Right up the street from the local hangout, you can walk 2-3 minutes and be on the beach or 2-3 minutes the other direction to the grocery store. It is a “no frills” house as most of them are on Vieques but the bed is comfy and the shower is hot. There is a pig on the property which normally wouldn’t bother me at all as me and my wife are both animal lovers but the pig was pregnant which made her a little ornery so we just kept our distance. I do wish we had been able to leave the doors open to let the wind flow through the house but the pig kept coming inside so we had to keep them closed. All things considered we had a great time and would definitely stay here again.

We loved staying here. It was airy with windows and screen doors. We didnt even need the ac which is in the bedroom. It is nothing fancy but just what we wanted, an affordable place by the ocean. We loved how unique it was and the hammock inside. We just ADORED babi the domesticated wild boar-he is fenced in the back yard completely separate from our area. It is just a block or less from the ocean and restaurants but still felt private with a private fence. There is an outdoor shower to rinse off and water hot for the indoor shower. We loved sitting outside in the evening at the patio table. Bruno, the groundskeeper was wonderful and showed us everything we needed to know. We had a nice conversation and then he left so we had the place to ourselves the rest of the time. We would definitely go back. A great start to our trip.

My husband and I love coming to Vieques. This is our third trip and the first trip.since hurricane Maria. We had terrible success finding any news on Vieques and came anyway not really sure of what we would find. Power was turned back on 2 weeks prior to our arrival and we were delighted to see that the Malacon has been restored This little beach house is just steps away from the Malacon. It's great to go have an after dinner coca tail on the Malacon, dance, sing Karaoke, watch the sunset and walk home This place is simple. The kitchen is tiny but is quite functional. The vibe of the house reminds me.of our family beach house that we built together when I was a kid. It has all the things a person needs and nothing more. You have a shower that could be hot or cold, there is an outdoor shower, the gas stove and oven work, there are little things to cook with and if you need more Bruno ( the caretaker/owner) will help. We have had wonderfulmdinners here. A cooler was provided so we have something to carry Sangria, beer and lunch as we trek around the island hiking and swimming. Yes it needs little repairs here and there yes it's very simple. There is a washer and a clothes line to dry your clothes If that's not for you then you should stay elsewhere BUT if you want to relax, read a book, nap on a hammock, rest your mind body and spirit, spend the day on a nearby beach...this is it Dont wildly complain about the little things because that is not what this place if for. We have officially fallen in love with this little spot. It's just perfect for us

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly: Vieques is a delight and beaches are marvelous. The Bad: The evening I arrived I noticed water on the bathroom floor. Bruno, the caretaker, said the toilet was leaking at the floor seal and he would repair it but this was never done. When Bruno drove me to the fruit and vegetable stand on my second day he spouted a diatribe of hate against Canada and US including all Northern American women using a stream of profanity. I decided to stay out of his way for the duration of my visit. His language was inappropriate to say the least. We all have gone through hard times but those times don’t give us a right to be angry and nasty to strangers. 2. The first morning I found old coffee and grounds left in the coffee pot from the last renter. Under the sink was dirty so I took the pots and pans out, washed them and set them on the stove. Water was leaking under the sink and I told Bruno about it 3 times but nothing was done. His excuse was that he had a new sink but hadn’t had time to put it in. The oven was very dirty so I didn't want to use it. The rugs were very dirty and I had to wash two of them. The front door would stick so I could not open it. This happened while Bruno was out and I was locked out. His excuse was he had ordered a new one but they sent the wrong size. I had to call him three times to fix the door. When I went to use a coffee cup there was lipstick on it. Clearly, it had not been washed. The internet stopped working and when I called, Bruno just said his did and he couldn’t understand why mine did not. I told him to unplug it then plug it back in. The next morning I called him to find out what was going on, he told me that he thought the problem was our carrier (i.e. verizon, sprint) had blocked the internet signal. This, of course, is absurd so I told him it was his internet provider and he was the landlord and needed to fix the problem. I then called Nancy, the owner, and she talked to the internet provider and resolved the problem. When I told her about the other problems she also had excuses. The Ugly: The live-in roaches were the last straw and that’s when I decided to cut my month long visit short. When I told Nancy about the roaches she commented that traps would help, although, she didn't offer any traps. I killed 3 roaches but one still managed to be in bed with my granddaughter the night before we left. Vieques is great but you might want to stay somewhere else! $2500 is a lot to pay for a month of what I got.

This Orchid Lane house was a stone's throw away from the Caribbean. We often got up early and walked to the Malecon with our cup of coffee to watch the sunrise from the dock. The bed was the most comfortable I have experieinced in a rental situation. The kitchen has very little counter space so it is difficult to do your own cooking. The yard was pleasant with lots of plant life, it made you feel private from the street. Lots of roosters crowing at all hours of the night and day and town sounds but this is to be expected if you stay in town. All in all this was a good fit for us.

Nothing extravagant, but very comfortable and close to the Malecon/waterfront with restaurants and bars and THE BEACH. The owners were very responsive to emails and Bruno the caretaker was quirky but very helpful and a big proponent of healthy living and yoga - there is a studio on the property, as well as a friendly dog and a shy pig. You can rent the car that comes with the property for $35 extra per day (definitely have your own transportation - the cabs are a hassle). Perfect for a no-frills getaway.

Very comfortable first floor unit in a great location in Esperanza. You are 1/2 block walk to restaurants and Malecon at the waterfront. The kitchen has basic supplies for cooking, the sitting room has a comfortable chair with ottoman, and a futon/couch for lounging. The bedroom has a comfortable bed with lots of room for suitcases and place to hang up your clothes. Having airconditioning at night was wonderful. The owners, Nancy and Bruno are warm, welcoming and helpful when you need it. We were so grateful to have a washer since we had been traveling for quite a long time and needed some clean clothes. They have a very nice dog also, who is friendly and likes to play. We spent a lot of time in the yard which has table and chairs, lots of pretty plants and flowers, a very peaceful place. The bathroom is large with a great shower, ample hooks and all the towels you need. All in all, it was a great place to stay.

I read all the reviews and yes....owners are very nice folks... Location is great... Just never read that the fridge was in the bathroom and there is a saloon type door that separates the bathroom from the kitchen/ living area... This means there is NO bathroom door!!!..Maybe this isn't an issue for you,but this would have been a deal breaker for us... Also ...there is no TV... I know you may not think you need/want one on vacation... However, we found one on our last vacation helpful during the Marathon bombing from our hometown...

Already planning our return to Esperanza and to Orchid Lane! Bruno and Nancy were consistently gracious, intuitive and helpful. We had the luxury of staying for 6 nights so we really got to see the entire island. I can say with certainty that our vacation, as wonderful as it was, was made even better because we chose to stay on Orchid Lane. It's clear that Bruno and Nancy are well loved by the local community and this somehow seems to karmically transfer a bit to their downstairs guests! We felt very well-cared for and fully relaxed. Is there anything better on vacation?

It was our first time in Vieques and we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. The location is perfect. It’s just half a block from the Malecón and the bests restaurants in Esperanza. At the same time that distance leaves behind all the traffic and music noise that comes from there. The apartment had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Nancy and Bruno, the owners, were really kind to us. Bruno even offered to take us to the airport after our “público” ride cancelled on us. All in all, we would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy Vieques.
