Ambleside, Lake District, Cumbria, England
Our family fell in love with the Lake District on our very first visit. Back then, one of our two children was in a child carrier, while the other was whingeing about having to go for yet another walk. Now seventeen years on, they're both too big to be carried and still whine whenever it is suggested that we go for a walk on the fells.
For a long time we have wanted our own property in the Lake District. Today we are the proud owners of Park Gates Lodge in Ambleside. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
This lovely Victorian cottage was once the home of the gate-keeper of Rydal Hall. Today it belongs to us, and although we shut the gates to keep the sheep out they don't stop the deer, who regularly help themselves to the garden. Scandale beck runs opposite the front of the house, which thanks to James is now complete with a rop...

About the neighborhood
Ambleside is predominately a walking town, complete with all the obligatory camping shops, art galleries, ice cream parlours, cafes, cinemas and pubs: the latter of which are in such abundance that despite visiting the Lakes for 18 years we still haven’t had a pint in all of them. There are also several restaurants, including The Glass House, which featured on Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, now known as The Fulling Mill, which is actually really good! The local hotels provide spa facilities, as well as bike hire, and Lake Windermere offers lots of water sport opportunities which cater to varying moods, ages and energy levels. There are plenty of activities in this area for you, please contact the home owner for further advice.

How to get there
The property is just half a mile from the centre of Ambleside along the A591 Rydal Road, less than 10 minutes walk from the village.
On leaving Ambleside look for the stone pillared ornate wrought iron gates set back from the road - just on the right after Scandale bridge, the cottage is situated just behind these gates on the private lane to Rydal Hall.
More detailed directions from Junction 36 of the M6 are provided at the time of booking.
