A fabulous, luxurious, historic 'laird's house' with 13 bedrooms and ample space for a house party of up to 35. Ormidale House sits in 22 acres of private grounds in beautiful scenery. The house is brilliantly situated for sight-seeing around the West Coast. The immediate area is renowned for some of the best walking in Scotland, and it's a great base for fishing, riding, shooting, golf, sailing or cycling. We've put in 6 fishing rods, 12 bikes for different sizes (with helmets), and 8 bags of golf clubs. There's loads to do in the area, and some great local pubs and restaurants, but we've also tried to make it comfy enough for people who don't want to go anywhere else. There's loads to do in the area, and some great local pubs and restaurants, but we've also tried to make it comfy enough for people who don't want to go anywhere else. Ormidale House was built as a seat of Clan Campbell in 1696. After ongoing minor changes through the centuries, in 1900 the house was substantially extended by the renowned Scottish architect Robert Lorimer to form the well-laid out, comfortable, bright, light, and spacious 13 bedroomed “laird's house” that is available for weekend or weekly rent today. It's been pretty luxuriously equipped and nicely furnished, mostly with antiques. The new, comfy beds feature fabulous quality goose-down and feather duvets and gorgeous bed-linen, we've put some original Scottish art on the walls, bought half decent crystal for the table and generally tried to ensure that it's as comfortable and well-equipped a place to stay as you'll find in Scotland, without having any of the formality or grandeur of a castle or stately home. The house has a lovely, relaxing feel. With a drawing room, TV room / snug, full-size Billiard Room, playroom, large kitchen with AGA and breakfast room downstairs - as well as the impressive dining hall seating 24 - Ormidale has sufficient accommodation to cater for any large house party. We have laid out the bedrooms to offer real flexibility; two rooms are set up as triples, three as king-size doubles, one as a quadruple bunk room and another as a family room for up to six bodies!! The other six bedrooms can be set up either as super-kingsize doubles, as twins, or even sometimes as triples. All bar two of the bedrooms have either an en suite bathroom or a basin. There are four further bathrooms, two separate loos, and a sauna. Altogether, the house has nine showers and ten wc's. As well as a private hot tub for each house, we now have an indoor heated swimming pool which is shared between the three houses on the estate. Each house gets their own hour of exclusive swimming time in the morning and in the afternoon – outside those six hours, it is a “free for all” in the pool. There's a football pitch and a tennis court, a games cottage and a bouncy castle. With thousands of acres of forestry on our doorstep, the property is idea for explorers of all ages, on two legs or four!!!More

What a weekend & what a house !!!
I celebrated my 30th birthday last weekend at Ormidale House and what a house it was! 27 of us fit in to the house just perfectly. John, Pam and Norman assisted my every request (and boy, there were a few!). The house was kitted out with everything we needed and more! John truly has thought about everything. 10/10 for Attention to Detail!! The house itself is just stunning. Every room is jaw dropping and my friends who came from far and wide (one friend who flew in from Dubai just for the weekend) were in awe at the clear history of the place. All rooms were spotless and we just loved how we felt like we had stepped back in time (as the house retains its character, beauty and elegance), yet still offered with all the mod cons etc! Gardens were stunning and we took full advantage of them by organising a fun treasure (alcohol) hunt .. highly recommend btw! Pool was fab (and warm) and the bbq was there ready for our arrival. Overall, an amazing weekend and I am so happy I chose this House for my 3 night 30th celebrations!! Massive thank you to John, Pam and Norman. Definitely will be back.

Family Party
We had a fantastic few days at Ormidale for a family party over new year. We stayed in Ormidale house, the house is amazing and will it’s grandeur and atmosphere steeped in history helped by the log burning fire was the perfect place for our group. The facilities were great with activities for all ages. The hot tub, billiards table and sauna were a particular favourite for our group. I feel that the photos do not do it justice. The rooms are very spacious with super comfy beds with a touch of luxury with the bedding. A perfect place to relax after a day of exploring the stunning grounds with views of natural beauty. The team were friendly, helpful and always accessible. A perfect place for a break away.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a positive review - most of our satisfied customers don't find that time, and we really appreciate you doing so. Glad you enjoyed the space, the area and the house. I hope we can see you again.

