Great stay, but a few points for some people
Firstly, the cottage us lovely, great location to relax and enjoy some great walks. Facilities are excellent and the owner is very quick to respond if you have any issues. Local eateries are very recommended. Just a few poi ts for future visitors. Please be careful when replacing the key into the outside key holder. When we arrived, we were unable to gain access to the key. Fortunately, we caught the cleaner whe gave us the side door key so problem resolved quickly. Was able to speak to Jonathan, the owner, but all was fine as inside, was the other required key for the conservatory. There is a small difference in hight between the Kitchen floor, and the enterence way. This caught my Wife and I out a few times, as we both tripped/ caught our feet. Something create a slope rather than step would be useful. If you are a bit unsteady on your feet, as we both are. Be aware of the steep and reletivly small stairs. We did struggle a bit to go up and down. However, saying all of the above, we did have a lovely time, and we inte d to visit again.

Thank you for your review. We very much welcome your feedback. With regards to your comments about the step in the kitchen and the stairs, Maytime Cottage is over 150 years old and it is typical of a property of that vintage. There is a paragraph in the 'about the property' section of our listing which describes the features of the cottage and suggests that anybody who needs further access information contacts us to ascertain whether it is suitable for their needs. I'm very glad though, that overall you enjoyed your stay, and would consider visiting again.

Beautiful & relaxing
Just got back from a week at Maytime Cottage. What a beautiful place set in gorgeous countryside. We had been given all the information we needed from the owner before arrival so everything went very smoothly. The cottage is lovely with everything you could want to make your holiday chilled supplied for you from the owner. Staying here we visited the whole Island, and what a beautiful Island it is. We will miss those views and the stars at night. Can't wait to return.

Another fantastic week!
Another glorious week enjoyed at Maytime Cottage! It is so spacious yet cosy and comfortable and the newly refurbished kitchen and upstairs bathroom look amazing. We enjoyed lots of walks and took our bicycles to venture along the Red Squirrel Cycle Track (the disused railway line) actually seeing the cute red squirrels and this year we saw storks! Last year in October we were lucky enough to see sea eagles at Newtown nature reserve (booked on the guided walk) and this year we saw lots of golden plovers, etc there. The cottage benefits from being in a rural location and yet we found everywhere we wanted to go on the island very accessible. It was great to eat in and enjoy the log burner but there are lots of great places to eat eg Piano café at Freshwater for coffee/breakfast (and then walk to The Tennyson Monument and The Needles), The Hut in Colwell Bay (we love the vibe and the Sunday roast- must book in advance) and Number 3 in Cowes. Also had a great comedy night at Quay Arts in Newport and bought fresh marmalades and produce from the next door neighbour. We love it and will be back again!

Beautiful cottage
Maytime is a beautiful very big and spacious cottage. Enclosed garden is safe for a dog and great place to relax. Owners are easy to contact and respond immediately if there are any issues. The place could maybe be a bit cleaner but it's definitely worth recommending and we'll book our stay there again.

Thanks very much for your review. Could you drop me a line to let me know what specifically wasn't as clean as you would have hoped? We are keen to make sure everything is as clean as possible for each party, so it would be very useful to know what wasn't up to scratch.

Spacious accommodation in quiet rural setting
We were very happy with our choice of Maytime Cottage for a one week stay on the Isle of Wight, and from the vistors' book it is apparent that many guests return time after time (many reporting their fourth visit, which on the face of it is a strong recommendation in itself). We chose it because it was in an attractive rural location yet convenient for access to all parts of the island; the price which seemed reasonable and is discounted for occupancy by just two people (a novel idea which other landlords of larger properties might do well to consider); and the fact that we will only entertain properties with twin beds (which is why we often need to go for a two-bedded property as smaller properties invariably only have a standard double bed). Having now returned home I can confirm that the description and photographs fairly represent the offer (NB The beds are currently arranged slightly differently such that the bunk beds are now in the back room on their own, and the middle room has the two single beds with plenty of room between to swing the proverbial cat). Carpeting throughout was in excellent condition and the kitchen generally was well equipped. I particularly liked the light and airey 'garden' room at the rear - effectively a second lounge - with adjacent downstairs shower room with WC off a very spacious lobby, which meant there was ample space for us and plenty of room for two couples or a larger family. There is parking two cars lengthways (reverse in and emerge very carefully!), and the local pub suited our subsistence requirements admirably. So much for the property itself - what about the owner (who lives on the mainland and engages a local housekeeper)? Well, suffice to say we found him very helpful and responsive to queries and any matters arising. Booking documention was clear and the security deposit returned in a timely manner. In summary, if this is the sort of property you're looking for then go ahead and book it with confidence. Everyone will have their own views on points of detail but all-in-all I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Comfortable, spacious, pet friendly cottage in beautiful location.
Plenty of room to spread out. Large enclosed garden. Beautiful countryside views. Decor was a little tired and dated, but this is the Isle of Wight! If it was more modern it may have detracted from the cottage charm. As with any where in the Isle of Wight you are close to lots of attractions. Great time had by all the family.

Thank you for your comments, and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, despite experiencing some un-summery weather during your week! Sorry you found the decor not up to expectations, but I'd like to reassure you that we do regularly have the cottage redecorated. Last winter we had 2 downstairs rooms repainted, all new carpets downstairs, as well as 2 new sofas. Later this Autumn/Winter we will be re-carpeting and repainting the upstairs.

Lovely house in a great location.
Maytime Cottage was the perfect base for our Isle Of Wight holiday. We know the island quite well and knew that Ventnor would be a great place from which to explore the island and were originally looking for a place in the town. However, when we saw Maytime Cottage online we knew it was the place for us. Happily, the pictures were a true reflection of the quality and charm of the cottage and the location – around only 4 miles from the centre of Ventnor – worked out really well for us. Set amongst rolling hills and twisting country roads, Maytime Cottage is in a beautiful location and what you lose from not being in a town location you more than gain in bucolic views and a peaceful environment. Another advantage is that it’s so convenient to explore the island; 10 minutes from Ventnor and Godshill, 20 from Newport and Shanklin and 40 from The Needles. The house has pretty much everything and was comfortable and spacious for a family of four. When you rent a holiday home it’s often the little things that can make the difference and Maytime Cottage covers all the bases including excellent Wi-Fi – something that can’t be said of many places we have stayed and an absolute essential with two children in our party. Around the island there is so much to do. If you have younger children I would recommend Black Gang Chine amusement park. Ventnor is a charming Victorian town with a decent selection of shops (Morrison’s in Newport is the closest large supermarket), places to eat and small beach. Ventnor is also home to the Botanic Garden which is well worth a visit. Shanklin and Sandown offer larger beaches and more facilities you would expect from a British seaside resort (golfers should check out Brown’s pitch and putt and budding palaeontologists will enjoy Dinosaur Isle – both in Sandown). The Needles was probably the highlight of our trip; a precipitous ski-lift down to the beach followed by a speed-boat trip around the Needles was great fun and there is plenty to do in the main park area, including cliff walks with stunning views. I’ll finish with a tip: before you go to the island make sure you download the paybyphone app on your smart-phone and register your credit card and car’s details. Unless you plan to carry a lot of coins with you using this app is by far the easiest way to pay for parking on the island. You can pay by the hour or day but note that you use a different location code for hourly or daily parking (location codes are displayed on the parking machines).
