Distinguished by dramatic contrasts in scenery, the small island of Paxos, across from Corfu, is only 8km long and 4km wide and has remained surprisingly unspoilt. Occupying a stunning position on a headland outside Gaios, and with quite spectacular views, Villa Delphini overlooks a lovely serviced beach with excellent swimming, an ideal and safe location for young and old. Reached by a short walk along the Kaka Lagatha beach and up some steps, or directly from a road down from Fontana, Delphini is one of the best located properties available on the island, with lovely views of the mainland and azure sea. About the neighborhood

Paxos offers something for everyone. In spring, the colourful wild flowers and migrating birds make it a paradise for walkers, painters and photographers, while in high summer, the safe beaches and glorious weather attract more families. In autumn, when the temperatures are easing a little and the August crowds have gone, the walkers, painters and photographers return. It is the ideal holiday destination for anyone wanting simply to take time out of the rat race and relax yet at the same time offers a range of water-sports, excursions and even two international music festivals each year. Walk through the olive groves, hire a motor-scooter or quad and explore the little villages off the beaten track, hire a mountain bike and ride down the mule tracks, explore the churches, learn the Island's history, hire a boat and take a picnic lunch on a secluded beach or why not - simply do nothing. The choice is yours, enjoy your holiday.

Getting around

A car is a must and the young (at the moment minimum age raised to 25 years) might enjoy motorbikes for getting around.Bikes are also available for hire. Taxis are becoming more plentiful. Parking in the three main villages in the evening is problematical.

How to get there

Flights from various destinations to Corfu. Transfer from airport to port around 10 minutes. Daily Hydrofoil at around 14.00 from port in Corfu to Paxos, later Hydrofoil on Mondays and Tuesdays. Return Hydrofoil at 7.20 from Paxos to Corfu. Private water taxi for 8 pax available for late arrivals. Daily Car Ferries: Minoan, Superfast Ferries from Venice, Ancona, Bari to Igoumenitsa. Ferry from Igoumenitsa to Paxos at 10.30 every day except Saturday. Later ferry at 12.30 only mid- July and August. NB Ferries from Italy are almost always late. Car a must. Boat hire a pleasure and needed to explore all the tiny beaches around Paxos.
