Laundry Cottage nestles in the picturesque hamlet of Shielfoot – a short distance from Acharacle. It forms part of an old servants block and has been tastefully renovated, retaining many original features. It is set on a quiet single track road a short drive from Castle Tioram. This spacious three bedroom home is ideal for families, friends or couples who want a blissful break in the north of Scotland. Can we bring our dog? Yes, we find dogs and their people love exploring the beaches and countryside. In the kitchen we provide a bed and blanket, and a food bowl. Please take care to keep dogs on the lead where there are sheep, and watch out for cattle grids. We ask that dogs stay downstairs during your visit. We allow one dog free of charge, and have a cleaning charge of £10 for eve...Laundry Cottage nestles in the picturesque hamlet of Shielfoot – a short distance from Acharacle. About the neighborhood
Acharacle lies on the western end of Loch Shiel and is surrounded by beautiful scenery making it a popular holiday destination for hill climbers and naturalists. It has, among other resources, a small primary school with around 60 pupils, a hotel (The Loch Shiel Hotel, which also contains a shop), a garage, a , fish and chip shop, and a grocery store as well as a doctor;s surgery. It has the main postal sorting office for the peninsula of Ardnamurchan, which has a cafe on site.Acharacle is about 6 km from the Dorlin Beach, where the ruins of Castle Tioram lie. The population is about 300. It is connected to the towns of Mallaig on the west coast and Fort William by a mixed dual and single track road to the villages north and by road south and east and then ferry at Ardgour to Fort William ...
Getting around
You'll need a car to get around. There is a bus service but it isn't frequent or designed with tourists in mind. The area is perfect for cycling as the roads are quiet and generally well maintained, and there are lots of scenic walks both from the cottage itself or the surrounding area.
