Lovely cottage in a great location!
We recently stayed at the cottage at the end of September for a week. It was the perfect retreat for me, my husband and our small dog. The cottage was very well equipped and has everything you need for a self catering stay. The owners left wine, milk, crisps & biscuits for our arrival which I thought was a really nice touch and very appreciated. There was a limited amount of wood for the wood burner but after a text to the owners, a box of wood was delivered straight away. The owners live on the property and are always just a phone call away if you need anything. The cottage was very clean and there is also cleaning products & equipment as well as a washing machine which was handy as we were there for a week. The cottage is situated perfectly if you are wishing to visit tourist attractions of the Peak District. Everything is within a short distance from the cottage. There are supermarkets 10-15 minutes away. Good local pubs include The Tickled Trout in Barlow and the Royal Oak at Millthorpe. The area is perfect for walks. The cottage has amazing views over the countryside. The cottage sits on the road and at times the traffic came past at high speeds. Not a negative comment towards the cottage as this is obviously out of the owners hands but just something to keep in mind if you are taking small children or pets. There is parking on the grass next to the cottage for one vehicle which was perfect for us and made loading / unloading a lot easier! The cottage sleeps four but there was only two of us plus our dog so I can’t comment on how suitable it would be for four people, but for us it was ideal. The only very small negative I had was the sofas are a tad uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time. It wasn’t a huge issue for us for the most part as we were out for most of the days exploring however we had one rainy day where we decided to stay in. Overall the cottage was fantastic and in a great location. I would highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit the Peaks! We will definitely be back.

Lovely, cosy, well equipped cottage.
We have just left this lovely cottage to travel home after our 5 night stay (2 adults, 2 children 4 & 7 yrs old) Would thoroughly recommend this lovely place. Owners friendly and welcoming, clean and cosy accommodation with everything you need (well stocked kitchen utensils). We enjoyed days out to Gullivers kingdom, the heights of Abraham, hired bikes to do the monsal trail, did a spot of bouldering at owler top, all fairly nearby and thoroughly enjoyable. Plenty of walks around the area, surrounded by beautiful views!!

Small but good quality
Clearly a recent conversion of an older building which has been done to a high standard. There are several similar rental properties adjoining. It is small but given the location on the edge of the peaks most people presumably won't be spending a huge amount of time indoors anyway. It has a much more sensible selection of cooking equipment than most places we've stayed in - such as decent (unscratched!) pans, a good hob, knives that are actually sharp and good quality crockery. Some basics such as milk, a bottle of wine and bread were helpfully supplied. There is also a selection of board games, some DVDs, and books too just in case the weather is dire. Everything was very clean and in good condition. The WiFi worked, the bedrooms are relatively spacious and have blinds that block the majority of the light (though are very hard to open/close). The sliding bathroom door sticks and is very noisy to open/close. (Also the catch is bent - most likely a previous guest tired to force it open and damaged it). We would have expected some drawers in the main bedroom. We could have done without the nearby cockerel in the morning! (It wasn't too loud and the windows are good quality but it might well wake you up.) It is close to the road and definitely not safe for children to play outside. Tractors, cars (and cyclists and horses) go past infrequently but fast. The owners spotted our bikes locked up outside (not to anything very strong) and kindly provided us with a key to a very solidly built and secure outbuilding where they keep their own bikes. It is probably a good place to stay if you are cyclists and have expensive bikes with you and want somewhere safe to leave them at night. If you are looking for somewhere to spend a large amount of time you should probably find something bigger. If on the other hand you are looking for a nice place to sleep whilst spending most of your time out and about around the peak district we whole heartedly recommend it. It is located slightly outside the main part of the peaks though. Incidentally we read the other review about the two 2 seater settees being too small and, to put it delicately, feel that they should be adequate for the majority of guests...

Very deceptive photography of the inside of cottage
I booked this cottage for 4 adults and a dog (labrador) from 17th - 20th July for our mums 68th Birthday weekend. The cottage is clean and well equipped. These are the only plus points. The downstairs is tiny, with the smallest sofas known to man (other people have written about the furniture in the guest book), they don't make for comfortable seating after a long day out. The cottage is right on a busy road with no gate before the road meaning we couldn't let our dog potter in and out , the traffic flew by (especially on an evening). It's not suitable for small children in my opinion due to the roadside being so close. There is little privacy as the cottages are in a row with another cottage facing them. It strikes me as a renovation in which they've tried to cram 3 cottages into a building designed for 2. The result...very cramped accommodation. The noisiest neighbour is the cockerel who starts his day at 4am....it took us 3 nights to almost get used to his early wake up call. I had problems having my security deposit returned (21 days after departure I got it back, and not without chasing). The owner tried to charge us £25 for 'cleaning' dog hair upstairs despite the fact our dog was kept downstairs and we'd swept up the wooden floor prior to leaving. This honestly has affected my opinion of booking a cottage through this site. The town of Bakewell was our favourite and was only a 15 min journey away, sadly the memories of our time there haven't made up for the overall poor experience.

Lovely cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at No.1 The Rumblings. They allow dogs too which is a bonus especially in those surroundings which are perfect for walking. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed for a self-catering stay as well as many thoughtful extras. It is in a good location for exploring the Peak District and we visited Chatsworth House, Bakewell and Bolsover Castle. We would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a good base for visiting the beautiful surrounding area.
