If you are fortunate enough to arrive very early in the morning and walk to the front of the Villa, you will see the day star hanging like a brilliant jewel over the shining crown of the main gazebo and soon the first rays of the sun shooting across the immense stillness of the Java Sea where only a few ancient Balinese fishing boats chug on the quiet water like some insects skimming on a blue pool.
And soon fishermen will wade in the ocean and slowly pull their nets out of the water while old women will sit on the beach, murmuring around a dying fire. And soon the rays of the rising sun will bathe the foothills of the northern Balinese mountains in red and gold—and a typical Mentari day will have begun.
Villa Mentari is by far the largest and most impressive private villa in the North. It has number of features and advantages that should be emphasized. First, the villa offers not only unparalleled views of the Bali Sea even from the master bedroom, but also views of the Kalianget River and the northern foothills and mountains. Second, the villa has a tennis court and a golf driving range, which represent an unusual combination of attractions for any villa. Third, the villa has one of the largest infinity pools of any private villas in Bali: 20mx9m. Fourth, the villa has two Jacuzzis: one next to the pool and another in the en-suite bathroom of the master bedroom. Fifth, the villa boasts three gazebos, one of which is specially equipped for massages. Sixth, the main house has a Bose sound system with speakers throughout the house and in the garden. Finally, Mentari has a generator which can be switched on if there are problems with the electricity supply from the PLN.
The guests have access to the main house and bungalow. The huge main house (1,100 m2) has two floors with four bedrooms, providing accommodation for a private party of eight persons comfortably. The spacious master bedroom, which overlooks the Bali Sea and has a Jacuzzi in the en-suite bathroom, is on the ground floor. There are also two additional bedrooms with bathrooms en suite. The open living and dining area (about 195 m2), is air-conditioned and includes a grand piano. There is a large fully equipped modern kitchen, a temperature-controlled wine storage room and an extra bathroom in the entryway. The top floor has an office with computer and internet connection and a printer as well as a library. Adjacent to the office is the fourth bedroom that enjoys garden and ocean views. In addition, there is a bungalow (150 m2) with a living room and kitchen on the ground floor and two air-conditioned bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms on the first floor.
The place offered by Claude is truly stunning. The villa is a beautiful, modern house, surrounded by well-kept garden, full of exotic trees, a paradise to me. The staff working at the villa is a team of great people. They make you feel like at home, or, I should say - like in a five-star hotel! Three ladies - cooks and maid - kept the villa clean each day and prepared traditional meals for us. The gardener keeps the area safe at night and drivers are there whenever you need them to take you for a trip. The villa manager is an amazing guy. He takes care of everything - from shopping to organizing trips and he is as a great source of knowledge about Bali, the local customs, politics, religion - everything. The villa is located in a private location, offering space to relax in the surrounding of nature. It is close to Seririt and Lovina, it takes a few moments to get you to nearest restaurants. The nearest white-sand beach is about 1.5 h away, in Menjangan (most of the beaches in north Bali are dark-sand, since it is the volcanic island). Singharaja - the 'capital' of the region is about 40 mins by car. If you are a fan of diving, we recommend a trip to Tulamben, when you can dive at the USS Liberty shipwreck and coral reef. The beach close to the villa is not a place I would recommend for a sunbath, even though is it taken care of and cleaned each day. It is better to go to Lovina if you a fan of spending time at the seaside. I can honestly say that spending time at Claude's villa, spending time in the pool or enjoying silence and seaview in the gazebo, the contact with villa staff - all taken together was one of the greatest experieneces I ever had. I wholeheartedly recommed that place, you would not regret it.

Wonderful vacation
Rested at the Villa in October . It was just a fabulous stay! We loved everything about it! When we arrived we were met at the airport by the driver who helped us with the purchase of the money, just brought us into the shops. The trip to the Villa was also very comfortable and interesting. On the way to the Villa the driver was driving through very beautiful places, and stayed so we could take photos. When we arrived at the Villa, we were greeted by the Staff and the Manager. The Villa is very large, comfortable and beautiful. Bedrooms are large, all very nice and clean, each bedroom has everything you need. Great garden, super pool and Jacuzzi. The ocean view it offers are great! In the evening when the heat subsides, we played tennis. The Villa has a beautiful tennis court. As well when the heat subsided, we were interested in fishing in the river. The Manager gave us fishing rods and every day brought the bait for good fishing. From the moment of our arrival all the staff tried very hard to create our stay as comfortable as possible. Everything was always clean. The chef cooked better than in a restaurant. The chef was always interested in our desires in food, she went to the market, bought fresh food and what she prepared was always delicious! The Manager was also very attentive to us! Assisted in the organization of our desires , listening to any whims and created for us the perfect stay. Two weeks passed like one day! It was an amazing, unforgettable vacation. Thank you very much to our hosts who created a Paradise and such a carefree vacation! We definitely want to go back to this unforgettable island again and we will definitely stay at your Villa! You gave us an unforgettable amazing vacation! Thank you!!! Olga and Maxim.

Beautiful villa with staff
We are a group of 12 from the UK and Norway who spent a wonderful week at Villa Mentari in August / September 2016.
From my initial enquiry through to our stay there Claude, the owner, dealt with correspondence quickly and efficiently.
The villa itself is superb, and for those of us accustomed to renting large villas in Europe, it offers exceptional value for money. It is even more stunning than description and photographs we had seen online. The bedrooms and bathrooms are comfortable and well equipped and were cleaned daily to a high standard. Any small niggles (noisy air conditioning unit) were dealt with promptly. The two bedrooms in the small house on the opposite side of the river were comfortable, but wouldn't be ideal for children as the building is quite a distance from the main property.
The main living room was large, bright and comfortable although hardly used during our stay as we spent most of the time outside in the gardens and around the beautiful infinity pool. This area was also where our meals were served.
The staff were excellent. Putu, the cook, would discuss menus with us, shop and serve up delicious meals. Usually we love dining out on holiday, but the two meals we ate out (at highly recommended restaurants) were not as good as Putu's cooking. One member of our party has a serious food allergy. The cook was informed of this prior to our visit and she went out of her way to provide meals that were suitable. For this we were extremely grateful.
The house manager and drivers suggested places to visit both locally and further afield and these excursions were very enjoyable (especially the dolphin watching trip). However, most of the time we stayed in and around the villa. The staff contacted a lady who did wonderful massages on the terrace overlooking the sea, and we also had visits from a reflexologist and a yoga teacher.
If there are any negatives at all I would say that the black sand beach immediately in front of the villa is not particularly attractive and we didn't spend any time there. However the view of the sea from the pool area is gorgeous. Visitors should note that it is a long drive from the airport and more touristy resorts in the south. This wasn't a problem for us, but be aware that it takes a long time to cover a short distance due to slow traffic.
In summary, Villa Mentari is a wonderful, luxurious setting for a relaxing holiday and comes highly recommended.
