Relaxing beachside break
Beach cottage is a excellent cottage in a prime location right by the sea perfect for me and my wife and our 2 dogs the cottage is a stones throw from the beach which the dogs loved. Elspeth is a lovely accommodating host so easy to communicate with. Sandhead is a lovely tranquil seaside location. We will definitely be back.

Beach Cottage
The cottage was a lovely place to stay. It was very spacious, with a large living room with spectacular views. It also had a well-equipped kitchen. There was a large conservatory set up as a dining area, and we enjoyed eating there. The garden was a nice place to sit in the sunshine. Two sweet little bunnies could be seen on the green opposite the house and we loved walking straight out to the beach. The location of the cottage was superb and we hope to return again. We loved seeing the wildlife on the beach including herons and oystercatchers.

Disappointing
The advert for this holiday home is misleading as there is no picture of the outside of the house - 'Beach Cottage'- which in the flesh appears to be an semi-detached ex-council house. Initially we couldn't access it as there wasn't an update about a lock box, the access information said the key was under a plant pot at the back door. The garden was unsightly with long grass and dog poo. The property appeared neglected e.g. windows that could do with a clean, smelly drains in the kitchen, broken dysfunctional blinds in the conservatory. In addition, we endured banging doors, shouting and screaming from the neighbours into the the early hours. We did flag up the long grass and dog poo which the owners came and dealt with but didn't introduce themselves or apologise, the owner made excuses about nor getting round to things... The house is in a great location and this is the only reason we stayed. All in all a very disappointing experience at a high cost.

Sorry that you were disappointed with your stay at Beach Cottage. On the point of the grass cutting we cut it first thing on Saturday morning, usually this would be done on a Friday but did not manage this due to the weather which I mentioned to you when I called and I did appologise. Also you locked me out of the back garden when I was still cutting the grass at the front, so I presumed that you did not wish any further contact. You also brought along a dog which was not mentioned in the booking. I will admit that you payed a high cost, but as this was booked through Trip Advisor they add ap 20% to my prices. Beach Cottage has been fully booked all summer, with many repeat bookings and no-one has complained about the house, the neighbours or the location.

A wonderful, relaxing break away
Booking Beach cottage is the best decision we have ever made. Long journey or short, don't hesitate, the holiday experience is outstanding. This was our fifth stay in Beach cottage....our second home without the overheads. Our journey from North East England with two dogs is well planned with regular comfort stops on our way to Sandhead and Beach cottage. Yes, this adds to our travelling time but the reward at the end of an early start and long day is more than worth it. Beach cottage is an amazingly clean and comfortable retreat, in a peaceful setting with a magnificent beach just yards away. Our two spaniels make themselves at home as soon as they jump out of the car. The cottage is well equipped for a self-catering holiday, maintained to a high standard with a beautiful, secure, dog friendly garden. Sandhead has a convenience store for self-catering needs and a post office. The Tigh na mara hotel/pub in the village is very dog friendly. They also have a take away service over the weekends. Elspeth drops by to say hello and is very approachable should you need help or advice with anything. The Ship Inn at Drummore is also very dog friendly, has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and serves quality food at a reasonable price. They also offer scrumptious home-made scones, cakes and hot or cold drinks should their visitors prefer a light snack. Booking is advisable for evening meals. The Ship Inn also showcases local artists and crafts, ideal for anyone looking for a special gift or reminder of a perfect holiday. Stairhaven has a lovely, sheltered bay, picnic area and toilet facilities. It is well worth a visit, with a picnic, as there are no hospitality venues. Beach cottage is an ideal base for exploring this stunning South West peninsular, in a beautiful sea-side village and a pleasure to come back to at the end of the day. Thank you once again Elspeth and Hugh for another amazing holiday and the welcome snacks. We look forward to returning soon.

Great week at Beach cottage
We had a wonderful week in Beach Cottage. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and very clean. The gardens are very well kept, the rear is large and enclosed so safe for dogs. The location is great with lovely views of the sea through the large bay window in the lounge. Sandhead is a friendly village, close to local towns and visitor attractions in this lovely part of Scotland. Also has a local shop and a good pub close to the cottage. We will definitely return and stay here again.

Well equipped beach cottage
The beach cottage is well named , very close to the beach. It is dog friendly and our dog had a great time with lots of beach walks. There is a dog friendly pub/restaurant within a hundred yards. The cottage is very well equipped and has a great view of Luce Bay from the living room. We shall visit again.

Fabulous stay
Great cottage with fantastic views. Dog friendly and convenient for exploring all of the Rhinns area. Close to local shop and pub/restaurant and right across the road from the park and beach for the dog. Didn't want to leave after our week. Highly recommend.

Lovely cottage with an enclosed garden in a beautiful peaceful location
Beach Cottage is in a lovely location and has really comfortable accommodation. The kitchen is really well equipped and you have great options to dine inside or outside. Coffee in the morning in the garden was a real treat listening to the bird song. The cottage is a 1 minute walk across a very quiet road (30mph area) from a vast sandy beach (when the tide is out). Our 9yr old daughter spent most of her time snorkeling, beachcombing, paddleboarding and generally just in the sea or on the beach. There is very little current on the beach itself and it's very shallow so perfect for kids. Also because the tide goes out so far the sand often got warmed by the sun and the sea was beautifully warm when the tide came in. There's also a nice grass area between the house and the beach which we used often for kite flying and frisbees etc. There's a small convenience store in Sandhead that stocks basics (try the local dairy milk - lovely!) We got our main shopping delivered by Morrisons, Stranraer, and used the local shop to top up as needed so we never really needed to drive anywhere to shop. The Tigh Na Mara hotel in sandhead does good food and has a takeaway menu. If you enjoy the sea, quiet unspoiled coastline and really hassle-free and relaxing holidays I couldn't recommend Beach Cottage enough. We have been visiting this area for over 15 years and Beach Cottage is by far the nicest accommodation that we have found yet. So much so that we have booked for 3 weeks next year :-)

About the neighborhood
In the Stranraer area there is an abundance of stunning Scenery from the Moorlands and Galloway Hills to a variety of Coastal Features. Beach Cottage is situated in the Village of Sandhead, and looks out onto at least 7 miles of sand. It is located on a peninsula which has a varying and enchanting range of coastal features from the sandy beaches on the East coast to a variety of cliffs, rocks and sandy coves on th West the most famous of which are the delightful village of Port Logan and the picturesque fishing village of Portpatrick, with its variety of pubs and restaurants, most of which have fresh fish on their menus. The climate here is warmed by the Gulf Stream, hence the area is renowned for its gardens which are open to the public, namely Logan Botanic, Logan House, Ardwell, Castle Kennedy, Dunskey and Glenwhan - all well worth a visit. The area is the ideal destination for walkers as the Southern Upland Way commences in Portpatrick, it hugs the coast for some time before heading to the moorland near New Luce. There is also the newly opened(2012) Coastal Path which starts at Loch Ryan (Stranraer) and ends at the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse - ap 24 miles in total. There are also several circular walks based on this Trail from ap 1.5 to 8 miles. The Mull of Galloway is not only the most southernly point is Scotland it is also home to the RSPB Reserve. It has web cams to nesting sites and seal breeding grounds - it is a must for nature lovers and bird watchers. There are plenty of quiet country roads for driving or cycling along and taking in the scenery or for the more energetic cyclist there is the 7Stanes Mountain Biking Trail in the Galloway Forest Park. Golfing is another hobby that is well catered for in this area with 4 Golf Couses within a 10minute drive from Sandhead.
