Sunnydell Cottage, New Forest Escapes. Sunnydell is a family friendly holiday cottage deep in the New Forest in Burley with a swimming pool. This perky and quirky house is old and full of character with low ceilings making it cosy. It sleeps up to 8 with good downstairs sleeping options so it is particularly well-designed for VIP birthdays and those with little ones.

The separate stables include an office and a playroom full of toys.

The house can be rented on its own for a lower occupancy rate. The pool is heated from May to the end of September. You’ll find the cottage in a large clearing among ancient trees. The Cottage Downstairs. The kitchen here is built for families to chat, play games and spend time around the big kitchen table, which seats 6-8. Some groups may need to do two meal sittings. In summer there is a picnic table just through the double doors. There is a modern wood burner here to heat you up on cold nights and the kitchen is well set up for cooks. There are masses of cupboards for storage and two fridges. You’ll also be helped out by a Bosch dishwasher and a Zanussi cooker (gas with an electric oven). There’s also an under-counter fridge. The newly renovated kitchen room faces the Stables building and there is a clear line of sight to the office and two playrooms across the lawns. The sitting room is in the oldest part of the house and has low ceilings typical of old New Forest cottages. The fireplace and wood burner dominate the room which has a clever glassy alcove mini-library too. Furthest from the kitchen, through the sitting room, you’ll find a compact double room with ensuite shower and toilet(no door). The bed is 4″6 so not the biggest but it’s a lovely room with double doors onto a garden terrace, which is a good sun trap and perfect for reading and resting quietly away from the pool. Upstairs you’ll find a small and bright double room in the rafters. There is minimal clothes storage space here. Next door is a twin room. In the Stables Just across the lawn (by about 20 metres) are the stables, recently total renovated in oak. There is an office/reading/music room, which has full length bi-fold doors and looks onto the lawns facing the house. This room is perfect for spa treatments. There is a playroom with teepee and toys for smaller kids. The latter also has full length bi-folds and a good bathroom which can also be used as a shower/change room for the pool. The site is a quarter of an acre and mostly set to lawn. There are a couple of apple trees to provide shade by the pool. Children will love to play games with each other, or tuck away around corners and escape. The lawn is flat and good for badminton which we provide.More

Nice cottage with a pool pity it was not heated as promised. Ideal for large parties as there was 10 of us. Within walking distance of Burley village, about a 10 minute walk. Garden in need of attention looked uncared for, grass not cut. Ponies...More

We read your review with mixed feelings. We try so hard with the houses we have but sometimes things are not as perfect as they might be. The situation with the pool was that the water level had dropped, so that the pump stopped working....More

About the neighborhood
Sunnydell is in Burley village very close to the golf course through the forest. Burley is famed for its witches, smuggling and dragons. During the late 1950’s a famous ‘White’ witch named Sybil Leek lived here. She used to walk around the village in a long, black cloak with her pet jackdaw on her shoulder. Unfortunately, because her attire fitted the image of a wicked ‘black’ witch, the locals were upset by her presence and she decided to live in America where she continued writing many books on the occult and astrology, including “Diary of a Witch”. One of the gift shops was named by her and has her picture hanging by the old Jacobean fireplace inside. The village hosts a fairy festival each year in mid August. The locals tell me it’s perfect for watching plenty of strange fancy-dress ...
