The fully-equipped kitchen with gas stove, has a lovely view of the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains. Bottled purified water is provided. The tropical breezes, along with ceiling fans in every room are usually more than enough for you to be completely comfortable, yet all rooms also have air conditioning. Every bedroom has a king-sized bed with 400-thread count all cotton linens and its own bathroom with rain showers & smooth pebble floors. The master bedroom and bath both have gorgeous bay views. Mood lighting enhances the magic that nightfall brings. Let music soothe your soul with our custom sound system with speakers in most areas. A beautiful rustic wood pergola roof with bougainvillea and copa de oro flowering vines and a striking view of town across the bay frames your outdoor dining experience. This outdoor space is open enough to allow filtered light & sea breezes and sets a romantic tone to enjoy meals at home. From May to November the pergola is covered to protect from the occasional shower. You can always eat outdoors! Here at Punta Marina Condominiums there is a lovely 50 foot pool (good for laps) fed by a manmade waterfall, as well as off-road, covered parking, daily maintenance & 24-hour security. Our wonderful, cheerful housekeeper Gloria comes weekly on Saturdays. She might be available to make a lovely Mexican breakfast, lunch or dinner for a small charge, with notice. Magical, Peaceful, Delicious
I've stayed here twice during July and once in November, and it is always very restful. Sherwin and Peg's place is comfortable, cozy, colorful and very interesting. They've thought of everything you might need. You'll have guacamole, hibiscus tea, pastries, chips and fresh pico de gallo salsa ready for you when you show up. The view is unbelievable. Unbelievable! If you like music they've got masses of it (Sher is a pretty good musicologist). I like the quiet myself, and I enjoy it during the summer which is the rainy season. Although it is unpredictable, so far I've always had a few days of sun and beach (I rent a chair/umbrella from one of the beach sites, and have them bring me drinks and food while I sun and enjoy the many vendors who walk the beach with souvenirs). If it rains I often take a taxi into town and have a meal or enjoy the many shops and mazes of markets which stay open during the rain. I love swimming in the pool while it's raining. It's all relaxing and invigorating, a reclamation of the body. The steps coming back up from the beach can be daunting. After the first time, I just walked over to where the taxis were by the beach and had them drive me up to the condo (30 pesos = 1.50). You don't need to speak Spanish, a few simple words and phrases get me by in Z. I always find myself talking to visitors on the beach (people come from all over), and yes, although not particularly courageous, I go para-sailing from the beach every time I visit.

Perfect base for creating family feasts, savoring sunsets and devouring books
While we visited el centro Zihua nearly everyday to see the fishermen, consider souvenirs and buy produce at El Mercado mostly we hung out at this La Ropa hillside condo. The six adults among us read about 15 books in 10 days and most of us used the refreshing swimming pool and walked La Ropa beach on a daily basis. There is good separation of sleeping areas and living areas. The kitchen was amply, intelligently equipped if you enjoy group cooking. Tasteful eclectic regional decor. and lush indoor/outdoor plants that underscore the tropical feel. A perennial breeze kept things pleasant until nightfall and room air conditioners cooled the individual areas for sleeping. Great place to kick back and rejuvenate.

Spring Break 2015 - Zihuatanejo or Bust
This little gem was a great find! The condo is beautiful and spacious, even for the 6 adults that we had in our group. The kitchen was well equipped cooking in. The beds were all very comfortable, the view was spectacular, the terraces were both lush little tropical paradises loaded with plants and comfortable lounge furniture. The pool on the property is also a nice option for some sun if you don't feel like going all the way down to the beach. We walked down to Playa Ropa twice each day (the semi steep climb back up which included stairs was embraced as a hall pass for drinking extra margaritas!), and it takes less than 10 minutes. But the few times we decided to take a taxi and go into town, it was only about 50 pesos each way. Once we took at panga from Playa Ropa to the Zihuatanejo marina (right downtown), which was less than a 10 min boat ride, and I think it was 40 pesos per person. We took a long walk to a grocery store the first morning, just because we felt like walking, then came back in a taxi, which was 70 pesos (right now, about $5 USD). There were only two small hickups. One was that there was some road construction on the main road, which caused some traffic when driving, and a taxi driver told me the construction is expected to take another 3 months. The other was that for some reason (probably hair dryer combined with AC), we tripped the breaker for the hot water. We realized it and called the property manager, and it was a fast and easy fix. The entire experience was VERY convenient, and very comfortable. I definitely recommend this beautiful place!

Magic in Zihuatanejo
We've just returned from Casa del Abrol Cantando and our hearts remain. This is a knock-out beautiful home overlooking the Zihuatanejo Bay. A big space designed with authentic details that continued to surprise and delight us. There are two outdoor patios with lush plants, magical lighting and all a short walk to the beach. Sunsets here are stunning. Sherwin and Peg Harris are wonderful hosts and have created the perfect Mexican respite.

