Management response:

Thanks for the review. We're glad you enjoyed your short midweek break, and managed to play a little volleyball in the indoor pool as well as use the hot tub - ideal if the weather is a little 'changeable'. We hope to see you again sometime.

Had a wonderful but wet weekend at such a lovely property. Great to be away from it all, hot tub was marvellous looking at the stars. All very clean, Peter soo very helpful, we hope to return soon. Just go and enjoy

Management response:

Many thanks for your sweet review. Yes, the weather was grim wasn't it? I just wish I could fix the weather, but at least with an indoor pool guests can have fun undercover - and plan to get wet! For the interest of future guests: Rye has a beautiful, independent 2 x screen cinema, and St Leonard's has an impressive,...

We've just enjoyed an incredible 3 night break at Blackthorn for our anniversary and can't stop talking about it - I want to recommend this place to anyone that will listen! Peter is an excellent host and took really good care of us. Him and Karen have really thought about everything to ensure the most relaxing and enjoyable stay for...

Management response:

Thanks 'TravellinMeg' for such a great plug! I think you've covered everything about staying here, with the exception perhaps of our immediate surroundings: we are fortunate to live in a part of East Sussex that is bursting with things to do and places to visit. Ok, in winter there are less places to visit, but there are still a number...

Additional amenities & feature info
Blackthorn is situated at the end of one wing of the owner's family home but it is totally private and self contained. The property is beautifully furnished throughout. The intimate living room faces south and in the summer months the sun streams in through the full height glazed windows and door that leads out on to the private balcony. In the winter months the living room becomes a cosy bolt hole with its central heating, little wood burner and plentiful supply of logs. The luxurious bedroom features a super king-size double bed and ample wardrobe space. The zip and link bed can be split into a twin if required, but the owners would need prior instructions. The 5 star en-suite has a P bath with a shower over head, and there is also a generous wash hand-basin, as well as a low flush... more

About the neighborhood
Blackthorn is situated halfway between the Old town of Hastings with its tall, black, net huts, and large fleet of fishing boats, quaint streets, and seaside novelties, and the ancient town of Rye full of smuggling history, cobbled streets, and impressive town houses. Both towns have a range of activities throughout the year celebrating various local customs, while closer to home the beautiful town of Winchelsea is overflowing with a unique charm and local history. Icklesham itself is situated along the main A259 - convenient for most destinations, and has two award winning pubs, a good quality farm shop on the outskirts, and a well stocked village shop located on the main road.

The village of Icklesham lies between Hastings to the west, and Rye to the east, and is on the A259 (main holiday route). Watermill Lane is on the south side of the A259 Hastings/Rye road, about half way through the village. The Robin Hood Public House is on its corner. We are the second driveway on the right hand side coming from The Robin Hood - an unmade track leading to Beech House (us) and a smaller, brick built cottage called Roughters Cottage. We are the black timber buildings set back on the right beyond a small car park (and pedestrian gate) that is entirely for your use.
Blackthorn is again on the right opposite the Pool Room.
