The Whale is a 230 year old restored Captains cottage in the heart of the historic village of Dunmore Town, Harbour Island, Bahamas. This charming home underwent extensive restoration and renovation in 2018 and features 5 Bedrooms with ensuite washrooms, sleeping 10.
Beautifully landscaped the property boasts a brand new heated swimming pool with plenty of space to relax in the sunshine. Steps away from the pool is the private lanai/bar with lounge area and tv perfect for enjoying a good book or whipping up some fresh cocktails. Above the bar sits a bedroom with ensuite and incredible views of the harbour. The backyard also includes a brand new cabin with ensuite bathroom and kitchenette.

WOW! The Whale is stunning!!!!
Wow!!! The new owners did a spectacular job on the renovations.
The Whale is just beautiful.
We loved hanging out on the lanai overlooking the incredible pool where the kids spent most of the time swimming.
At night we would go to the upper deck overlooking the harbour to watch the sunsets.
We had our privacy and slept in the gorgeous new cabin by the pool.
The rest of our family slept in the beautifully decorated, cozy main house.
The Piggly Wiggly is only a block away. It was easy prepare and cook most of our meals in. The kitchen has been completely redone and I loved cooking on the gas stove and grill outside.
We did eat out at this fantastic restaurant called The Landing. It was was easy to walk there from The Whale.
We spent a lot of time at the beach, swimming in the incredible turquoise water.
The kids went horse back riding and on an excursion to swim with the pigs.
There is so much to do. We wish we had stayed longer. If we ever go back to Harbour Island we would stay at The Whale again.

Fabulous
We stayed at "The Whale" just after the new owners finished their spectacular renovations. It's Bahama charm, stunning decor, pool, new kitchen ... homey and comfortable . No-one wanted to leave. We are definitely coming back again. We are spoiled now......

Fabulous stay at The Whale
We stayed at the newly renovated Whale in February. The new owners have done an amazing renovation to a fabulous property. We stayed in the " Cabin " by the pool. It had a big king sized bed, great three piece bathroom and small kitchen and just steps from beautiful large heated and cooled pool. The house itself is so homey and comfortable. Lots of places to gather for conversion or quite places if you want to be by yourself..All the bedrooms and bathrooms were well decorated and luxurious. Also a beautiful new kitchen.
We love Harbour Island and this location is the best. Close to shops and restaurant
and beautiful Harbour views.
We are already making plans to return next year.

Be wary before you rent the Whale!
Harbour Island is one of my family's cherished vacation destinations. In fact, Princess St. where the Whale is located is one of our favorite streets in Dunmore Town. The Whale has great potential, but unfortunately, we spent most of our vacation dealing with delayed maintenance issues. We checked in on a Saturday. The stove did not work and was not repaired until Wednesday. Eating out on the island is outrageously expensive. Our daughter has food allergies which require us to cook all of her food. Trying to prepare dinners in a microwave Sat.-Wed. was beyond frustrating and unacceptable when we rented a house with the understanding that we would have a full kitchen. The stove issue is only the beginning.
The living room a/c and master bedroom a/c did not work. In addition, the condensation line in the attic area leaked into the living room below. Pots, pans, towels, etc. were used to collect the water throughout the week. I have pictures to prove! The guest room a/c was stuck on. We figured out how to remedy that by purchasing new batteries for the remote.
The kitchen sink continued to back up throughout the week. We had a few rain showers during our stay. There was leaking in another area of the living room during that time that fell on the sofa.
We graciously and patiently approached the realty company that manages the Whale.We were told that repairmen and restitution would be provided. Some repairs did happen such as the stove, but 5 days into our stay was unacceptable. Restitution was not provided. The real estate company basically dropped the ball after our stay.
We were told that the owner is planning a renovation. Obviously, the house is neglected. Perhaps they should remove it from the rental market until the home is in working order. As owners of a vacation property, I wouldn't dream of renting our home in such a state.
The Whale has great potential to be a charming cottage on a quaint street in the village. I would recommend you seek another rental in the area until renovations have been made.

French doors off the kitchen lead you to yet another outdoor living space including comfortable seating and outdoor dining table for alfresco dining.
The Whale is fully air conditioned, includes two private parking spots for golf carts, 10 chairs for the beach with umbrellas, 2 kayaks, baby crib, high chair, separate washer and dryer cabin, gas BBQ, internet, housekeeping and a generator.
The Whale is located on the quaint bougainvillea lined princess street in the heart of the village. Conveniently surrounded by all that harbour island has to offer, yet a private oasis to give you space to get away from it all.
