Standing amongst some dramatic scenery and enjoying views of countryside and hills encompassing the Manod mountains at the front with a craggy backdrop of the Moelwyn mountains which protect the village from much of the wind in the winter to the rear, the cottage is an ideal base to explore the area and attractions on offer. The village has a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering how high it is located in Snowdonia. There are some fantastic walks, lakes and waterfalls that can be enjoyed from the cottage and the area is great for fishing and golfing. The Lakeside café is only a two minute walk from the cottage and the village pub is about a twenty minute walk away. The slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog is just one and a half miles away and offers an array of eating establishments, pubs, shops, chemist, petrol station/garage and leisure centre/swimming pool. Blaenau Ffestiniog is also the home to the World Famous Ffestiniog Narrow Gauge Steam railway which links to the harbour town of Porthmadog, and runs through the village of Tanygrisiau and the station in the village is only a 2 or 3 minute walk from the cottage. Glan yr Afon really is the ideal base for exploring the many attractions Snowdonia has to offer. The Italianate village of Portmeirion is only eight miles away, Llechwedd Slate Caverns is one and a half miles and many CADW heritage sites and beaches are only a short twenty to thirty minute drive away. Coed y Brenin, one of the best mountain bike centres in Britain is also only twelve miles away and of course, there is Snowdon itself, which is about a thirty minute drive. The Stiniog downhill tracks & trails are only a short drive away, located at Llechwedd Slate Caverns alongside Zip World Titan and Bounce Below. Features & Facilities include: • The lounge is warm and welcoming with lots of character. Exposed beams are throughout the lounge and the exposed stone inglenook houses a multi fuel stove which is set on a slate hearth. • Separate fitted kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker/grill, gas hob, extractor hood, microwave, fridge with icebox and washer/ dryer. • Downstairs bathroom with bath, shower attachment over, low level WC and basin. Well appointed and modern in design. • LPG central heating throughout • Electricity, LPG & starter pack of fuel for Multi fuel stove included • 2 well behaved dogs welcome (please bring own dog beds and towels) • Upstairs are 2 bedrooms, the double bedroom is light and airy with delightful views across the river and fields towards mountainous scenery and a lovely single bedroom. • Bed Linen, towels and tea towels are all provided, together with the following 'consumables': Washing up liquid, washing up brush, cloth & sponge, washing powder/liquid, dishcloths, and tea towels. Liquid soaps by washbasins, toilet roll and bin bags. We also provide a small supply of Tea, Coffee and Sugar. There is also a condiment set of Salt, Pepper & Vinegar. • Off road parking on first come first served basis in allocated parking bays opposite terrace of cottages. • Lakeside Café only a 2 minute walk and pub is approximately a 20 minute walk. The nearby town of Blaenau Ffestiniog offers an array of shops, eating establishments and pubs. • Strictly No Smoking • Smart TV with Freeview, DVD Player, iPod dock and a good selection of DVD's and books. • Free Unlimited Wifi. • There is an enclosed and gated front courtyard with picnic bench, a great spot to enjoy evening drinks after a day spent enjoying the wonderful scenery and numerous outdoor pursuits the area has to offer. • Private, enclosed rear patio with garden furniture. Great little find.
We stayed at this lovely little cottage for 1 week for Easter. Owner made our stay extra special with little gifts around the cottage for myself, Husband and labrador (He loved his treats) Cottage had everything you needed for enjoyable stay. We found Black Rock Beach a short drive away which was great for everyone and dog friendly would definitely recommend a visit.

Cosy cottage
Lovely cozy welsh cottage. Very clean and tidy. Owners had left welcome package and lots of extras were left around the cottage such as toiletries in bathroom and gift bag on pillow with chocolate and pillow spray. Such lovely touches. Good base to travel around and lots of local walks. Such a shame that there are many shops shut in local village. Would definitely recommend and go back again.

