Situated between Sandwich and Canterbury, we are ideally placed for visiting this outstanding area of England; along with easy access to ports for trips to France and beyond. Kent International Airport and Dover Docks are 25 minutes away (we are not on the flight path!), and Ashford International Station for Eurostar is around 45 minutes drive.
These two charming cottages nestle in the hamlet of Shatterling, a beautiful part of the county of Kent, within easy reach of Canterbury, (a UNESCO site). Sandwich, described as one of the most complete medieval towns in England is 5 minutes by car, or head out into the beautiful countryside for days spent walking or birdwatching. If history is your thing, the ancient castles of Deal, Walmer, Richborough and Dover are all within easy reach. Other ideas may include a day trip to Paris via Eurostar or ferry to Boulogne and Calais; or stay with these shores and enjoy a day fishing, golfing or a refreshing coastal walk. This is the perfect location for exploring the best that Kent has to offer. Since opening in 2009, we have consistently been awarded 4* Gold award with Visit England. New for this year, Nespresso coffee machine.

Interaction with guests:Â We live on the same site as the cottages, and will be here to greet you personally, and acquaint you with the cottage and surroundings. We are more than happy to have a chat with guests, and equally happy to leave them alone if that's what they want! We have found over the year that many guests have became friends, and we have met some truly lovely people.
Excellent communication and friendly service. Accommodation was lovely and comfortable with everything we needed. Location was great with easy access to Canterbury, Sandwich and the Kent coast.
It was lovely to have outdoor space and we even managed to sit outside on the odd occasion! All in all an excellent stay and we would love to stay again in the future.

An absolute pleasure.
I have no hesitation in recommending Canterbury Cottages. The cottage is delightful, immaculately clean, the garden beautiful and the hosts exceptionally friendly and efficient. I look forward to our next stay there.

A well equiped holiday cottage
We had a very good week. There were lots of things supplied that are not usually supplied in self-catering. The table and chairs outside were welcome as our week was hot and dry. The walk-in shower worked well.

Perfect Stay
Anne and Rob have set up the perfect cottage for a couple who just need a getaway.
The size of the cottage, the provisions, the ambiance - nothing could be faulted. Anne has clearly put thought to what the needs would be and ensured all the things were provided.
Thank you Anne for making our stay there during our first anniversary so lovely and memorable and I look forward to making another trip again and staying at one of your beautiful cottages!

Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay
Loved The Gardener's Cottage. It totally exceeded expectations. The grounds and the property are so well kept and the cottage has everything you could need - it is so well stocked. It was a lovely touch that we were greeted with a little hamper of essentials like bread, eggs, milk as well as some wine and biscuits. The place was immaculate.
Anne was a great host. There if we needed anything but let us be the rest of the time.
The pro's:
- The kitchen was well stocked with everything (utensils, cookware, cutlery, dishwasher etc) you'd need for a stay
- The cottage is perfect for two people - cosy
- Great shower.
- Lovely terrace at the back with garden furniture - a sun trap during the day
- Comfortable bed
- Cosy living area
- Plenty of storage - wardrobe and drawers and could store cases under the bed.
- A 3 minute walk to an organic farmers market which has everything you'd need - local meats, fruits and veg and other groceries.
- the cottage is quiet
- It's a great base to explore the area. It's less than a five minute drive to the gorgeous village of Wingham, a 15 minute drive to Canterbury and is around a 30 minute drive to lovely coastal villages like Sandwich, Deal, Dover and Whitstable
The con's (not big things at all)
- the living, dining and bedroom area is all in the one area so if somebody wants to go to bed and somebody wants to stay up watching TV this could be a problem. Although I had ear plugs and it worked out perfect (and it's no different to staying in a hotel room - actually it's better as there's a wall dividing the room so the bed is a little away from the living area).
- the rental is by the week. I can understand why the rental is for a week but it would be great to have the option of a long weekend etc.
If I was travelling to that region again I would love to stay in the cottage again.

So glad you enjoyed your stay with us! Dover Deal and Whitstable are about 25-30 minutes from us, but Sandwich is about 10 minutes, just down the road. We are so lucky to have the farmer's market within walking distance. We do do shorter lets during the Spring, Autumn and Winter, but in the Summer we find the majority of people are after a week's holiday and a long weekend means it spoils a week. We would love see you both again!

A bijou cottage in a beautiful location
Gardener's Cottage is relatively small but very comfortable, welcoming and well appointed. It is located within the beautiful grounds of the owners' house and to the rear there is a sheltered patio overlooking a lovely garden. Just outside the property are bus stops with busses to the beautiful City of Canterbury or the stunningly attractive town of Sandwich. There is a great deal to see and do in this beautiful part of Kent and the Gardener's Cottage provides the other ingredients of a relaxing and enjoyable holiday - perfect.

Thank you Nick, we always try our best to make our guests as comfortable and relaxed as possible! We are very fortunate to have the bus stops just outside, many of our guests avoid the hassle of finding parking places and expensive parking fees by going by bus.
So glad you enjoyed your "trip down memory lane", Kind regards, Anne

Very nice, clean, cozy, good location if you have a car
Very nice, clean, cozy, good location if you have a car and want to discover Kent and surroundings. The owners are nice and obliging. A bit confusing was to carry and leave the deposit, we are trying to use more credit cards not banknotes (simply it was first time while we are traveling around the UK for the 7 years). May be there where problems before us but OK, the rules are the rules. Anyway the stay was pleasant and discrete. We suggest this experience and suggest this holiday rental to everybody who wants to go to Kent.

Thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to meet you both. The refundable damage/loss deposit is a bit awkward when it comes to changing currencies through the bank. They charge me £15 to refund the deposit, so with overseas visitors, we ask for the deposit in cash. Let's hope the banks reduce this charge! I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.

Perfect stay
We had originally looked at staying in the stables, but when we went to book, only the Gardners cottage was free. It was perfect for us. It has a lovely cosy feel, but with plenty of room. Very clean, every modern convenience and we loved getting to grips with the coffee machine and grinder! Just the thing to set us up for the day. Anne has the knack of thinking of everything you may need...even to the reading glasses in the draw!
Would recommend and location for us was excellent to visit all the sites around. We look forward to a return.

Beautiful and peaceful
We would like to thank Anne and Rob for their warm welcome to the cottage. The cottage is beautiful and set in a very pretty setting. The cottage is well equipped with everything you could need. A modern kitchen, bathroom and a very comfy bed. The cottage is located in the perfect area for access to Dover, Deal, Canterbury etc. We found the area very peaceful and quiet I have to give this cottage 10/10 as it was perfect for us. Once again thanks to Anne and Rob for making our stay perfect.

Ideally situated to visit all that our area has to offer. Dover Castle, Deal Castle, Walmer Castle, all within 20 minutes. The seaside towns of Ramsgate, Margate with the Turner Contemporary Gallery and Dreamland, Broadstairs with Charles Dickens house, Whitstable with it's oysters and great harbour area - (I could go on!) all within 20-30 minutes. Just down the road (3 miles) is Sandwich, a fantastic mediaeval town with the most timber framed building in England. Inland there is Canterbury, the seat of Christianity with it's marvellous cathedral and St Augustine's Abbey. Not to mention Tenterden, Tunbridge Wells, all worth a visit. Sissinghurst and Scotney have wonderful gardens, and there are several large shopping outlets too.
