The Paddtfield Hideaway and Octagon Retreat is a comforting rural idyll away from crowds, noise, pollution and stress. It has an aura of belonging and welcoming. Windows, balconies and verandas overlook a paddy field that a farmer cultivates by hand, as his ancestors have done for seven hundred years.
Guests have free use of the Octagon: a sublime space for calming down, for feeling well, relieved of anxiety and pressure. Designed by an Irish poet in 2012 for meditation or yoga, for reading or writing, painting or playing a musical instrument, and for sitting still. Standing on the brow of a circular tea-garden contoured with stone paths that prevent erosion in thunderstorms, the Octagon has a commanding view of wooded hills and cultivated valleys that will uplift your heart.

We welcome the elderly or anyone in need of special care. All our water comes from own deep spring well. We can provide full board at little more than the cost of food to visitors' taste.
We already stayed in Sri Lanka for 2 weeks and Desmond is still the best in our hearts
We stayed for 3 nights at the paddyfield hideaway. We were 4 people and we were sharing a room and a bathroom. We had breakfast included: a lot of fruits, soup and and another type like rice & curry, pancakes, roti. We also had dinner , every single night during our stay, and was the best we tasted so far. A lot of delicious food. We always ate everything because was delicious, so we could't stop. You must try the fish for dinner and soups in the morning were on our top favorites. Thank you very much for everything, Desmond! We will definitely come back to stay at your place when we come back in Sri Lanka! Best wishes, Crina & family

The Highlight of my Trip to Sri Lanka..Go if you can, for a very unique experience!
I stayed here for four nights and had the most brilliant time. Desmond and Naomi are so welcoming, and the famous Irish poet who lives on the property was so interesting and entertaining. The room was beautiful and had a lovely balcony overlooking a paddyfield and temple. I cycled around on one of the complimentary bikes, and visited an ancient temple...what an amazing insight into rural Sri Lankan life.I also visited a meditation centre. Walking around the peaceful jungle villages was so different from the normal noisy craziness of the cities in Sri Lanka. This is a perfect place to chill out in nature. I loved to Octagon too...such a beautiful building perched on top of a hill surrounded by a tea plantation. Perfect for relaxing in. Go if you can, its a very different experience! Not to mention to fireflies and frogs!

This was just what we were looking for!
A quiet restful few days away from the hussle and bussle. Idyllic site overlooking ancient paddyfields surrounded in the evening by the chorus of frogs and cicadas and fireflies. Food was traditional and plentiful and our hosts were simply delightful. Our bedroom was large and comfortable with magnificent views from the balcony.
Our host arranged a lovely cycling trip to three ancient temples, through the most interesting jungle villages. This was like a step back in time.
My wife enjoyed yoga in the Octagon around which they have planted their own tea. My wife also loved visiting the Meditation Centre accross the valley.
Thank you Desmond and Naomi for a unique experience.
