Only 2 miles to stunning national trust coastline and swimming beaches. A perfect base to explore the beautiful Isle of Wight. 5 star reviews on Trip advisor. Ferry discounts available. The Bakehouse, Hedgerow and Fossil Cottage are one bedroom cottages in an idyllic rural location which is quiet and peaceful in the midst of secluded South Isle of Wight countryside, two miles from the coast and 5 minutes walk from The White Horse Inn, a quality Island dining pub. There are spectacular views of the downs from all around the cottage, with beautiful sunsets. In the fields are dairy cows, a stream, hawthorn hedges and plenty of wildlife. The cottage is excellently situated for walking, cycling and fishing and romantic breaks. There is easy access on to the footpaths directly outside the cottage which join the extensive Stenbury and Worsley trails near Appuldurcombe, or the west wight coastal paths, all providing panoramic views. At close by Nettlecombe Farm (short footpath walk) there are three well stocked fishing lakes (permits available). A five minute walk leads to historic Whitwell village and dining pub. The White Horse pub is very popular for meals and there is an attractive 700-year old church. Close by is Niton village with post office, food shops and beautiful St Catherine’s Lighthouse. Under ten minutes by car is the pretty Victorian seaside town of Ventnor with its own micro climate offering sandy beaches, sub-tropical botanic gardens and local ale. You can also walk to Ventnor using public footpaths leading straight from the house with spectacular views. This is an original island stone cottage at the end of three adjoining cottages which are several hundred years old. Restored by National Trust builders, this lovely cottage is tastefully decorated and furnished. You enter into an attractive kitchen with tiled floor, leading on to a pleasant sitting room with a television/DVD and sofa. The kitchen is well-equipped with fitted units, electric oven and hob, microwave, refrigerator with freezer section and washer machine. Upstairs is an attractive double bedroom and separate bathroom with a bath and excellent overhead shower. At both the rear and the front of the cottage are table and chairs to make most of the early morning and evening sun. Breakfast on the rear patio and a glass of wine at sunset at the front of the property. A car may be parked beside the cottages. Please note access to the cottage is over the fields along a well maintained gravel farm track. The village may be accessed back along the farm track or by public footpath taking approx 5 minute.

The most idyllic setting for a peaceful break
As you turn off the road onto the track and see the cottages set so far back across the fields, you know it's going to be the most peaceful place in the world. You wake up to song birds, there are rabbits skittering about outside the gate, and cows meandering across the fields. The only "traffic noise" is if one of the occupants of the 3 neighbouring cottages comes back at the end of the day. Surrounded by stunning countryside, and beautiful villages with lots of walks for those that way inclined. The property itself has obviously been lovingly transformed to a very high standard, and nothing is too much trouble for your hosts (we asked for lighter weight bedding when the temperature soared, and it was with us within the hour). What a beautiful place to stay. Highly recommend.

ABSOLUTE PERFECTION IF YOU DESIRE PEACE AND QUIET
My partner and I had the most incredible time staying here for 4 nights, the initial route to it is as described a farm track so depending on the time of year expect a muddy car and to drive very slowly once off the main road and on the track. This really is not an issue though if you just drive as you should for the conditions. We got there in the total pitch black (this is an area of reduced light pollution) and so at first were unaware of the surrounding scenery or even the building apart from what the car lights highlighted although it was very clear that we were fairly remote which what we love best. We entered the cottage and were immediately impressed by the brilliant interior decor which looks like it was created by an interior furnishing designer. The place was lovely and warm and welcoming and impeccably clean, we are fanatical about cleanliness and this place was 100% in every room, my partner was absolutely delighted, it was better than I could have hoped for. In the morning we saw the bedroom in the daylight following an extremely peaceful and very comfortable nights sleep. We opened the bedroom curtains which look across the fields and route that you drive along the track on and I can imagine how lovely it would be in the Spring and Summer. Following using the excellent shower and bathroom facilities we had breakfast in the enclosed back garden, in fine weather the front area with the benches must be a perfect place to eat and relax. We then went for a walk and there are plenty to do from this location and very easy for someone who likes walking to get to the beaches if they want and a beautiful area to walk around. We were using this place as a base to visit a relative and other places on the island, it may look like its far South of the island but given how diminutive the Isle Of Wight is it is very easy to get anywhere in both a short distance and time. We visited many fantastic places the one which surprised me most was Osborne house. I am no Royalist at all BUT this place was stunning and the surrounding gardens, woodland and beach area just wonderful and we will be back there next time. Steephill cove was another big surprise and a brilliant walk there and back to name just two of a number of p[laces we visied. We stayed whilst a huge storm was coming across from the USA and the Bake house stayed quiet and warm throughout which was very welcome after long walks in torrential rain with howling wind gusts. I have the chance to stay in a couple of other places on the island but have decided not to as will be using this cottage again as me and my partner enjoyed it so much, next time in the Spring / Summer. Oh also Ventnor whilst a town and not our sort of place it had an excellent Chinese restaurant called 'New China House' the food was very high quality, generous and superb service from the staff.

Wow! What a location! A superbly presented and cosy cottage situated in the heart of Whitwell's unspoilt countryside. With lovely facilities, a very comfortable bed and wonderful views, we had a delighful stay and will definitely be back again.
