Myself and 2 friends stayed at mahogany suites between March and May 2018. We would highly recommend mahogany suites and Lesroy (owner).
Prior to our arrival we had many questions as we were staying for 8 weeks. Lesroy was very quick to reply in all correspondence and answered each and every question fully. He gave us lots of information about the apartment and the surrounding area. He also gave us a discount due to the length of our stay.
On arrival, he picked us up from the airport, gave us a short tour of St. John’s and even took us to the supermarket to get some essential supplies because we didn’t have a car. He kept in close contact throughout our stay and was easily reachable by email or phone if we had any problems. When we did contact him (for example the gas canister had run out) he sent someone round to fix the problem very quickly. Lesroy made sure to visit the apartment often to ensure we were ok, give us information about local events and parties and even gave us lifts to places we wished to visit. We also had to extend our stay at short notice and Lesroy was more than happy to accommodate this. Overall he was extremely friendly and helpful and I can not recommend him enough.
We stayed in one of the second floor apartments (4 apartments on 2 floors). The apartment is very spacious with a large living, dining and kitchen area and 2 good sized bedrooms, one with ensuite and one with a bathroom right outside. The apartment is basic but has all the facilities you would need (oven, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, blender, fridge/ freezer, washing machine and dryer, TV with a wide range of channels, good WiFi, air conditioning in the living area and both bedrooms). There is a small seating area outside and room to park a car when we rented one for a week.
The apartment is about a 10 minute walk from Woods mall which has a 24 hour supermarket and other facilities such as a pharmacy. There is also a number of ATMs near by. Slightly further (about a 15-20 minute walk) is a very large supermarket called the Epicurean, which sells everything you could need. It is approximately a 25 minute walk into the centre of St. John’s where there are some restaurants and bars and also the west bus station which is where buses to the west and south regions of the island go from. The east bus station (covering the north and east parts of the island) is approx 15 minutes walk.
We stayed in St. John’s as we were completing a placement at mount St. John’s medical centre (approx 25 min walk). St. John’s has some nice restaurants and bars, and the redcliffe/ heritage quay shopping areas. However, the rest of the island (in particular the beaches) are much nicer areas to visit. Although there are buses, we would recommend either hiring a car for your stay or spending the extra money on taxis as the walk to the bus station and the long and hot bus journeys can be difficult!
Overall, we had a brilliant stay at mahogany suites and would recommend the property to anyone looking to stay in St. John’s.
