Birthday weekend
I booked Great Coombe for a long weekend to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday with our family. 8 adults and 1 toddler.
The cottage was exactly what we needed.
The downstairs bedroom was huge so plenty of room for the cot.
The lounge area had 3 large sofas and still had plenty of room for our grandson to play in the toy car from the games room.
All the bedrooms were comfy, only one small niggle, the shower in the main bathroom is a short one to be used when in the bath, you can't use it standing up. But there was the huge wet room downstairs with a walk in shower and the en-suite shower in the balcony bedroom so it wasn't a problem for a short stay.
We really enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as complete darkness at night, no street lights!
Nicola's welcome cake was amazing too.

Fantastic retreat
Beautiful cottage with wonderful views. Could not fault the cottage, had everything we needed and more. Kids loved the games room. Shame we didn’t get to see the hide as it was raining and muddy. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for a lovely week at your beautiful cottage.

Wonderful, peaceful, relaxing stay
Fabulous!
Wonderfully sited, peaceful and tranquil. Excellent for nature lovers. Great facilities - all needs catered for with downstairs bedroom and wet room. All mod cons and everything you need. Quality fixtures and fittings. Games room was a hit with children and adults alike.
Can't recommend highly enough!
Thank you for a fantastic family holiday. (I didn't want to go home!)

What a fabulous place
Just spent family weekend with 8 of us at Great Coombe. Fabulous place with amazing views..
Everything you could think of in the cottage with lovely bedding and towels and the furnishing throughout were lovely and homely. The whole place was spotlessly clean. Kitchen although small was very well equipped and a vase of fresh flowers in the table was a lovely touch.
We were all going to a wedding on the Saturday near Sherbourne so it was well
located and although we spent time at Lulworth on the Sunday we all felt more like
staying in and just enjoying the cottage.
Cannot find any fault and would highly recommend a stay here especially if a large group. The huge living room with fabulous views is a pleasure to be in and the log burner a bonus.
Wishes we had stayed longer and would definitely go back.

Great stay at Great Coombe
Stayed at Great Coombe for a long weekend in a group of 5 people. One of our group has limited mobility so the ground floor bedroom with en-suite wet room was ideal.
The house has everything we needed, great views over wonderful countryside. Very quiet location with only the other visitors in sight.

Perfect
Stayed here for 3 nights with the extended family for my Mum's 70th birthday and wished it had been longer.
The cottage itself is full of character and is decorated to the highest standard. The kitchen has everything you could need. We loved the big lounge area where we could all gather in front of the log burner in the evening. I quite liked that the WiFi was only in the games room next door as it stopped us having our heads in our phones all weekend. The games room was popular for the pool and table tennis.
The views are spectacular over the fields and woodland and the hide is just wonderful. The kids loved all the interesting stuff on birds and wildlife and we were lucky enough to see a woodpecker (Great Spotted I think) in the evening and following morning.
There are some lovely walks from the cottage but check the opening times of the pubs - they are very short in winter.

Over and above the call of self catering
Eight of us stayed in Great Coombe at Bookham Court for a week at Whitsun. It is tucked away down a lane and we found it hard to find the first time. Country miles are deceptive. Once there we were blown away by it all. The location is stunning with views across wooded hills for miles. The barn conversion has been sympathetically done and includes all mod cons. Under floor heating and a heat exchanger kept the temperature throughout the whole place at a very comfortable level 24/7. The weather was grey and chilly in the evenings so we lit the wood burner - just for effect really - very cosy.
The beds were very comfortable and all linen of good quality. Everything was there that you could possibly need including a games room and a "nature watch hide". We saw Barn Owl chicks, a fox, two badgers and many species of birds. We walked the farm and met the cows and horses.
There are some good pubs close by (not walking distance) and plenty of places to visit, although the barn is so lovely it is hard to leave it. Nicola is always close by to sort out any problems you may have, we had none , but still enjoyed a chat.
We all had a wonderful week and didn't want to leave.

Superb cottage with all needs catered for in a great location.
My family stayed at the cottage for my birthday. The decoration and upkeep is excellent. Lots of places to eat in nearby villages. Great location. Would recommend it highly.

Bookham is a tranquil hamlet where you will only be woken by birds singing. Buckland Newton, a mile away has a fantastic village shop, selling local produce and papers. The Gaggle of Geese public house is popular with locals and visitors alike, with the chef cooking good value home cooked pub food. Within 4 miles there are several other very good eating establishments.
The historic towns of Dorchester and Sherborne are within 10 miles with castles, abbeys and individual shops to explore.
Weymouth and the coast is an half an hour drive with many attractions for all ages, ie Abbotsbury Gardens, swannery and smugglers barn.

How to get there
Great Coombe is situated 10 miles north of Dorchester and 10 miles south of Sherborne. From the south, turn right off the B3143 about half a mile out of Alton Pancras, at the Booham Court sign. Carry on up the hill and down the other side, turn right at the bottom of the hill. Great Coombe is the left hand side of the barn.