We definitely want to stay here again
We stayed at Casa Del Arbol Cantando for two weeks and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's as nice as is depicted in the description and photos. The owners, Sherwin and Peg, are very nice people and were a pleasure to work with in planning our stay at their place. They are both designers and completely renovated the condo when they bought it. The attention to detail and design can be found in every room and outdoor space. Great art throughout! The three bedrooms are spacious and each has a comfortable bed, built-in desk, ensuite bathroom, A/C, and ceiling fan. There is a new washer/dryer off the half-bath in the hallway. We enjoyed the stereo system and the playlist connected to it. The living areas are comfy and large. Cooking is something we really enjoy and the large gas range/oven was more than large enough for making dinners for six people. We were never without the proper utensil as the kitchen is fully stocked with everything needed. The refrigerator is also large and the ice maker is fed with bottled water. There is also a bottled water dispenser on the counter. As for getting food to cook, a quick cab ride to Commercial Mexicana will get you everything needed. There are always cabs there to get home and the fare each way was 50 pesos +/- each way (just over $3 US), excluding tip. Walk down the hill from the condo and you're at the south end of La Ropa beach. There are many restaurants all along the beach and you can easily walk to the north end of La Ropa in 15 minutes +/-. There are activity vendors on the beach for fishing, wave runners, parasailing, paddleboards, etc. The water is warm and wonderful. The condo pool is surrounded by tropical foliage and is mostly out of the hot sun in mid-late afternoon - nice and refreshing, especially after being in the hot sun at the beach. The housekeeper, Gloria, comes often, is very sweet, and does a great job of keeping the condo clean and tidy. Her husband is a taxi driver and she offered to arrange transportation for us. Sherwin stated that Gloria is a fabulous cook. We like to cook ourselves, but if you don't, ask him for details on how to arrange for her to cook for you. The sum this all up, we would definitely like to come back to this place!

True Zihua style
By Zihua style, I mean beautiful view, nice indoor/outdoor access and everything that goes with it. Everything in the listing description is accurate. Place is huge and terraces are great. The service from Sherwin was impeccable, and I would has no hesitation recommending this to friends. Because it was rainy season (which we like) and so hot and humid, activities limited to walking the town, shopping and eating. Sherwin has prepared a great guide to town and we dedicated ourselves to eating thru his restaurant list [we have been to Zihua about 15 times but were many we had not tried]. Bottom line, if he likes it, you will like it. Won't tell you our two favourites because even in low season (and September is DEAD) they were full. We are going to shamelessly steal some of the décor ideas that you do not realize are simple but great until someone else has done it. We used the driver Luis recommended and service was just great. Can't wait to get back to the area.

Better than advertised
This home is how we would like ours to be, in any country or environment. When we weren't on the beach or in town or touring, our favourite spot was the magnificent large deck overlooking what all the world should look like. Very comfortable. Very spacious. Very clean ( and kept that way with a great housekeeper all week). The owners of this paradise treated us like we were long time friends, and I could see it would be easy to become such with them. Easy short walk to the beach. Could even walk to town, but usually took the lazy way out with a $50 peso cabride ( less than five dollars). The wonderful culture of Mexico and it's friendly people are fully exposed in this town. We were welcomed and pampered, and although we usually like to try different restaurants for every meal, we became regulars at Carmelitas. It is truly a quality Mexican restaurant owned by amazing people. Prices very cheap by our standards at home, but even modest by local comparisons. Stay at this palace if you like the best of everything.

Thank you Lorne and Colleen! We are always humbled by guests who 'get it.' We keep pinching ourselves, never taking for granted the beauty and pleasure we experience not only in our home, but in lovely Zihuatanejo. Glad you liked one of our fave restaurants for lunch, Carmelita's. It's a hidden gem. Come visit us again soon!

Outstanding apt. w/ breathtaking views!
That was a spectacular stay at your unique and well equipped casa, Thank you Sherwin and Peg! Upon arrival their assistant greeted us with a tour of the airy art filled casa and showed us the amenities. The 2 outdoor spaces and spectacular views were very conducive to both relaxing or having dinner and drinks on. We were also provided with homemade guacamole and salsa and some refreshments which was a nice touch for the first day, as we arrived without any groceries. We totally appreciated the music system; read two of your books; used the washing machine; cooked a dinner for 10 people; ordered pizza in; had too many cocktails on the decks; watched the Olympics and the DVD on Owen but didn't swim in the large pool with waterfall at all – why, La Ropa beach was right there(5 minute walk down the hill)! Loved just hanging out in the comfortable, spacious and gorgeous apartment. Call a taxi or take bus from down the hill and get your groceries from town. We even walked to town along La Ropa in the cooler mornings. A short 15 min walk along a rocky trail and you are at Las Gatas Beach. Restaurants, drinks and beach chairs everywhere, take your pick. What a great holiday!

