This adorable cottage is set amid native plants and coconut trees with use of 80 feet of private beach on Tulum's Tankah Bay. UPDATE SEPT 2019. SEAWEED IS LESSENING. TURTLES HAVE LAID SO MANY NESTS. ASK OWNER ANOUT DISCOUNTED RATE! It is about 100 feet from the oceanfront. It is a snorkel lovers dream as well as an amazing turtle nesting area for visitors from May to September. Tankah Bay is a residential community about 8 kilometers north of Tulum. Snorkeling can be done right out front of the property. The 3 person kayak or single kayak can take you out into the calm waters for an even better vew. It is a quiet low key area with a retreat feeling. The Kasita is a perfect place for a week long or month long vacation, a writer's retreat or a way to spend warm days away from cold north...This adorable cottage is set amid native plants and coconut trees with use of 80 feet of private beach on Tulum's Tankah Bay. Snorkeling can be done right out front of the property. The 3 person kayak or single kayak can take you out into the calm waters for an even better vew. It is a quiet low key area with a retreat feeling. The Kasita is a perfect place for a week long or month long vacation, a writer's retreat or a way to spend warm days away from cold northern winters. Guests in May will witness the explosion of the red flamboyante trees viewed from the front porch. Spring will bring the fragrant blossoming of the beach 'lirios' and the red buganbilia will delight guests often. Imagine yourself on this pristine beach walking the path of the Maya who first inhabited this magical place. The cottage is colorfully decorated with talavera tiles, Mexican art and weavings. The bedroom area downstairs has a new queen size and loft has 2 double beds as well. An efficient AC system will cool you on summer nights. The oversized loft sleeps two or three and has an airy feeling. The front porch and loft rails were constructed by local Maya 'palaperos' who use the same methods their ancestors used centuries ago. The large fully equipped kitchen is perfect for family meals. Guests may dine inside, on the the grass roofed patio or on the beach at a table overlooking the ocean. Bring breakfast out to the beach or sip your coffee in a hammock strung up between large coconut trees.Early rising guests may enjoy a sunrise. Guests may walk the gorgeous and varied beaches where they will find a fresh water cenote near the shore, tide pools, coral reefs and great swimming areas. Down the road, across from Casa Cenote, is a large cenote where you can swim amid mangrove for a small fee. In ftont of Casa Cenote on the ocean side the cenote bubbles up out of ocean floor Recent guests have had the opportunity to witness turtle nesting and hatchlings. Tankah Bay has had an amazing comeback of several varieties of turtles. OUTINGS: *Cenote YaxKin 10 mins away. A lovely open cenote with nicely kept grounds. *Cenote Azul an amazingly beautiful series of pond amid rock formations. Lots of fish.$ *My favorite is Cenote Eden $, next to Cenote Azul. Eden is a large deep open cenote meant for swimmers. Eden closes on Saturdays. These 2 are about 20 minutes North. *Kam Luum, $, a cenote fed fresh water lake . Shallow with sandy bottom and clay for fun. *The magnificent Tulum ruins only 15 minutes away. *Xel Ha, an incredible all inclusive water park, is only 10 minutes to the north. $$$$ * Dive trips from Casa Cenote *Shopping for a wide array of artesania ...from locally made hammocks to weavings from Chiapas can be done at the many gift shops in Tulum. *Spend a day at the Coba ruins, bicycling around the site and ACTUALLY climbing the ruin. *Take a drive to the colonial city of Valladolid only 1 1/2 hours away. The improved roads in the Yucatan have made travel so much easier. *Cenote Suytun is on the way to Valladolid. It is a magnificent cave like cenote where you can swim without getting a sunburn. *Rent a bike and ride the bike path to the beach without crossing streets. Reward yourself with a delicious breakfast at the quaint restaurants on the beach road or take a dip before heading back. Tankah Bay was recently cited as having a large increase of turtle nests and hatchlings and guests may have the opportunity to actually witness this between June and October. The location of the cottage and keeping native plants has provided a safe haven for the turtles as well as a home for butterflies, colorful orioles and other birds. You may snorkel right out front and it is a short swim to the reef. Kids will love the hermit crabs at night! Imagine yourself there at midnight quietly watching a mother turtle burying her eggs in the very place where she was born! July 2017 my family witnessed no less than 10 turtle nestings and a few hatchlings. The truth is, the best thing to do is hang up a hammock or two on the front beach, grab your favorite reading material and enjoy a refreshing chilled beverage of your choice. More

We spend 10 wonderful days at Casita Katalina 3/1 -3/10 2019. Everything was as we expected: weather was perfect, water was clear and warm, the beach was practically empty, private paradise just for us. There were lounge chairs and kayaks ready to use, a small...More

I am sorry that the guests perception was that the house had no view at all. Most guests enjoy the abundance of native trees left that are home to countless birds and other little wildlife. I believe the site clearly states that the house is...More

About the neighborhood
1 1/2 hour drive from Cancun airport on Mexico's Caribbean at Tankah Bay, a residential community about 8 .kilometers north Tulum.. Kasita Katalina is on a large beachfront lot with ample parking and lots of native plants and trees. There are 3 restaurants and a small grocery store at Casa Cenote within walking distance. Tankah Inn is projected to have a new restaurant opening ...breakfast,?/maybe more.
How to get there
Most people rent a car but others take a shuttle down for about $85 for two people. I have recently used Grey Line $32 1 person and Super shuttle $38 1 person. Reserve shuttled in advance. DON'T GET INVOLVED WITH HAWKERS OUTSIDE AIRPORT. There also now is a bus that goes from terminal to terminal. It is free. If you travel light you can take the comfortable ADO bus to Tulum (changing in Playa del Carmen) and then get a cab back to Tankah 3 / Pavo Real entrada. The bus is about $10 and the cab about $15. To get around you can walk out to the road 1 km and take a shared van called combo for about 20 pesos to Tulum or 40 pesos to Playa del Carmen.