NO RUNNING WATER- DO NOT STAY HERE
Weekend away with the family turned into a nightmare. On the Friday night, the water stopped working. Leaving us unable to flush the toilets, no showers, boiling hot tub water to wash our dishes. The owner arrived TWO DAYS LATER with chocolates and Prosecco to apologise. Water never came back on and many family members returned home. In addition, leaks started to appear in the hallways and bedrooms due to the rain, not uncommon in Scotland. The owner has clearly put no money into this ageing Scottish home as we heard this is a common issue. The house gets its water from a small Loch up the hill. According to locals, the pipes often become blocked, leading to the groundskeeper having to find the blockage and restore running water. We received a small refund which barely covered the night stay that so many members of our family missed due to the water issue. We are lucky in Scotland that houses like these aren’t hard to come by. I strongly recommend going elsewhere until this owner decides to invest in his property.

We are so sorry for the trouble you had. It is a very, very long way from being a common problem - this is the first time it has happened in over ten years. We have spent about £30,000 improving the water supply, which is why it is now so reliable. The only other thing to question is whether £1,500 is a small refund? In all our interactions with guests at the house during the weekend stay in September, they all said that they were having a great time and appreciating the house and not letting the issue get in the way of that. I was first told there was a problem on the Sunday morning and I came straight back a day early from a 60th birthday celebration weekend away in Yorkshire to deliver the apology, prosecco and chocolates. Again, I am really sorry that you had the problem in the first place, and that you considered our refund inadequate.

Great stay
The house and grounds are wonderful. We stayed at the old barn and cottage which comfortably slept 13 of us although more could stay if sharing beds. A great place to explore the area and the site managers Terry and Kerry were fanstic at helping us with everything we required during our stay.

Incredible weekend!
Can’t have asked for anything more from John and the team at Ormidale. We attended for a friend’s 30th birthday with around 35 of us and there was more than enough room and enough facilities for everyone. We had a huge dinner in the dining room one evening, spent Saturday in the gardens of the huge estate, and cooked another meal ourselves on the other evening. Well equipped kitchen enabled us to cook and serve breakfast lunch and dinners very easily. The privacy of the place is amazing, and the house was given to us in immaculate condition. The estate couple living on site were brilliant fun and encouraged everyone to have a good time. Talking about establishing availability next year already. Cheers John & team!

Fantastic place
My friend found this stunning estate for my 30th and it couldn't have been any better. The place is gorgeous, the games room and common spaces including dining room are ample as are the rooms. The most beautiful thing about it was the drawing room (I think?) where we had a fire going and with music and games and cards it felt like a Harry Potter commonroom. The beds were crazy comfy, the hot tub lovely and the surroundings so beautiful and perfect setting for our murder mystery dinner. Couldn't come higher recommended. Communication was quick and easy and the owners and staff were great. There were 21 of us and we couldn't have been more pleased with the house. We re hoping we can find another excluse to rent it in summer so we can play outside too 😃

10/10 stay!!
A group of 20 of us stayed here for my boyfriends 21st birthday, the house was beautiful, very modern! In my opinion the photos do the house no justice at all, soo much nicer in real life! We stayed in the old barn with 4 of us in the garden cottage. The house was very spacious with lots of modern, clean and up to date rooms. The house even had a sauna room which was a surprise as it was not mentioned on the website. Hot tub and pool was also great with great garden space for the nice weather. The owners were sooo lovely and could not have been more helpful; one even drove one of us to the local shop 15/20 minutes away! They were super understanding that we were there for a 21st also and just asked us to keep noise to a minimum later at night but luckily the neighbours we had at the time were also there for a birthday celebration so noise was not an issue. Totally recommend this place and would absolutely love to go back. 10/10.