Thank you Wan. We love to surprise our guests with treats. We're glad you enjoyed the amenities and got to know and enjoy Zihuatanejo. Glad you enjoyed the music system, as music is very important to us. That's partly why we call it House of the Singing Tree. It enhances the magic that is already here. Z is a great place and we hope you'll be back.

Like staying at home, but with the most spectacular view you can imagine
Step out onto the patio and take in the view. Just remember to breathe. Third time to Zihua and second time as guests to the "Sing Tree". I have to say its become home away from home. It has all the amenities. Throw on some vacation music over the patio speakers and relax and enjoy this view. Make breakfast at the condo then head down the hill to one of the best beaches in Mexico. Look for Victoria at the Arena Restuarante. She will keep you in Cervesas. Snack on Shrimp or fish tacos, even the Hamberguesa is great. Wander back up the hill to the condo, enjoy some wine on the patio and then head out to any of a number of fantastic restaurants in Zihua. Sherwin and Peg hooked us up wit h a great Cab driver named Luis who also took us on a day trip to a newly found Pyramid. He was very knowledgeable as our guide thru the whole trip Newell worth it. Luis has a larger cab so he can handle bigger groups and can also get a suburban for groups of six or more and their luggage. We are already booked agin for next year. Countdown is on.

Thank you TIm. Glad it feels like home to you too. Happy you 'guys' will be coming back next year. I see that you are certainly getting the hang of it. That is what it's for... kicking back and enjoying being "off duty." It's very cool that you got out to the "new" archeological site, Xihuacan. Fascinating stuff. Glad Luis gave you a good tour. He's a great resource. By the way, Casa del Arbol Cantando means House of The Singing Tree." A name that comes from our love of music (Peg sings too) and also honor of our tree in the entrance. (I'm happy to be in our casa now.) See you next year!

Casa Del arbol Cantando
We give Casa Del arbol Cantando a 5 Star+ Rating! We stayed with a group of friends from 12/17 to 12/28/12 and can't say enough about the condo, the location and the caring, personale and involved owners, Sherwin and Peg. We have rented a lot of condos over the years in different locations and this one stands out as one of the best ever. The condo is gorgeous, the location is breathtaking. Waking up to that view every morning was amazing. Our quads are in the best shape ever after those breathtakingly beautiful hikes up and down the 76 stairs to LaRopa! We loved the quality touches, the gorgeous dishes, glassware, copper bottom cookware (could have used a baking sheet however)and artsy touches. The signature "arbol cantando" is a huge wow factor! The ambience is perfect. Having 2 patios was delightful and both are a plant and flower lovers feast! Dona Rosario was a wonderful personable housekeeper who makes great breakfasts! The five of us had plenty of room to relax and spread out. Most of all what sets this condo apart is the caring and personable owners. They were great at answering questions ahead of time but called while we were there to make sure everything was ok. We were sharing photos back and forth and made new friends in the process of renting. All of their recommendations for restaurants and experiences were spot on. I'm sure they make all their guests feel this special! We took the bus often to explore the great restaurants and our favorite coffee shop in Zihua - it's easy to get the bus just a block from the bottom of the stairs and at 6.5 pesos just riding the bus was a fun local adventure. Also from the condo it's a great hike over to Playa Las Gatas - again the best combination of workout and then relaxing great beach, fish tacos and cerveza once there. We would highly recommend this great condo to anyone looking for a memorable Zihua experience!

Dear Karen & Joe, Thank you for the very kind review. Sharing the magic of Zihua and our home is rewarding when it is so appreciated. It is a very special place, to be sure. We are blessed to have it and share it. (FYI, there is now a baking sheet in the oven!) We look forward to having you back soon. Saludos Tropicales, Sherwin & Peggy

About the neighborhood
Punta Marina is a terra cotta colored terraced hillside condominium complex overlooking Playa La Ropa and the beautiful Bay of Zihuatanejo, at the foothills of the Sierra Madres. Playa La Ropa has charming restaurants and beach clubs, perfect for a day of sunbathing or water sports, including sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, parasailing, snorkeling, etc. (We provide beach towels.) Just around the bend is the charming Playa Las Gatas, a delightful option for a day at the beach and snorkeling, with an underwater wall that legend claims was built by an ancient Indian king to protect the waters for his daughters.
Getting around
We are about twenty minutes from the airport. We are less than a ten minute walk down to the beach. Taxis arrive within 5 minutes and can take you to any of our fine beaches, or a myriad of restaurants and shops. A ten-minute drive to town usually costs 100 pesos (less than $6 USD). It’s about 25 minutes to Ixtapa, where there are more fine restaurants & stores, as well as tropical bike trails and golf courses. Lovely day trips could include surfing, seaside dining in Troncones or Majahua, kayaking in Barra de Potosi or visiting La Chole, our local archeological site with a pyramid and nice little museum.