Cosy cottage excellent for exploring Snowdon area
Lovely well equipped cottage in quiet cul-de-sac with everything needed for a 2 week stay. Very cosy, especially with the log burner👍 Nothing we needed and the welcome pack was a huge bonus. Ideal for the narrow gauge railway, zip world slate and forest, white water rafting, and lots of beautiful hills to climb as well as villages to explore. Brilliant driving/motorbike roads for those with advanced skills👍👍 Angie and Rich were very helpful continually updating us on the Coronavirus situation in Wales. Highly recommended!

Relaxing stay
Our last night at this cozy cottage. Only a short break but thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Lovely views to the front of the cottage, some great walks too. Central to places of interest and we would recommend Beddgelert, a beautiful village about 30 mins drive away. The accommodation itself has everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The owners also going that extra mile with little welcome extras! Much appreciated and we would highly recommend. Thank you for a relaxing stay!

Wonderful cosy cottage
We spent two weeks in this wonderful cosy cottage, equipped with everything you can just think of. It was clean, quiet and is a perfect starting point for discovering Snowdonia National Park and the north of Wales. The communication with the Angie was without any problems and very friendly, everything was arranged as described. Even firewood was present, we were really sad the weather was so good that it was not necessary to use the fireplace. ;-) Particularly noteworthy is the provided, really huge amount of information what you can do in Snowdonia and around, like walking trails, attractions, maps and so on and a comprehensive file with guest information covering every question you might have. And last but not least, the tasty welcome package! This cottage is highly recommended, we will try to come back. Thanks Angie!

About the neighborhood
The cottage stands amongst some dramatic scenery and enjoys views of countryside and hillside encompassing the Manod mountains at the front with a craggy backdrop of the Moelwyn mountains which protect the village from much of the wind from northerly gales in the winter and give the village a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering how high it is located in Snowdonia. The cottage is situated in a terrace of about 12 cottages and is located in a quiet position away from the main road and passing traffic, there are parking bays opposite which are for the use of the terrace, so parking should not be a problem, but is on a first come, first served basis. Situated in the village of Tanygrisiau, meaning Under the Steps, a close neighbour of the larger town, better known as Blaenau Ffestiniog. An ideal location for exploring the attractions Snowdonia offers. The village has a local pub called The Kings Head (locally known as the Tap) which is about a 20 minute walk away, and there is a local bus service which runs regularly into Blaenau Ffestiniog and can be picked up at the end of the terrace. There is also Tanygrisiau Lakeside Café a 2 minute walk away which offers a wide choice of snacks & meals during the day and a Greek Tavern by night (please check opening times to avoid disappointment as they do not open every night), they also offer a good breakfast menu which will set you up for the day. The Moelwyns protect the village from much of the wind from northerly gales in the winter and give the village a pleasant southerly aspect with relatively mild weather considering its location high in Snowdon. The village stands amongst some dramatic scenery; a good base for a quiet relaxing break, whilst being centrally located for excursions further afield, such as the World Famous Ffestiniog narrow gauge steam railway, Llechwedd slate caverns, many CADW heritage sites, such as Harlech Castle, and the Italianate village of Portmeirion is only a short drive away. The renowned Grapes Inn, a 17th Century Coaching Inn & Restaurant is only 2 miles away. The town of Blaenau Ffestiniog offers a range of public houses, eating establishments, gift shops, chemist and Leisure Centre. A short drive away is Coed y Brenin, one of the best mountain bike centres in Britain. Bikes are available for hire and the visitor Ffestiniog holiday cottagescentre offers a good selection of snacks. There is also the world class downhill biking centre above Blaenau Ffestiniog and around Tanygrisiau along with a network of other biking routes to suit all tastes. In 1776, Lord George Lytton toured through Wales, when he arrived at Ffestiniog he wrote; “Nothing remarkable occurred in our ride, until we came to Ffestiniog, the Vale before which is the most perfectly beautiful of all we had seen …. with the woman one loves, with the friend of one's heart, and a good study of books, one might pass an age there, and think it but a day. If you have a mind to live long and renew your youth, come and settle in Ffestiniog”.
