Delightful apartment in the medieval area of a hilltop town in mid-southern Italy. The owners are so helpful and everything went beautifully. Although we had some high temperatures during our stay, we managed quite well with the windows open and the electric fan provided. We found the locals helpful even though we don't speak much Italian. The apartment was clean in all respects. The town is worth a visit as is the Borgo. We found the apartment a perfect stepping stone to visit the areas of beauty in southern Italy. We hired a car and had no problems in parking locally.

Some ideas of things to see and do locally:

- Tour Calitri Castle and local ceramics museum (only a five minute walk from your holiday home)
- Visit the charming town of Melfi, with it's impressive Castle and extensive museum.
- Spend a sunny afternoon at the beautiful Monticchio Lakes and Abby (Rent a paddle boat!)
- Wander around Nusco - a nearby, picturesque Hill Town with a fabulous Sunday market.
- Venosa, with it's story-book castle and birthplace of the ancient poet, Horace and Composer Gesualdo
- Aquilona's Roman ruins and museum
- Lagopesole - one of Frederick II's great Norman Castles
- Tour the local vineyards (and maybe do some wine tasting)
- Shop for hand-made ceramics
- Do nothing but lounge by the local town/hotel pool in the sun all day
- EAT!...
Getting around
Casa del Cipresso in Calitri is within easy walking distance to all amenities during your stay; a car is not needed at all for exploring the town of Calitri and public transport is available from the airport. We do, however, recommend a car for exploring the surrounding area and sights as bus connections can be infrequent.
