La Maison de Lacamp is a newly-renovated, stone-built eighteenth century village house over three levels. With exterior walls a metre thick, it is cool in summer and cosy in winter. It has a stylish kitchen with top of the range appliances, a seating area and wood-burning stove, and separate dining room on the ground floor, a spacious living room, bedroom and bathroom on the first floor, a main bedroom and ensuite shower room in local stone on the second floor, as well as a summer kitchen in red marble, and access to a roof terrace with fabulous views of the surrounding hills. There is an internet connection and wi-fi. You have access to a garden shaded by fig trees 50 metres from the house, with a barbecue and table and chairs (paddling pool for infants available).

Enjoy swimming in the lake, just a few minutes' d... Surrounded by beauty. Set amongst a countryside of limestone scarps and herbaceous shrubs (wild thyme everywhere) we enjoyed daily strolls around the village, through farms and past ruins. Excursions included historic Carcassonne with its excellent markets, and fresh seafood on the Mediterranean Coast only an hour and a half drive away. I found villagers really friendly and patient with my language difficulty.
My favorite indulgence was close to home- the exquisite pastries and bread delivered through the village every morning, heaven!

About the neighborhood
The Aude is famous for Carcassonne's Cité - a World Heritage Site, and the largest fortified city in Europe - the seventeenth-century Canal du Midi (also a World Heritage Site) and unforgettable Cathar castles. The house is just twenty minutes from the medieval centre of Lagrasse, famous for its Benedictine abbey and the beauty of its historic streets and setting. Yet much of the magic is in the landscape on your doorstep, in the rocky hills and aromatic brush of the garrigue, in oak and chestnut forests, and in obscure old stone villages.

Many towns have great markets and restaurants, and there's a wealth of fine local honey, cheese, wine, and other produce to sample. The house is just over an hour from the Mediterranean - via a relaxing backroads route - or swim in the lake jus...
