Rental Home
This is a fully renovated farmhouse on 10 acres of land, including 1200 feet of riverfront along the Maitland River. We bought it 7 years ago when we wanted a fun alternative to the traditional Ontario cottage on a lake (which took too much driving time for us). What we found is a slice of life in an everyday agricultural country setting, including many old order Mennonite farms. Our property has an acre of lawn around the house where there is lots of room for lawn games and campfires. The rest of our 10 acres is a planted stand of white pine. There is also a restored post & beam outbuilding we call the 'Little Barn', which is like a large screened in porch overlooking the river. Very comfortable for reading, looking for shore birds and watching the beautiful sunsets in the west. ...This is a fully renovated farmhouse on 10 acres of land, including 1200 feet of riverfront along the Maitland River. Very comfortable for reading, looking for shore birds and watching the beautiful sunsets in the west. Overall you will find the area quiet and restful. There are lovely country walks, kayaking or canoeing on the river and fishing (though water levels vary). The river is not suitable for swimming. We keep a good selection of DVDs and games on hand. The town of Wingham is a 10 minute car drive away, where you will find grocery stores, restaurants and service stations. A 40 minute drive west brings you to the interesting town of Goderich or the Lake Huron beaches of Point Clark. As well there are many destinations in the area -- from antique shops to museums to mammoth ice cream cone retailers. If you want to get out and see things, there is lots to do! But you can also find quiet days looking over the river and fields, doing as little as you care to.More

About the neighborhood
We are on a gravel side-road and almost all the properties here are traditional family farms. There are a number of old order Mennonite farms and buggies along the road are as common as cars. Roadside vegetable huts are plentiful. The landscape is rolling hills and woodlots. The town of Wingham is home for 3,000 residents. It has fast food (Tim's, KFC, etc), local restaurants, 2 grocery stores, pharmacies and various retailers. The town of Blyth is less than 30 minutes away and boasts a well- known local theatre company as well as a destination craft brewery (Cowbell Brewing). Heading over to Lake Huron makes a great day trip to see the beaches, the lovely town square of Goderich or excellent museums in Goderich and Southhampton.
Getting around
You will need a car to get to town and other destinations. We have lots of parking space on a large circular drive.
