Tucked away at the back of our property, this newly built detached house with private terrace and garden has everything you need as a base to explore this beautiful area. In addition to your own retreat, you also have use of the swimming pool, May to October (or longer for the extremely keen - we opened it at the end of March this year!) The property is set on a quiet residential street right at the edge of the old village. The hillside location ensures a high degree of privacy along with spectacular views. The privacy is completed by an impressive sandstone rock-face along the north edge of the land, which also protects us from the Mistral wind when it pays us a visit. The Mazet is set in a sheltered area at the back of the property and is reached by a pathway alongside the house. The property is set on a quiet residential street right at the edge of the old village. You'll have your own terrace, garden area and patio furniture right outside the mazet. There is plenty of parking in front of the house, and the swimming pool offers more terrace space for that all-important sunbathing, as well as superb, uninterrupted views towards the nearby town of Uzes. --- Travelling to us from the UK --- There are three airports within easy driving distance: Nimes (Garons), 30 minutes, served by Ryanair from Luton and Liverpool Montpellier, 60 minutes, served DAILY by EasyJet from London Gatwick, or by Aer Lingus from Dublin. Marseille, 90 minutes, served by EasyJet from Bristol, London Gatwick, Glasgow and Manchester, by Ryanair from London Stansted and Edinburgh or by British Airways from London Heathrow. Montpellier is a great option if you need flexibility with your dates. --- The Local Area - What to Do? --- Uzes is our local town and is well known for being one of the best market towns in the south of France. On Saturday morning you will find the full market with produce, artisan goods, clothes, gifts, pottery and more, whereas on Wednesday morning there is a producers' market with seasonal and local produce being sold. Much of the town is pedestrianised, so park your car in one of the car parks on the outskirts, and then stroll around along the tree-lined streets and into the main square to experience the myriad of bistros, cafés, restaurants and shops. Being in the heart of the Languedoc, opportunities for wine-tasting abound. Each local cooperative and producer has their own outlet where you can taste anything you want before deciding. With everyday perfectly drinkable wine starting from €1.10 per litre (and dispensed by the equivalent of a petrol pump!) you will be spoiled for choice. Some great bottles are available from many of these coops for just a few euros. Just 5km the other side of Uzes is the fabulous Pont du Gard, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This impressive Roman aqueduct is a stunning example of what the Romans achieved - it is part of an aqueduct they built from Uzes (you can walk into the valley containing the source - the Fontaine d'Eure) all the way to Nimes. The city of NImes holds many attractions, one of the finest being the two-tiered Roman amphitheatre. Great for a historical tour, or time your visit to one of the international concerts given there. There are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities locally - you can hire bikes just down the road towards Uzes if needed. There are also plenty of opportunities to canoe along the Gardon river; the companies do a tremendous job - they provide everything you need (including waterproof barrels for your lunch, phones, cameras etc.), and then pick you up downstream and deliver you back to the car park - extremely civilised! There is a wonderful 8km stretch of river from Collias to a point just after the Pont du Gard which is spectacular - take a packed lunch and picnic or snooze on a river bank before diving in for a refreshing swim. Canoeing towards and under the Pont du Gard itself is a special moment. (Oh and talk to us before you go - discount available..!) If you can tell your stalactites from your stalagmites (or if you want to be able to!) there are some impressive caves up near Ales - La Grotte de la Cocaliere. Take a fleecy if you are prone to the cold however - some people feel it down underground even when it's scorching up above. Nougat is produced locally - there is a Nougaterie up near Allegre-les-Fumades where you can watch a video of it being made, sample the many varieties available and purchase your gifts for friends, if it ever makes it home. --- Other bits --- We are often around, but of course we have to go shopping and to the local restaurants too! You'll have our mobile numbers so we're always reachable, but if we're here, just grab us. At various times, we may have friends and family staying with us, but we've got plenty of shared space down by the pool so come and make full use of it! Rules? Not many! 1. Make yourselves at home! 2. Please - don't smoke inside the mazet. 3. Come and talk as soon as possible if there is anything we can do to help. 4. Have fun!More
