Great cottage with fantastic views. Dog friendly and convenient for exploring all of the Rhinns area. Close to local shop and pub/restaurant and right across the road from the park and beach for the dog. Didn't want to leave after our week. Highly recommend.

Beach Cottage is in a lovely location and has really comfortable accommodation. The kitchen is really well equipped and you have great options to dine inside or outside. Coffee in the morning in the garden was a real treat listening to the bird song. The cottage is a 1 minute walk across a very quiet road (30mph area) from a vast sandy beach (when the tide is out). Our 9yr old daughter spent most of her time snorkeling, beachcombing, paddleboarding and generally just in the sea or on the beach. There is very little current on the beach itself and it's very shallow so perfect for kids. Also because the tide goes out so far the sand often got warmed by the sun and the sea was beautifully warm when the tide came in. There's also a nice grass area between the house and the beach which we used often for kite flying and frisbees etc. There's a small convenience store in Sandhead that stocks basics (try the local dairy milk - lovely!) We got our main shopping delivered by Morrisons, Stranraer, and used the local shop to top up as needed so we never really needed to drive anywhere to shop. The Tigh Na Mara hotel in sandhead does good food and has a takeaway menu. If you enjoy the sea, quiet unspoiled coastline and really hassle-free and relaxing holidays I couldn't recommend Beach Cottage enough. We have been visiting this area for over 15 years and Beach Cottage is by far the nicest accommodation that we have found yet. So much so that we have booked for 3 weeks next year :-)

Our first visit to Beach cottage was in 2016, what an amazing find. A clean and comfortable, well equipped, functional base for a self-catering holiday and exploring the surrounding area. Our fourth stay in July revealed a complete redesign of the garden, kitchen and en-suite in the master bedroom with it’s breathtaking view and ultra comfy bed. Wow, what a transformation. The kitchen has been reconfigured and updated to create a sleek, easy to clean space with useable work surfaces. The en-suite has also undergone a full refurbishment. The shower is powerful with the choice of two shower heads providing ample hot water. The re-designed garden has totally opened up the outdoor space. Opposite the conservatory doors is a seating area and table. Ideal for alfresco dining when the weather is fine. Looking up the garden the central path divides the lawn with colourful boarders and small fruit trees to the right. At the top of the garden a raised patio gives a birds eye view between the cottage and next door of the sea beyond. Comfy, easy to clean garden furniture provide a second seating area and table to relax with a morning coffee, watching and listening to nature in a tranquil outdoor space. The new garden layout allows for sunny or shaded areas throughout the day. The open, inviting aspect of the garden makes watching dogs, children or nature from the conservatory much easier. We visited Ardwell Bay and Soleburn garden centre near Stranraer, both recommendations from Elspeth of somewhere new to explore. Ardwell bay is easier to access with a 4x4 as the final stretch of the track down to the car park is very rugged. A huge bay with only two other people to be seen the day we went. Soleburn garden centre has a lovely cafe offering light snacks or something more filling at a reasonable price. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor seating area, a bonus as we had our two cocker spaniels with us. We first discovered Scotlands hidden gem in the late 1980s when our children were very young. There is something magnetic about the South West coast of Scotland. It is a beautiful place with the friendliest, most helpful folk we could wish to meet that pulls us back time and time again. We've just been lucky enough to get back from a lovely week in Sandhead, staying at beach cottage with our dogs. Not sure where to start other than to say book this fabulous cottage!! I already knew I loved this part of the country, but it was my partners first time & it didn't disappoint him. Beach cottage is situated perfectly in the beautiful village of sandhead literally right across the road from the beach. The view from the living room & master bedroom is gorgeous 😍 We felt instantly at home in this lovely cottage (the fudge & shortbread definitely helped 😊) as did the girls (dogs) the garden is absolutely perfect for dogs & people alike, secure, not overlooked & gets lots of sun. The cottage is much bigger than it looks on the photos, the bathrooms are lovely with 1 upstairs & 1 downstairs. The master bed was lovely & comfortable, as were the sofas. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you could possibly need to cook your meals whilst on holiday. I cannot rate this cottage enough, we absolutely fell in love with it. If you ever want to sell, we're you're people 😉😂 but in all seriousness we couldn't ask for a nicer place to have called home for the week. Thank you so much 😊

My Wife,Granddaughter and myself(+Buddy and Coco) really enjoyed our stay at Beach Cottage,Complimentary Border lemon drizzle biscuits(no fudge he he) for a 4 day stay at Sandhead,The owner Elspeth welcomed us and was very nice. Beach Cottage has everything you need,clean and well maintained,with stunning views from sitting room and main bedroom.The Beach is absolutely fantastic with miles of sand that Buddy and Coco fell in love with,running around like they were Puppies Again. The little grocery shop is well stocked with everything you need, The hotel and restaurant is only about 100 yards from cottage. we had Dinner there twice,table for three first night,and table for four second night(our daughter came down by train to stay the night) the food was of very good quality, We used the cottage as a base to explore the beautiful area of Dumfries and Galloway. We loved our Break so much that we Phoned Elspeth to book again for a week this time in April. My Granddaughter(Angel) has just arrived back from school,I told her we were going back to Beach Cottage,she said woooo hoooo. to sum up Beach Cottage is our new favorite place.

Just returned from a fabulous week in Beach Cottage. The cottage is very clean, spacious and has everything that you need for a short holiday. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the utensils you'd need including a dishwasher plus washing machine and dryer. From the sitting room bay window the views are awesome and a walk across the road takes you to mile upon mile of sandy beach. The local shop is well stocked and the nearest pub/restaurant is a two minute walk away. Thank you Elspeth and Hugh for a lovely week.

We had a wonderful week’s holiday in this fabulous cottage. The views from the main bedroom and living room are amazing as the cottage overlooks the quiet, sandy beach. The garden is enclosed and full of plants and flowers. The kitchen is really well equipped with a great oven and plenty of utensils and storage. The conservatory is a sun trap and overlooks the garden and the downstairs bathroom is clean and fresh with a bath and a good shower over. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one twin and one double with an en suite. The en suite has a great shower and again was very clean. All three beds are very comfortable. Elspeth popped in to greet us and to check all was well and made us feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. The shortbread and fudge that she left us were devoured very quickly! The local shop is well stocked and the pub/restaurant fantastic. We were very sad to leave after such a great week in lovely accommodation in a beautiful part of the world.

We have recently returned from holidaying in Beach Cottage, Sandhead. This cottage is like home from home, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and gorgeous views out the front window. Comfy sofas, comfy bed, brilliant shower in the ensuite and a lovely garden full of plants and shrubs - we even saw a red squirrel gathering a leaf from the palm in the garden and darting up the trees carrying it. Thank you to Elspeth for the delicious shortbread and tablet and the warm welcome. Loved it!

We have not long returned from a fabulous week in Beach Cottage. The cottage is very clean, spacious and has everything that you need as a family of 4 with children. The views are spectacular and a simple walk across the road to the beach. We will definitely book this cottage again.
