Not our first time in St Ives or this property but the first time we stayed for two weeks as opposed to one. St Ives was particularly busy for October, I'm assuming that was down to people having staycations at the moment, however despite this place being only 30 seconds walk from Fore Street, it was so quiet and peaceful. You are so close to all the best beaches and amenities but tucked away in a quiet spot generously lit up by natural light. The apartment has everything you need and one night there was storm and you could hear the waves lashing on Porthmeor Beach whilst I was tucked up secure inside. Derrick, the host is easy to approach and really cares about your stay. Will definitely come again and highly recommend.

Literally perfect holiday cottage- could not ask for more.
I have stayed in this house more than once- why would I book anywhere else! 30 seconds from one of the many many beaches, even less distance from Fore Street and the harbour, and with the bedrooms downstairs it means a cool nights sleep and a sunny morning upstairs from when the day breaks! It has everything you could want- there is a corner seat where you can watch the world go by until it's time to hit the beach and shops, even lots of cooking utensils if you don't feel like going out or like a big breakfast like me. I think the decor is super cool as well, and it was more spotless than most hotels I have been in. Cannot wait for 2022! Very accommodating host also.

Can't wait to come back.....
A quirky, comfortable and well appointed property superbly located very close to Porthmeor Beach and all the best amenities whilst being tucked away enough to guarantee a quiet and relaxed stay. The property has recently had a complete makeover and we particularity liked the master bathroom and its "funky" tiling. The host, Derrick is a pleasure to deal with and really cares about your holiday without being pushy. Not our first stay in the property and hopefully not our last, already planning to book for next year.

Best Location in Town
We have just had another fabulous week in Flipflops and felt very welcome and very safe in St Ives in this extraordinary pandemic year. The house was perfect, comfortable, cosy and spotless with the most helpful owner we've ever come across. Many hospitality professionals could learn a thing or two from this gentleman. Everything you could possibly want for your stay is a minute or two away, shops, restaurants, beaches. Could not recommend more highly.

Superb cottage, very central
Amazing cottage, fabulous location, really central and just perfect for walking to all the sites, restaurants and bars. The host was extremely welcoming, parked in the car park suggested and all in all, had a wonderful stay... just lovely!
No sign of mold mentioned in an earlier review I read...infact, the cottage was clean, tidy and had everything needed for a relaxing and delightful stay. Definitely looking forward to returning again soon !

No parking and damp bedrooms
The good bits first, nice newly refurbished Bathroom and en suite but no heating in the en suite.
As you enter the property the damp/musty smell from the two bedrooms is overwhelming, both bedroom have a damp problem, the walls and ceilings are mouldy and you can see were mould has been wiped off in the past.
The property is advertised with parking, this is very misleading. There is parking for 6 - 8 cars in an adjoining street, that street has 14 properties on it (excluding flip flop), two of the properties are three story B&B.
When we booked it was advertised with Netflixs, when we arrived there was no Netflixs and it had been removed from the web site.
It was all very disappointing, a little bit of honesty about parking and the damp problem would have made a big difference.

So disappointing to read this review. Why use such strong language ? Parking .. I make it clear, and the guest asked prior to booking, that I can not guarantee a space. 'Overwhelming smell'.. really ? The cottage is an old cottage that has been top to bottom refurbished. At great expense. That said, it's over 200 years old. The Netflix issue, hands up, a guest changed the password, I apologise. Anyway, we all have our axe to grind eh ?

We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else!
Just returned from our third stay in this gorgeous house and we miss it so much already. It's location is the best in town with access to all the beaches, shops and restaurants, yet it's peaceful and quiet with no traffic going past. From the upstairs living area you have a view of the quirky cottages of cobbled Bunker's Hill, (all smothered in flowers last week) and beyond, a glimpse of the blue sea and golden sand of the bay. With the windows open you can listen to the chattering of the gulls (the town thugs, but we're oddly fond of them) while knowing you're safe from any sudden swoops!! Comfortable beds, plenty of hot water and a proper teapot, (which you don't find everywhere - it's little things like this that can make all the difference). The period feel has been retained with exposed beams and flagstone floors, but up to date plumbing and decor make it contemporary and comfortable. Derek the owner is very quick to respond to any little issues that arise during your stay and is always friendly and approachable. We 're planning our next stay and already and wish we could go back sooner. Life's better in Flipflops people!!

Downalong is a warren of windy cobbled streets in the (in my opinion) best bit of St Ives. The cottages were mainly fisherman's houses and retain much character. Love lane, Rose Lane, Fish Street ,Teetotal street and even Virgin Street are all nearby street names.
Downalong is mid way between the 3 main beaches and close to the shops, pubs and restaurants.
No arduous walk up the hill after your day in the town or on the beach back to your accommodation if you stay in Downalong !
Getting around
St Ives is a destination in itself and many people stay in the town and area, but if you want to visit other areas in Cornwall there is fairly good train coverage, not too bad a bus service and also the option of organised trips by coach to the bigger attractions.
Access
Car not needed
How to get there
St Ives is easily accessible via the road network and by train. The train from London Paddington is a great way to travel, the train runs along by the sea for much of the last part of the journey from Exeter and if booked in advance is very reasonably priced.
