Being situated between Dovedale and the Manifold Valley and in close proximity to both the Tissington Trail and Manifold Trail there is something for everyone. Other activities nearby include fishing, horseriding, watersports at Carsington Water and family fun at Alton Towers. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Keddleston Hall are all close by and offer an excellent day out.

This is our 2nd stay at Damgate Farm & won’t be the last. This time we stayed in Winnow Nook. A beautifully presented 1 bedroom cottage.
Kitchen/lounge/diner which is very comfortable with central heating & a wood burner if it gets chilly. Separate shower room with lovely big bath sheets & a gorgeous bedroom with 4 poster bed & luxurious bath.
Andrea & John are very welcoming hosts along with the goats, donkeys, sheep, chickens, cats & Bentley the dog.
There are plenty of walks straight from the farm, Dovedale included. This is the perfect place as a base for a fantastic holiday.

A cosy retreat after a day's walking
A pretty 'barn-conversion' property - very comfortable, clean and well-equipped. Top marks for the bed! Andrea made us very welcome, providing milk and also local information. A delightful spot - We were able to do several walks from the property, across country to Dovedale, and to the next village (Wetton) for a pub lunch; we explored Ilam and the Manifold Valley - all within easy reach. Four days were not enough in this lovely spot - we hope to return.

Lovely stay
My wife and I decided to spend 7 nights in Winnow Nook, and we found it to be extremely clean and comfortable. The COVID secure methods in place were highly effective. We were quite worried about this initially given my wife is pregnant, but there were no issues at all. There’s lots to do with some beautiful walks straight out of the property. Would absolutely recommend.

Perfect! Would definitely recommend!
We are a young couple and decided to stay in the nook for a long weekend. It was the perfect way to get away from everything thats going on at the moment. Winnow nook cottage was perfect! Ideal for anything from a qyick weekend getaway to something more special and romantic.
Furnished and kept lovely and clean and tidy. Cant really fault anything. Will definitely return in the future.

Cosy cottage, perfect retreat in the storm
The cottage has been beautifully converted with everything you might need for a cosy stay.
Andrea was brilliant and checked in on us at the start of our stay, when we had a minor problem with the door (no fault of theirs) was very helpful to get it sorted.
The pygmy goats were adorable and loved getting their heads scratched.
The location of the farm buildings was great, there is plenty of walking from the doorstep and a lovely walk to the village of Alstonefield (with an amazing pub!)

Winnow nook
Winnow nook is a lovely cottage. Andrea very pleasant host. We arrived about 9pm and the cottage was lovely and warm. The cottage is perfect for 2, all amenities, cooking utensils etc in cottage and spotlessly clean. Bed very comfortable. Beautiful location, very quiet and perfect for walking or just total relaxation. Would 100% recommend and re-visit for a stay.

Winnow Nook
We visited Winnow Nook for New Year and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The facilities were exceptional and Andrea and John couldn’t have been more helpful. We were greeted by cows at the living room window on arrival which was such a lovely welcome and very fitting to the beautiful surroundings. We would definitely love to stay again.

Perfect Peak property to escape from it all
We had a super two-night Autumnal stay in Winnow Nook. The property is in a brilliant location, close to Ilam, Dovedale and Ashbourne but yet also secluded - you can feel like you're in the middle of nowhere surrounded by rolling hills! We loved being on the farm and in close proximity to the goats, sheep and cattle. The donkeys were a highlight. The Nook is cosy, comfortable and spotlessly clean. On the evening we had dinner booked at a local pub we didn't want to leave! Andrea is a friendly host. We'll definitely look to return.

Lovely, clean, excellent location
Winnow Nook was an absolutely wonderful place to stay. Ideally located for visiting all parts of the Peak District, we had fantastic adventures from this great base. Andrea was great at being in contact before our arrival and we felt at home from the start of the stay with a beautiful Lemon Drizzle cake waiting for us.
The decor is modern, classy and clean. The self-catering facilities were brilliant and the four poster bed was very comfy. The highlight of the place is definitely the free-standing bath - a real luxury. The wi-fi connection was great (so I could watch the football!) and access to a DVD player meant we had some nice cozy nights in.
The goats and hens around made it feel like a proper country getaway and I would not hesitate recommending it as a place to stay to anyone and we would definitely stay again ourselves.

Cosy rural escape
We had a wonderful, relaxing three days at Winnow Nook. Hidden away in the Derbyshire dales with fantastic walks on the doorstep, the perfect spot for getting some country air and cosy evenings in front of the wood-burner. Would recommend The George in Alstonefield and the village stores in Hartington.

Ashbourne is one of Derbyshires oldest market towns combining historic buildings with a wealth of high quality shops. Lying in a stunningly beautiful valley on the southern edge of the Peak District, the town offers a fabulous selection of independent stores, stylish boutiques and many antique shops. The town is compact and easily walkable with a selection of restaurants, tea rooms and family friendly pubs. The cobbled market place hosts two weekly traditional markets on Thursday and Saturday.