Beautiful Argyll
Fabulously sunny weekend stay at Ormidale House. Kids had s blast in the pool, on the tennis court and on the football field. Gardens looked amazing with lots of late spring colour. Excellent sleep in comfortable bed and fully equipped kitchen for BBQ etc And to top it all off, a sunny trip to the beach. Glad to staycation with amazing places like this on offer. Oh and very friendly estate managers who introduced us to their dogs and chickens.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review us. The chickens are a very popular new addition to the estate. When you get the weather, there is nowhere better than the West coast of Scotland. And even when you don't, we like to think Ormidale is well enough equipped to pass a jolly and comfortable few days. We will hope to see you and your lovely family again soon.

Outstanding Stay
Just returned from a weekend at the STUNNING Ormidale Estate! The house, facilities and surroundings were the perfect setting to enjoy my wife's 40th birthday with close family, friends and all our children. We had catering provided to us be Mark who was brilliant pre/during and post the meal. The food and service was second to non only outdone by the grand dining hall and billiards. The onsite management team were on hand to look after everything and could not do enough for us to ensure a memorable weekend. We will definitely be retuning to this stunning property!

About the neighborhood
As well as general site-seeing and trips to the Island of Bute, Inverary and further afield, there are a host of other activities you can undertake around Glenaruel. It’s fabulous walking country and we’ve also provided twelve mountain bikes for those who want to explore on two wheels rather than four. There are some really excellent and quite varied routes direct from the house, involving all sorts of terrain and levels of strain! Golf – there’s a lovely 9 hole pay and play course ten minutes away above Tighnabruaich. We’ve supplied five bags of golf clubs for the house and they probably won’t be too fussed about the usual rules re golf shoes provided you don’t arrive in jeans and carve the course up. The same applies to the almost equally spectacular nine hole course at Blairmore & Strone, half an hour away. Cowal Golf Club at Dunoon and Inellan are the 18 hole courses in the area that welcome visitors. Fishing - too many options to go into here, but you can spend anything from £9 per day to over £1,000 for river fishing in the area. You can fish for trout in our own stream for nothing or in the Lochen at the head of the river. Mackerel on a line in a boat on the Kyles is a right of passage for hundreds of West of Scotland kids every year. They swim in shoals all around these waters – the mackerel, not the kids - and there’s no permit payable. It’s a fabulous part of the world for water-sports of all sorts. Horse-riding, climbing, canoeing, caving, archery, quad biking, paint-balling, and clay pigeon shooting are also all available either on site or in the area. It’s not our thing, and the house ain’t full of antlers, but we can help you arrange a day’s grouse or pheasant shooting, or stalking in season, if some of your party want to do that. There is a wee shop selling all the basics at the camp-site in the Glendaruel valley, about a mile’s walk away, beside the historic Kilmodan standing stones. You get a slightly bigger choice in the Spar at Tighnabruich five miles away, and all year round opening. Dunoon is 16 miles away and is a thriving market / harbour town with award-winning bakeries, cafes and butchers, as well as a big Co-Op and a big Somerfield supermarket. Scotland isn’t really well served by pubs in general; this area is definitely an exception. The Glendaruel Hotel is a lovely wee pub, a two mile drive away – or about a mile and a quarter as the crow staggers – and serves good pub grub or better. The Colintraive Hotel and Tighnabruich Hotel are each a tad busier and a tad more ambitious in terms of menu. Chatters in Dunoon is highly recommended, and the Whistlefield and Coylet Inns on Loch Eck are also worth a visit. Our favourite restaurant in the entire universe is on Loch Fyne, overlooking the old Castle Lachlan. (The view from the Inver Cottage terrace is one of the Robbie Innes pictures on our drawing room wall.) It’s less than half an hour away from the house. The Benmore Gardens tea room is not half bad, either, and the Otterferry Inn and Loch Fyne Oyster Bar have good reputations (on which, it might be said, they trade slightly…) All in all, though, there are few areas of Scotland where you can enjoy such a variety of excellent, reasonably priced menus.
