The cottage is as described and we loved the location in the woods, right on Coniston Water. Plenty of space in the cottage for all of us to relax together and cosy with the wood burner. Easy to visit wonderful places round about such as Brantwood (home of John Ruskin) and the Manjushri Buddhist Centre & Temple just outside Ulverston....

As described in the overview Brown Howe is a spacious character stone cottage in a quiet location that can easily accommodate six to eight people. The entrance to the cottage can easily be missed but the owner sends detailed instructions on how to get there. You have easy access to some excellent walks in the Lake District and the local...

Management response:

Thankyou for the very detailed analysis of the cottage. Unfortunately Britannia have ceased stocking spares for the double oven range cooker so we are one hob hotplate down, although there are 4 that do function. A new hobplate or full cooker will be installed soon but the present malfunction shoud not spoil your holiday. There is plenty of remaining capacity....

Brown Howe Cottage was lovely - nicely furnished, plenty of space (and loos!) for 8 adult sized people and the bonus of a garage to keep bikes, wetsuits and walking boots. I'd suggest only taking bikes if you're very fit - there are lots of hills! There is a patio and garden behind the cottage as well as the shared...

Walking, Mountaineering, Cycling:
 Beacon Fell and Beacon Tarn circuit is a walk straight from the house with great views of the lake and the Coniston mountain range.
 Coniston Old Man and Dow Crag are accessible from Torver for high level mountain walking or rock climbing. Drop down to the Sun Hotel in Coniston on the old Walna Scar road for a well earned beer at this very old drovers inn.
 Toad Rock is located in a small quarry some 400m from Brown Howe and is ideal for use by climbers and to teach beginners. And yes, it looks like a toad in the winter when the leaves are gone!
 Parkamoor is a delightful walk or run with stunning views of the lake. (Also a hard mountain bike route). Access is from Nibsthwaite on the east side of the lake. After a steep climb the path follows the...
