town, and about an hour from Keswick. We went to Coniston quite a lot as Ambleside has become very very busy, whereas Coniston is a bit quieter. Lots of lovely walks around there and watersports on the lake. Great walk up the hill right next to the cottage that gives breathtaking views of Ambleside and Windermere. Overall we had a fantastic time and stay at the cottage. Geoff was fantastic at communicating - we would highly recommend!
