In the very heart of Ambleside, Clare Cottage is a traditional 19th century stone built terraced cottage. Clean, spacious and contemporary with 5G broadband, smart TV and Netflix!
Centrally located and yet tucked away on a quiet road, the interior exudes an air of calm even though all the restaurants, shops, bars and cinemas are within a minutes walk from the front door. Once at the cottage you really dont need a car as you can hike from the front door or take a bus to Grasmere, Rydal or Windermere.
The interior is much larger than the photos convey, with a large through living room/dining room, with wood burning stove; a contemporary kitchen fully equipped with integrated dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, microwave and underfloor heating.

The 3 bedrooms are spread over the upper two floors. On the first floor is a double bedroom (with small wall mounted TV) and the main family bathroom (with underfloor heating).
Up a quite narrow and steep staircase to the 2nd floor a large twin bedroom and a double bedroom are located, the double bedroom having its own stylish en suite shower room with walk in shower.
Too many cottage owners in the Lakes make little effort with updating the decor of their holiday homes, relying instead on a large tourist trade. I want to make your holiday special, a treat and so endeavour to provide a beautiful home. It is a perfect retreat for couples, friends and families with older children.

The property has quite steep stairs to the second floor so may be unsuitable for elderly or disabled guests. I have a policy of no children under 12 as the decor is not suited to many young families; white walls, white furniture and glass ornaments throughout. I make occasional exceptions where the family is aware and comfortable with such an environment. I do not allow pets at all.
A weeks let begins on Friday or Monday, short lets run from Friday to Monday or Monday to Friday.
Clare Cottage was very comfortable and spacious. Well equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine/drier. Heating worked well. We did not have much trouble with parking but perhaps were just lucky. It was a good base for exploring the Lakes District. I would have liked more time to just enjoy being at the Cottage! Would happily recommend to others. We had 4 adults staying in 3 bedrooms.

Beautiful, cosy cottage
We were attending my nephew’s wedding and the cottage worked well for this event. Well appointed cottage, conveniently situated to access facilities in and around Ambleside. The cottage is more spacious than it appears, is spotlessly clean and very well equipped, with personal touches which give it a homely feel. Fast and reliable internet connection.Jacqui M was very helpful in answering queries.
Only downside is the parking, particularly when unloading and loading on arrival and departure. The first come first served pass is ok, but space availability on street is rare. We bought 2 seven day parking passes (£35) to avoid parking tickets, the plus side to this was that it gave us access to other car parks around the Lakes.
That been said, we had a wonderful week blessed by amazing weather and I would highly recommend Clare Cottage and would happily rebook.

Lovely quiet accommodation in central Ambleside
We have stayed here a number of times. The cottage has all the facilities we need - perfect for two couples. Comfortable living spaces and spacious bathrooms. Fully equipped kitchen. Parking with the permit is very limited though.

Lovely property in wonderful Ambleside
Clare Cottage is a lovely, spacious, well-equipped property that's furnished to a high standard. There are nice touches that visitors will appreciate such as a really decent kitchen, fast & reliable WiFi, underfloor heating, high quality showers and even the floorboards don't creek!
It is definitely more spacious than it looks in photos, and the central location means all the shops and restaurants are accessible on foot.

Lovely cottage.
We a family of four stayed here for three nights in May. We were attending my son’s wedding. This was a lovely cottage, perfect for our stay. One problem was parking, it was a bit of a nightmare to be honest. My mother in law is 90 and having to drop her off caused a few problems, blocking the road, because there was never a space available in the road. That aside it was a really lovely comfortable cottage.

Fabulous stay in Clare cottage
What a lovely cottage. Very clean and very comfortable in a great location in Ambleside. I would definitely stay again and would highly recommend to others.

Just returned from a fantastic week away in Ambleside.
Clare Cottage is in a fantastic location, no need to use your car. We had no issues parking.
The cottage is much bigger than it appears on the photos and is immaculate, very well equipped, each bedroom even has its own hairdryer.
The cottage has extra precautions in place due to Covid which is very reassuring in the current climate.
I wouldn't hesitate to return the next time we want a break in the lakes.

Great stay at Clare Cottage
We stayed at Clare Cottage for 3 nights. It is very clean and looked after. Central location! My only gripe is parking. Its on a first come first served. It would be better if every cottage on the street was given a space outside to park. We did get a parking ticket as did a friend.

Hi, I’m so sorry to hear you got ticketed. Ambleside is a tricky place for parking, i do provide detailed information about local public car parking just 30 seconds from the front door which is only £15 for 3 days.
Hope it doesnt put you off Ambleside.

Lovely deceptively spacious cottage
Really lovely cottage, very spacious. Beautifully clean and well presented. Great base for walking with the family and is in heart of Ambleside so close to some great pubs and restaurants.

Home from home annual visit
Our friends and I love this cottage. We visit The Lakes every year in March and have stayed in a number of cottages over the last 20 years but this is definitely the best. Lovely living accommodation with everything you need. Comfortable and spacious bedrooms and bathrooms- great showers too. Very clean throughout and a thoughtful welcome gift on arrival.

The cottage could not be more centrally located yet the road is very quiet and away from the traffic. It's an ideal base for those who dont wish to venture far and for those who do.
If you wish to travel up by train to Windermere and get a bus from there to Ambleside, you dont need a car once at the cottage.
Getting around
Windermere is the nearest railway station.
The buses stop just 1 minute from the front door at a location adjacent to King Street Car park (which doubles as the market place on Wednesdays) and from there you can travel North to Grasmere and beyond to Keswick or south back to Windermere and on to Kendal.
