The accommodation is located in the same street as the Aragonese Castle and the Arab cuba and a few steps away from the main square Fonte Diana, the Foundation "Gesualdo Bufalino", the Civic Museum of Natural History, the cathedral and the oldest churches. An ideal destination to start or finish the Baroque tour of the Val di Noto between culture, sea and good food, from Comiso you can easily reach the main Unesco sites of Ragusa Ibla (21 km), Modica (31 km), Scicli (39 km) , Noto (76 Km) and Siracusa (119 Km) and the most famous seaside destinations of Marina di Ragusa (25 km) and Punta Secca (22 Km) where the house of the commissioner Montalbano is in the television fiction. Comiso is a literary and art place par excellence. Its historic center is a riot of architectural styles and soaring perspectives of churches and palaces that intertwine according to the models of the late Baroque, neoclassical or liberty. The blond of the local limestone and the local people also make Comiso the "special country" described by Gesualdo Bufalino: "not only because an unexpected gift of urbanity and irony is waiting for you", but because it will be possible to grasp the true essence of Sicily that still resists and spoils "of some trace of mimes brancatiani and humors lampedusei". A place dedicated to art and literature. Here the writer Gesulado Bufalino and the versatile artist Salvatore Fiume were born. And here, too, my brother and I grew up among the balls of alleys and the rooftops that touch each other and in the shadows of a door, which takes its name perhaps from the metathesis of the Hipparis river or perhaps from the ancient presence of pear trees and between the places and characters of the memory of Bufalini. Here our performance took place. Under this door I saw the histrionic characters of the "Pero" portrayed in the Museum of Shadows (the Onesta, "u caliaru", the "Papuni" direct descendants of Turi of the famous "sciuta", etc.), and the great writers like Bufalino, in his usual daily walks, Leonardo Sciascia and all the other writers, artists and journalists who came to visit him in Comiso immortalized in the book "The years of Sciascia and Bufalino" published in 2001 by the publishing group Kalos. And to revive the cultural ferment of those 80s, a bulletin board was set up with books by Gesualdo Bufalino and on Comiso and a literary quote by the famous writer on the Pero district was reported: < <Un gomitolo di vicoli; tetti che si toccano e nascondono il cielo; case di una sola stanza dove la porta è insieme ingresso e finestra; e davanti a ogni soglia stie col fondo coperto di zàcchere secche; e grappoli di donne, coi folti capelli neri raccolti a crocchia sulla nuca, attorno a un merciaiuolo ambulante o a un leggi ventura; e gatti, capre, mule, galline in tranquillo congresso, in mezzo alla strada; e un bambino vestito di niente, gloriosamente accovacciato sotto una pergola di gelsomino> > (Museo d'ombre, 1982). The room is designed as a home gallery, set up with works by well-known local artists such as Salvo Catania Zingali who lives and works in his studio a few steps from the holiday homes or Emanuele Pace who has portrayed the most beautiful views of the Pero district as the homonymous Porta Urbica with a pointed arch and the suggestive view of via Sardegna with via Piemonte, where in the last house on the right of the picture he painted the young talent Luigi Rabbito who tragically passed away in 2011. This is our mission, to give visitors an experience of authentic stay without giving up all the comforts of a holiday. A philosophy of hospitality that wants visitors to grasp the meaning of the place through the history of the characters of the ancient Pero district mentioned by Gesualdo Bufalino in "Museo d'ombre" (1982), their crafts, their uses and customs and the most significant anecdotes intertwined with the historical, artistic and literary events of Comiso and with the local craft, food and wine and wine tradition.More

About the neighborhood
The structure is immersed in the “Pero” district in the center of a significant area from the historical and monumental point of view thanks to the presence of the homonymous gateway to the medieval city, the Aragonese Castle, the Arab Cuba and the most ancient churches of San Biagio and della Misericordia. The Porta del Pero, with a pointed arch, was built by the Byzantine government between the 7th and 8th centuries when the walls of Roman origin were completed due to the frequent Islamic incursions. Its construction was entrusted to the Dalmatian forts who settled here together with a Jewish-Israelite colony and founded the first abbeys of Abraxia (now S. Biagio) and S. Nicola (Basilica of MSS dell'Annunziata).
Getting around
The "Porta del Pero" holiday homes are located in a strategic position to visit Comiso. And to easily reach the main Unesco sites of Val di Noto such as Scicli and Modica in 30/40 minutes by car and Ragusa Ibla in 20 minutes seaside destinations of Marina di Ragusa and Punta Secca known for the home of Commissioner Montalbano in television fiction.
